The second no-hitter of 2023 comes from a pitcher with an 8.05 ERA for the season!!

Wednesday, June 7th, 2023: Silander King of the Hill, No-Hits Majestics
Boston's Erwin Silander was right on the mark today at Ballpark of Boston in a sensational no-hitter against the Montreal Majestics, shutting them down 3-0. He chalked up 3 strikeouts and gave up 3 walks in a game he could really brag about.
"You might say I was the best pitcher in the league today and you would be right."

Silander has offended some fans and sportswriters with confidence that sometimes borders on arrogance.

The Boston skipper told reporters in the postgame interview, "He tossed a masterpiece today and it ain't braggin' if you can back it up. Today he certainly did just that."

A reporter asked Silander if he thought the fans would appreciate his perceived greatness after this game. With a big grin on his face, he quickly quipped, "Listen, if you start worrying about the people in the stands, before too long you're up in the stands with them."

His record this year is 2-8 in 13 starts and Silander has a 8.05 ERA.

Interesting that Hernandez started the All Star game. Woulda thought Sierra would have gotten the nod.

Meh...not that that's bad, but we're talking a guy who took the league by storm for a bit. He's quickly earning a trip out of Hammersmith at this rate.

Alot of time a pitcher is overlooked because of being "tired" or "exhausted". So the game looks for the top rated rested starting pitcher.

Ouch, so much for Maldonado paying off. I hope his vs left is a lot better, because he's leading off there.

Hey, I'll take it. Haven't had a starting All Star starter on the mound since The Phantom. Did he sign with anyone? I need to go look...

Nope! I was hoping his good WBC outing would cause someone to take a flier on him, but no one did.

Thursday, June 29th, 2023: Castel Socks 300th HR
The crowd roared -- they knew they were seeing history -- and Guonçalo Castel was delighted, too -- the 32-year-old Hooligans third baseman was making history with his 300th career homer. The crowd buzzed and roared again when Castel stuck his head out of the dugout for a curtain call.

"Never, as a kid, did I ever think I'd hit even one," he told BNN after hitting No. 300 in a 4-3 victory over New York. Castel went 1-4 in the game, had 2 RBI and scored 1 run.

His lifetime stats show Castel has batted .255 and collected 1103 hits, 300 home runs and 814 RBIs.

Napa Valley's Lacenaire throws a 1-hitter:

Friday, June 30th, 2023: Lacenaire Tosses Shutout Against Apex
"It was just one of those games, when everything went right. I threw a lot of strikes," Ed Lacenaire said. "And the pitches they did get to hit, they didn't do anything with them."

The Napa Valley Winemakers pitcher really got it done in his 3-0 shutout victory over the Apex Assassins, shutting them down on 1 hit. Lacenaire issued 2 walks and had 4 strikeouts.

So far in 17 starts this season, Lacenaire has recorded 5 wins and sustained 5 losses. He has pitched 93.1 innings, yielded 89 hits, fanned 53 and has a 5.21 ERA.

Speaking of Hernandez, the June RL Pitcher of the month:

Saturday, July 1st, 2023: Hernández - RL's Pitcher of the Month
When Alfredo Hernández takes the hill, chances are good for a Hammersmith victory. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 5-0 mark and 2.18 ERA in 6 starts, tossed 45.1 innings, fanned 37 and held others clubs to a .256 average.

That's why the Hooligans star was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Republic League.

His record this season is 11-6 in 21 starts and Hernández has a 2.66 ERA.

Holy moly! Didn't expect that.

Gallegos can NOT keep pitching that good. I'll pray he does, though.

Anyone ever been chugging away at work and getting a song stuck in their head that just won't let go?

"Coward of the County" has been running through my head for an hour now. Great song...the first time or two through...

July's RL Pitcher of the month:

Tuesday, August 1st, 2023: Winged Lingerines Starter Named July's Premier Pitcher
Carlos Esquivel left little doubt in the minds of Republic League officials that he should be named July's Pitcher of the Month for his outstanding performance.

"I wasn't always confident at the start of a game," said Esquivel. "Sometimes it's hard to get into the flow -- the calls aren't going your way or you're trying to spot your pitches too much. You just have to relax and use what you've been taught all your life -- get back to basics -- good mechanics, control, location, keep the ball down."

The 27-year-old tossed 57.2 innings of quality baseball -- going 5-1 with a 2.34 ERA and 48 strikeouts.

In 28 starts this season, Esquivel has picked up 11 wins while suffering 7 losses. He has pitched 165 innings, allowed 184 hits, struck out 142 and posted a 4.69 ERA.

To this point in the season, Quero shows a 18-4 record, 28 starts, 199 innings, 218 strikeouts and a 2.53 ERA.
