I'm baffled as to how that group of mutts I call a pitching staff can be the best the RL has to offer. I'd trade 'em all for an Ite Beens or Joey Drinkall ;- )

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2035: Edge Chill Roy's Hot Streak
Tokyo shortstop Ryan Roy came into today's game against the Edmonton Edge on a hot streak. When it was over, the Edge did their job very well. They beat the Tokyo Cyclones 6-2 and cooled him off at the same time. Edmonton stopped Roy without a hit and his 20-game hitting streak came to an end.

The 31-year-old Roy only had a few words to say after the game, "I had a chance to do it and I came up short."

His manager commented, "What Ryan did was exciting and quite an achievement. It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 20 games in a row. I'm really proud of him. And I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play."

Roy is hitting .341 so far this season with 28 RBIs and 29 runs scored. He has 43 hits including 8 home runs, 7 walks and .385 OBP.

In the postgame interview Sánchez said, "I'm trying to keep the ball down and let guys put it in play. It worked for me today."

This season Sánchez has fanned 34 in 61 innings and collected a 6-3 record with a 4.57 ERA.

Sunday, May 13th, 2035: Hit Parade: Castello Gets Cycle
Edmonton's Javier Castello hit for the cycle today, but his club still went home with their heads hung low. The Edge were upended by the Baltimore Charm 14-9.
"It was a good game for me," Castello said. "I wish it could have been a good game for all of us."

The Edge catcher sparked the offense with a truly special performance, hitting a single, double, triple and home run to add his name to the record books. Still, it wasn't enough to stop Baltimore. Castello went 4-for-4 for the game with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI.

J. Castello singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI triple in the 4th, doubled in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off L. Martínez in the 8th.

This season Castello is batting .333 with 2 home runs. His totals include 13 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

Sunday, May 27th, 2035: Zavala Holds Harpooners Scoreless
The Harpooners manager was philosophical after his team was shut out by the Chico Rebels 1-0.

"It was just one of those games, shake it off and do better next time," he said.

Pablo Zavala blanked them on 1 hit with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts.

"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs. They were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Zavala said.

"I set them up pretty good, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."

So far in 11 starts this season, Zavala has recorded 6 wins and sustained 2 losses. He has pitched 73.2 innings, yielded 63 hits, fanned 50 and has a 2.93 ERA.

Napa Valley pitcher Júlio Flores blanked the Tokyo Cyclones 10-0, tossing a 2-hitter while issuing no walks and collecting 13 strikeouts.

After his sharp shutout performance, he said that he gives a lot of the credit to his batterymate. "Me and him are just locked in out there. He's so great at having a feel for hitters. I couldn't do what I'm doing without him."

Flores has started 12 times this year, pitched 78.2 innings, fanned 86 batters and walked 16. His current record is 4 wins and 5 losses with a 3.55 ERA.

Right now the Republic League looks tight as expected. The Village Idiot had Napa Valley fighting it out with the wrong B-name city though.

There is probably a greater difference in the leagues pitching vs hitting wise then there has been in a very long time if not ever.

At the all star break, the Republic League ERA is which is the highest it has been since 1999.

The Continental league on the other hand has a leaguewide ERA of 4.20 at the break.

The last time there was over 1 ERA difference between the leagues was 2012 and there has never been this large of a difference ever in FOOL history.

So that's how Bretherton got in the all star game. Heck, he had 8 wins, which is probably closer to the real reason.

Monday, June 25th, 2035: Hit #2000 for Hooligans Miranda
Hammersmith's Alfredo Miranda got the standing ovation -- but the Hartford Harpooners got the win.
It was a special day for him at Ballpark of Hammersmith. A day when Miranda notched hit #2000 of his career. The fans went wild when he did. Even the Harpooners fans applauded.

The Hooligans right fielder went 1-3 in a losing cause as Hartford spoiled the party with the 4-1 victory.
In the postgame interview, a downhearted Miranda told the media, "We lost -- It's not about individual accomplishments -- we lost."

When pressed further, he admitted his pride in reaching the 2000-hit mark, "A lot of great players never get there. I'm proud, but I would be happier if we had won."

In his career Miranda has compiled a .273 batting average and collected 2000 hits, 324 home runs and 1097 RBIs.

Wow leading the league at the all-star break, that's unexpected. I guess my team may have been better than I thought, maybe we won't need Chelanga after all. Although I have to say I didn't think he could pitch as well as he has this year, maybe it's because the CL teams hit with wet noodles or something.
