Sunday, August 1st, 2038: Watanabe Wins Newcomer of the Month
Eiichi Watanabe earned July's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Hammersmith third baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Watanabe hit .310 with 3 home runs, 14 RBIs and 22 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Watanabe is currently hitting at a .281 pace with 16 home runs and 64 RBIs.

The Apex shortstop stroked 14 hits as he compiled a .333 average with 1 home run and 4 RBIs.

Adams on the season is hitting .287 with 5 home runs. His stats include 27 RBIs and 29 runs scored.

Looks like Jaime Sanchez just needed a change in scenery! I hear he likes North Carolina better.

I would like to say that Juan Sierra is breaking my heart by the way. I have been watching him all season to see if he gets the final 2 wins needed. He is 0 for the season thus far though.

I forgot about that. I was hoping bz would stick him in the rotation and let him suck his way to 5 or so wins.

Thursday, August 5th, 2038: Lemieux Spins Shutout
How good was Renaud Lemieux today? Just ask the Apex Assassins, who were blanked 4-0. The Assassins could muster just 2 hits against the 34-year-old Napa Valley hurler. In a fine showing Lemieux had 5 strikeouts and walked 2.

In 27 starts this season Lemieux has fashioned a 15-5 record and a 2.77 ERA.

Wednesday, August 11th, 2038: Colorado's Chen Gets 2000th Hit
It was a great day for Hou Chen of the Colorado Rancheros -- but not a perfect day. He became the latest player to reach the 2000-hit mark, but his team lost the game. The 32-year-old left fielder got his hit in Colorado's 7-3 loss to Hartford.

"It was a very special game for me, but not a good one for the team," said Chen after the game. Commenting on his achievement to reporters, he told them, "2000 hits are a lot. It puts you in a very select group. You have to hit well over a lot of seasons to do this. It's a good feeling to have your name in the record books with the other guys who have reached this level."

He finished the day with 2 hits in 4 at-bats.

Chen is hitting the ball at a .324 clip over his career. In 1569 games he has delivered 2000 hits, 287 home runs with 1090 RBIs and scored 978 times.

Friday, August 13th, 2038: Betancourt Tosses Shutout Against Ann Arbor
It was not a good day at the plate for Winged Lingerines hitters. Most of them came up empty against Vicente Betancourt of the Hammersmith Hooligans. He held them to 5 hits and blanked Ann Arbor 17-0. Betancourt also chalked up 12 strikeouts and 1 walk in the game at Ballpark of Hammersmith.

This year Betancourt has a 7-11 record with a 4.10 ERA.

Friday, August 13th, 2038: Gonzáles Pitches Hartford to Shutout Win
Cristo Gonzáles spun his magic in a 1-0 shutout victory, allowing 2 hits while totaling 1 walk and 11 strikeouts.

The Hartford pitcher put quite a spell on Hyannis in a strong performance.

"I had a lot of good things working in this one," Gonzáles said. "I worked both sides of the plate. I was rarely behind in the count."

To this point in the season Gonzáles has 10 wins and 9 losses and a 4.15 ERA.

Lemieux becomes the 25th pitcher in FOOL history to get 250 wins!

Thursday, August 26th, 2038: Lemieux Tames Boston for #250
Winemakers ace Renaud Lemieux reeled in his 250th career victory by beating the Boston Settlers 7-1 at Ballpark of Napa Valley. In his historic win, he notched 7 strikeouts in 8 innings, yielded 1 run and 4 hits, while surrendering no walks.

"I tried to focus on each batter," said Lemieux after the game, "but as the game goes by, I couldn't help but think about the possibility. 250 is a big number. It's a pretty exclusive club and I'm honored to be a member."

Lemieux's career stats include a 250-106 record, 3258 innings, 2678 strikeouts, and a 2.59 ERA.

Wednesday, September 1st, 2038: Colorado Starter Named RL's Best Pitcher
When Naofumi Ueda took the hill in August, he was in charge. The Colorado starter never let the Republic League batters get a foothold against him. For his peerless performance, he came away with an impressive 5-1 record and the Pitcher of the Month award.

The talented Rancheros hurler made 6 starts, worked 47 innings, permitted 39 base hits, and struck out 36 while putting up a 3.06 ERA.

Checking out his stats for the season, Ueda has racked up 15 wins and 7 losses in 26 starts, 3.95 ERA and struck out 149 batters in 186.2 innings.

Wednesday, September 1st, 2038: RL Picks Rookie of the Month
Gaël Pichette is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In August the New York hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .327 average with 36 hits, 7 home runs and 21 RBIs.

During the current season Pichette is batting at a .303 clip with 27 home runs and 100 RBIs. He has played in 126 games and scored 71 times.

Wednesday, September 1st, 2038: August's Top Newcomer Picked by CL
John Hardwick put up eye-catching numbers in August to earn himself the Continental League Rookie of the Month Award.

The left fielder for the Tokyo Cyclones batted .267 with 1 home run, 6 RBIs and 5 runs scored as he proved he does deserve to play in the Continental League.

This season Hardwick has delivered 59 hits in 227 at-bats for a .260 average with 4 home runs. He is getting on base at a .309 clip and his totals also include 24 RBIs and 24 runs scored. This year Hardwick has played in 102 games.

