Ok, figuring out the magic numbers has become a little more involved with all of the 1/2 games.

More career numbers fun.

Lemieux's career ERA (2.57) is .2 better than both Quero (2.77) and Sierra (2.78).

Of course, that doesn't include the later years, as Alan noted.

Top two ERA guys since the restart? Reliever-super-freaks Josh Wright (2.41) and Mike Hensley (2.51) of course.

Friday, September 25th, 2037: Chico Shuts out Hooligans, Sánchez Winner
Chico hurler Armando Sánchez was at his best as he whitewashed the Hammersmith Hooligans 4-0 today.

"He just kept the ball down, did a good job, made his pitches," said the Hammersmith manager. "We didn't do a good job making adjustments, so we helped him out a little bit."

Sánchez fired a 2-hitter and totaled 1 strikeout and 1 walk in the shutout performance.

To date this season Sánchez is 17-4 with 30 starts and an ERA of 3.55 with 92 strikeouts in 207.2 innings.

Sunday, September 27th, 2037: Rancheros Blank Hartford, Ueda Winner
According to Naofumi Ueda of the Colorado Rancheros, "There are three important elements in pitching success: location, location, and location." He told his pitching philosophy to sportswriters in the postgame interview after his 6-0 victory over Hartford.

He blanked them on a 6-hitter, allowed no walks and had 11 strikeouts. "I really felt comfortable the whole game," Ueda said.

His manager echoed his comments, saying, "He hit his spots time and time again."

This year Ueda has compiled a 14-10 record with a 3.85 ERA.

Thursday, October 1st, 2037: Dawson Wins RL's Best Bat Award
Free agent-to-be Frank Dawson has inflated his asking price over the past 30 days by winning the Republic League Batter of the Month.

In September, the 30-year-old Chico first baseman hit .394 with 9 home runs and 28 RBIs.

If he keeps putting numbers like that up, he could be hauling in a big wad of cash at this time next year.

Dawson is presently hitting at a .356 pace with 45 home runs and 147 RBIs. He has played in 152 games and scored 128 times.

This has been a less-than-happy-expansion-day experience. I'm off to bed. Good luck to all who are still in it to win it!

Edmonton has a magic number of 11

Chico has a magic number of 3, for homefield advantage the magic number is 7

Hammersmith has a magic number of 6

Thursday, October 1st, 2037: Retter Fires Shutout in Apex Victory
The Boston Settlers struggled at the plate today against Assassins hurler Dermott Retter, who shackled them on 2 hits while hurling a complete game 5-0 shutout.

"What can you say? We didn't hit well," said the Settlers skipper in his postgame comments.

"Hopefully we shake this off and bounce back tomorrow."

Retter finished the game with 10 strikeouts and 1 walk in an excellent mound performance.

"He pitched real well," his manager said. "Dermott made pitches when he had to. He hit his spots and did a great job of mixing in his changeup and using his fastball effectively."

In 2037 Retter has compiled a 14-11 mark with a 3.01 ERA in 31 starts. In pitching 221 innings he has 143 strikeouts and 42 walks while limiting the opposition to a .232 batting average.

For those wondering, Thompson cooled off a bit and is hitting .390 now with 5 games left. .400 is not out of question but will be difficult.

With Edmonton's loss, Tokyo clinches homefield advantage despite not playing today. The Cyclones are the 2037 Continental League regular season champs.

Edmonton 89-71 (M# 3)
Boston 88-71 (1/2 GB)

Boston starts a 3 game series at home vs Newark today. Edmonton only has 2 games left on the road vs Napa Valley.

With only 1/2 game seperating them and both teams even in the loss column, this could go down to the wire!

Uh oh, one against an expansion team, the other against, possibly, Lemieux!

Oh, man, and that's exactly what happened.

This could be a tough one for Eric to pull out of.
