New York Youngster Juan Sierra gets 21 runs of support in a game that he shuts down Ann Arbor:

Tuesday, May 7th, 2019: Ann Arbor Draws Blanks Against Sierra
The Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines met their match today in New York hurler Juan Sierra. He kept them guessing the whole game and spun a 5-hit shutout.

"He just worked us over," the Ann Arbor skipper said. "He probably didn't even take a shower after the game. I don't think he even worked up a sweat. They could probably pitch him again tomorrow."

In the 21-0 victory Sierra whiffed 9 and gave up 3 walks.

Checking out his stats for the season, Sierra has racked up 3 wins and 2 losses in 9 starts, 2.98 ERA and struck out 58 batters in 60.1 innings.

May's CL pitcher of the month is a familiar name...

Saturday, June 1st, 2019: CL's #1 Starter is Quero
Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Emmett Quero still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in May. The 32-year-old starter for Montreal was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 6 wins and 1 loss with 61 strikeouts in his 8 starts, putting up a fine 2.28 ERA in 55.1 innings of work.

So far this year Quero has 11 wins and 2 losses and a 2.70 ERA.

The Continental League Hitter of the month...

Saturday, June 1st, 2019: CL Presents Batter of Month Trophy to Lockyer
Colin Lockyer is in the final year of his contract with Apex and today added a timely piece of hardware to his trophy case. Playing in 29 games in May the 28-year-old right fielder ripped Continental League pitchers for a .383 batting average, nabbing him the Batter of the Month award.

He also rang up 5 home runs, 21 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

If Lockyer keeps up this pace, he'll cost someone a lot of money.

This season Lockyer is batting .341 with 11 home runs. His totals include 38 RBIs and 41 runs scored.

The may Ranchero of the month... err I mean Republic League Rookie of the month is.....

not a Ranchero!

Saturday, June 1st, 2019: Red-Hot Rookie Rewarded in May
A boyish Carson Brunt emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Chico deserved the honor, batting .360 with 3 home runs and 18 RBI. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Brunt enjoy the limelight.

A look at his 2019 stats shows Brunt with a .308 average, 3 home runs, 27 RBIs and 22 runs scored. He has played in 57 games.

Gill wins the CL Rookie of the month for the second straight month...

Saturday, June 1st, 2019: Gill Wins Newcomer of the Month
Marc Gill was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 25-year-old left fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen May's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 29 games Gill batted .396 for Edmonton, slapping 40 hits in 101 at-bats with 4 home runs, drove in 16 runs and scored 20 times.

This season Gill is batting .342 with 66 hits and 7 home runs. He has scored 41 times and has 38 runs batted in.

According to OOTP Colon is the new best hitter in the league. He's really really good.

That Sierra kid is only 20 or something. He's going to be expensive.

June 1st, 2019 Stats Leaders:

Batting avg - J. Colon (HAR) .395
Home Runs - M. Harrington (MON) , J. Colon (HAR) 17
RBI - M. Harrington (MON), H. Romero (CHI) 58

Wins - E. Quero (MON) 11
Strikeouts - C. Valdez (BAL) 112
ERA - J. Catron (EDM) 2.14

I had to do a double take on the ERA leader.. that is a name I was not familiar with. Edmonton has a few young players making their mark this season.

We are at the halfway mark of the season roughly. If anyone has a player on their team that they would like to ask about or how they are doing this season, please name them now in this thread. I'll give a brief update on their stats while the All star game runs.

1B Newbury, since he made the All Star squad. I was just hoping for some decent play out of him, not all star level.

ok, kicking off the second half of the season. Looks like almost everyone in the league has some shot of playoffs still (albeit some teams have a very outside shot.)

June's CL Pitcher of the month once again goes to Montreal... but wait, a different pitcher this time!

Monday, July 1st, 2019: Hernández - CL's Best Starter
In June Montreal starter Arturo Hernández confused hitters all month long. Last month's Continental League Pitcher of the Month took home the trophy as he collected a 5-1 record in 6 starts.

The 31-year-old Hernández added 34 strikeouts in 42.1 innings and 8 walks to his season record and compiled a 2.34 ERA. Other clubs hit .225 against him.

Up to now Hernández has compiled an ERA of 3.00 with a 14-4 mark over 20 starts. He has 97 strikeouts in 135 innings and has held opponents to a .239 batting average.

The Ranchero of the month.. (Can he really be the Ranchero of the month when his teammate out performed him?)

With a third straight Continental League Rookie of the Month, Edmonton's Marc Gill is trying to be the first player to win both the Benny Myers award and the Hideaki Tanaka award in the same season.

Monday, July 1st, 2019: Gill Voted June's Best CL Rookie
Marc Gill is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Edmonton hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .407 average with 33 hits, 3 home runs and 16 RBIs.

This season Gill is swinging the bat at a .361 pace. He has hit 10 home runs and scored 57 times, while driving in 54. His on-base percentage is .445 and he has played in 82 games.

Edmonton's super-rookie has another big day...

Wednesday, July 10th, 2019: Gill Goes Deep 3 Times
Going... Going... Gone!
Marc Gill did it three times in the Edmonton-Montreal game at Edge Ballpark. Three home runs in one game -- but his team lost -- the Majestics outscored the Edge 7-5.

"Gosh, it's a shame we didn't win this game. I get my name in the record book, but we lose the game."

For the day the Edmonton left fielder went 3-4 against Montreal with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored in a brilliant display of power hitting.

"I was in a groove," he said, "and every pitch they tossed up there looked like a basketball." Commenting after the game to the press, the semi-elated Gill explained, "I tell you what, I was surprised because I didn't think the last ball had enough to get out. I thought it was just going to be a long out."

M. Gill flied out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off A. Escalante in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off A. Escalante in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off M. Hensley in the 8th.

In the 2019 season Gill has hit .369 with 13 home runs, 59 RBIs and scored 62 runs.

Certainly your team has a run in them. Too much talent to stay at .500 the rest of the way.