Tuesday, September 28th, 2038: Chen Gets #300
It was a great day for Hou Chen, but not a good one for his Colorado Rancheros. The 32-year-old left fielder reached a personal milestone with his 300th career homer, but it wasn't enough to beat the Chico Rebels, who came away with a 7-3 victory. Chen finished the day with 1 hit, 2 RBI and 1 run scored.

"Well, I've conceded the fact that you can't will yourself to hit a home run," he said. "I tried hard for the last few days. It was getting to be embarrassing with the crowd standing up every time I came to the plate."

In his career Chen is hitting .323 with 2043 hits, 300 home runs, 1002 runs scored and 1139 RBIs.

Friday, October 1st, 2038: September's RL Top Pitcher is Hooligans Betancourt
Vicente Betancourt is the latest Republic League Pitcher of the Month award winner. The Hammersmith starter stood out on the hill time and again last month and finished September with a sparkling 6-0 record.

In 7 starts last month, he fanned 58, walked 14 in 54 innings and posted a 2.00 ERA. Betancourt held opposing teams to a .176 batting average when he was on the mound.

This season Betancourt has compiled a 14-12 record with a 3.69 ERA in 38 starts.

Friday, October 1st, 2038: Fonseca - CL's Pitcher of the Month
The Continental League hitters didn't have a chance in September when the Boston Settlers manager wrote "Fonseca" on the lineup card. Outing after outing, Jorge Fonseca held teams in check and usually got a win.

He excelled with a 4-0 mark and 1.22 ERA in 5 starts. The talented Settlers star pitched 37 innings, fanned 24 and held opposing teams to a .184 average.

For his superb mound work Fonseca was named the CL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

This season Fonseca has a 15-10 mark in 31 starts with a 2.97 ERA. He has given up 146 hits in 194 innings, struck out 127 and issued 84 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .213 batting average against him.

Friday, October 1st, 2038: Chen Crowned Batter of the Month in September
When guys like Colorado's Hou Chen win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive September, the longtime Republic League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 29 hits in 93 at-bats.

The veteran left fielder hit for a .312 batting average and collected 11 home runs, 35 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

To date Chen has chalked up a .301 average with 42 home runs, driven in 129 runs and scored 105 times.

Friday, October 1st, 2038: CL's #1 Batter Announced
A hot-hitting Dave Juteau punished CL pitchers in September, hitting .371 in 26 games while racking up 5 home runs, 15 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

With those numbers it came as no surprise that Tokyo's 31-year-old first baseman earned Continental League Batter of the Month honors.

So far this season Juteau is batting .330 with 34 home runs, 110 RBIs and 93 runs scored. He has 181 hits in 548 at-bats, 67 walks and a .430 OBP. Juteau has played in 152 games.

Friday, October 1st, 2038: Rookie of the Month Winner Announced
Gaël Pichette's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young New York first baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In September he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .352 with 7 doubles, no triples and 8 home runs. Pichette also scored 14 times and drove in 25 runs.

This year Pichette has socked 187 hits in 600 at-bats for a .312 average with 35 home runs. He is getting on base at a .351 pace and his totals also include 125 RBIs and 85 runs scored.

Friday, October 1st, 2038: CL Picks Rookie of the Month
He's only in his debut season, but Jeremy Aitken performed more like a veteran on the hill for the Tokyo Cyclones and walked away with September's Continental League Rookie of the Month Award in the process.

Last month this young hurler recorded 3 wins and 1 loss in 5 starts. He threw 31 innings, giving up 6 walks, fanning 33 and compiling a 2.32 ERA.

In 30 starts this season, Aitken has picked up 15 wins while suffering 9 losses. He has pitched 209 innings, allowed 207 hits, struck out 155 and posted a 3.57 ERA.

I would much rather of lost it out right from day one, then be given the false hope of actually pulling it off with a sub-standard team! Stupid 5 game leads in Spetember!!

K....here it is...3 games head to head...if Edmonton wins all 3, then it is ON! if not, well there is always next year! (ok...there isn't a next year as I have fading players locked in long term...so it's now or 2045!)

Tuesday, October 5th, 2038: Juteau Hits for Cycle Against Baltimore
Dave Juteau produced one of the rarest feats in baseball today when he hit for the cycle against the Baltimore Charm in the Tokyo 10-9 win at Sony Park.

Afterward, Juteau acknowledged that his accomplishment was special, but he was more interested in helping the Cyclones just win some ballgames. At the postgame press conference, he said, "Maybe one day I'll look back on this day with more meaning, but right now I just want to come out tomorrow and put some good swings on the ball, get a few hits and help my club win another game."

On his historic day, he went 4-6 with 4 runs batted in and 3 runs scored -- and also got a spot in the league record books. Maybe one day way down the road he will get out the record book and reminisce about his extra special day in baseball.

D. Juteau hit a three-run home run off J. Rangel in the 1st, tripled in the 3rd, grounded out in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, singled in the 8th, flied out in the 9th and walked in the 12th.

Juteau is swinging at a .330 pace on the year with 36 home runs, 115 RBIs and 99 runs scored. He has played in 157 games.
