Nice to see Rice paying off at least one way. I hope that's not with a .250 average though.

Brooklyn and then Toronto and then...head to head with New York! Where's TimGuru when you need him?

Of course, Teach might blow by both of us and make that last series pretty meaningless.

Final 3 game series of the season.
Atlanta plays 3 @ New York
Napa Valley plays 3 @ Baltimore

Brooklyn is effectively eliminated as it is impossible for them to win based on the schedule.

Napa Valley will have W. Pennington (15-10 2.80 ERA) pitching vs I. Flores (13-9 3.01 ERA) for Baltimore.

Atlanta will have E. Duffy (15-9 2.80 ERA) pitching vs D. Simpson (11-11 3.07) of New York

R. Pacheco had a 9th inning solo homer for the Winemakers but it was not enough.

We take you live to the 9th inning of the New York vs Atlanta game. Bottom of the 9th inning and Atlanta is leading 8-6.

In to pitch for Atlanta is J. Martland. Their long time ace closer was left to walk during the off season for financial reasons.. will it come back to bite them now?

D. Walls pinch hits for New York to lead off the bottom of the 9th.. He fouls off several pitches but finally strikes out swinging for the first out of the inning.

Technically, Maertland has been closing for me for three seasons now.

I do miss Marnane, though.

Martland blew the last key game in the 1984 Classic.

Next up for New York is F. McConnell. He takes a called strike before hitting a ground ball through the hole at second.

New York sends Pantusa up to pinch hit next. He takes a pitch outside of the strikezone before hitting a flyball to short center. It is not deep enough to move McConnell any further then second base.

The tying run is at 1st now however with the winning run up at bat and only 1 out.

T. Andrews comes up to bat.. he works a 2-1 pitch before lining one through at second as well.. McConnel to third and Pantusa to second.. McConnell rounds the bag and is being waived home... He makes it easily with no throw attempted.

Atlanta now leads 8-7 with runners at first and second with 1 out.

R. Chavez up to bat now.. on the very first pitch he lines one between first and second base! Pantusa to Third and Andrews to second.. Pantusa is being sent home... The throw...

He is OUT!

That is the second out of the inning.. runners move up to second and third with 2 outs now

k. Cooper is walked on 5 pitches to load the bases with 2 outs.. That leaves the season in the hands of Albert Henry who is coming up to bat now.

Henry for the season hit .276 with 54 RBI

First two pitches are balls before the first strike called without an attempted swing.

The 2-1 pitch is also low before Henry sees a pitch that he likes well enough to swing at. He grounds it deep in the hole at Shortstop.. the SS can't get to it.. and it is into the outfield.

Andrews scores and we are all tied up here!
Chavez moves to third.. Cooper to second...

But Chavez is being sent home... he sprints down the line.....

and makes it without even a throw. New York wins the game 9-8!

And a commish note...

I am relieved that there was no 3 way tie to end the season.. I would have to figure out on the fly a round robin solution to that mess
