I almost always offer an extra year (With a team option) and usually throw in more money later in the deal, even if it's just a couple 100k.
I dunno why that happens, but I bet there is some sort of code involved that makes the player feel that way. Another thing I do is look at my potential free agents before the season starts and offer the extensions then. It makes September a lot less hairraising, as all I have to do is sign minor league guys who might have gotten more service time and maybe the spare guy who rejected my overtures. I'm sure other guys have ideas they'll share... Last edited by Young Drachma : 09-29-2008 at 09:46 PM. |

Well for one guy I had to wait til tonight, because I was voiding his option. The other guy, I just decided to offer him and should have done it last night with the other guys I extended. Oh well, maybe I'll sign them in FA.

So, are folks excited for this off-season? Or is it ho-hum due to the lack of arms in the pool and everyone needing pitching to varying degrees? (Or so says the trade block...)
What's the pulse around here? |

73% and counting...
This is like the part where you're marching to dinner after a day in the field and you've got miles to go before you get there. Ok..not quite. But you get the idea. |

Im not gonna be too active, so I dont have much to say about Hartford, but im looking forward to seeing some moves that a few people are gonna make or try to make. NY and Compton come to mind first, just because of what they did last year. Ive already seen Chicago start to reload on pitching.... Im also very curious to see what happens in Columbus. To stay with the same team a year after winning the Classic and then finish at .500 the following year.. That was rough luck.... His talent is still there, just wondering what kinda moves Tuner is plotting this offseason. Last edited by muns : 09-29-2008 at 10:14 PM. |

I'm really excited to see what New York does to reload. Compton, too, as they're not far away. You're right about Columbus and really anyone in the RL. Hell, New Orleans went nuts last offseason.
Things are as tight as they can be and after your steamroller of a year, most of the teams from 2nd to last were relatively close in the standings. Should be an interesting year to see how the CL responds to the juggernaut of the South, too. |

I can hear the crickets...
But that said, it's a heck of a free agent class out there. I just started looking and man o' man, there are a bevy of guys out there. Wowsers. Should be interesting to see where the chips fall. |

I've definitely got some finagling to do.
I think I can definitely abort the death spiral my team's been in since I won the CL title, but how well I do after that depends on what moves I can make in the next two days. I'm eager for time to pass! |

I was thinkng about retired numbers. How do you want to handle that? A place in the Hall of Champions? Or do we want to create a Hall of Honor in the Trade Subforum (with a link from the main forum) to each team's championship banner/retired numbers?
Thoughts? |

Hrm. What if each team maintained its own retired numbers roster, like we do our Walls of Fame?

I was thinking them as one in the same. I thought I could make the process easier. But maybe I'm over complicating it. Carry on. It's probably fine as it is. Plus, easier to bump them when you feel the need. I was just thinking out loud.. |

The League HTML will be updated by the time you view this in the morning. It's about 2000 files away now and I'm finally going to bed (unrelated to this) so I just wanted to post in case I forgot tomorrow.
Here's the FOOL web site, in case you just wanted an easier hyperlink to remember: About the Front Office Baseball League — Front Office Offseason League The League HTML is on the left hand sidebar of that page. Or here: Front Office Offseason League Home |

For those with whom I have PMs out, I will be around tomorrow evening before the deadline. Normally I would go work out, but there seems to be a lot going on tomorrow, so I'll be around early on. So look for me, if you're interested in any Atlanta players/deals.

To be honest, I really don't know what I'm going to do just yet. I've got a couple of young OF's in Kelly and Weighell that I want to get into the lineup, but I already have 3 OF's in Belanger, Wagner, and Isla. I might go with a platoon-type approach, but I'm not sure yet. My SP's crapped the bed last season (sans Fritz) and I have to imagine that my pitching staff will be much better this season. |

i made a major trade, moving a 24 year old SP Manny Lopez for 28 year old 3B Aurthur Summers from Toronto. needed more offense on this team, it can't be all OF John Hunt. apparently pitching is on the want-list for many teams in this league, so maybe i should've held out for something more. i really need my prospects to start developing, i got 2 uber guys in AA that i need to fild holes (a catcher and OF...both named Jose Lopez).

I spent to my cap, as always. Not saying much, though. I am guessing everyone else did, too. Now who spent their cap five years from now? That's what I want to know.

How about this? Name the biggest total offer on your Pending Offers right now, no names, no years given.
Mine is $25.5 M.
