Sunday, July 1st, 2040: Davies Earns CL's Best Pitcher Honor
Kent Davies certainly found a groove in June. The Baltimore starter posted 4 wins last month to easily claim the Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

During the month Davies was 4-0 with a 2.66 ERA. He made 6 starts, tossed 40.2 innings and had 47 strikeouts.

In 20 starts this year Davies has fashioned a 8-7 record and a 4.70 ERA.

Whether Cristo Gonzáles stays in Hartford beyond this season remains to be seen, but while he's here he's making the most of it. In June the 29-year-old certainly pulled out all the stops by winning the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

He put up some fancy numbers with a 4-0 record and and an ERA of 1.78. In 35.1 innings he struck out 21, surrendered 35 hits, 15 walks and proved to be a solid performer in 5 starts last month.

In 2040 Gonzáles has compiled a 8-4 mark with a 3.59 ERA in 15 starts. In pitching 92.2 innings he has 58 strikeouts and 33 walks while limiting the opposition to a .261 batting average.

Damn you, Gonzales. I'll make you pay for breaking my POM streak. One day, I'll sign you and assign you to Single A for the rest of your career.

Sunday, July 1st, 2040: Torrid June Gets Burrow CL #1 Batter Trophy
Today Newark's Gerard Burrow was named Continental League Batter of the Month for June. He slammed opposing pitching hard all month long, bashing out 43 hits in 105 at-bats.

With a .410 batting average, 5 home runs, 34 RBIs and 23 runs scored, he was a solid choice.

In 2040 Burrow has put up a .346 batting average with 100 hits, 11 home runs and 73 RBIs.

Sunday, July 1st, 2040: Chávez Voted June's Best RL Rookie
Roberto Chávez is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Hammersmith hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .271 average with 26 hits, 7 home runs and 21 RBIs.

This season Chávez is hitting at a .291 pace with 19 home runs, 59 RBIs and has scored 54 times.

Sunday, July 1st, 2040: Newcomer of the Month Picked
In June, budding star Curt Murphy had quite a month as he smashed up the Continental League and stashed away the Rookie of the Month award in his trophy case.

During the month he hit .311 with 9 doubles, 2 triples and 3 home runs. Murphy also scored 9 times and drove in 21 runs.

In his stats this season, Murphy has posted a batting average of .268 with 80 hits in 299 at-bats, 15 home runs and 47 RBIs. He has also scored 36 runs, walked 18 times and compiled a .338 OBP.

What a fun season so far. All kinds of neat stories thus far. I think most expected Newark to be in contention, but how about Hyannis in third place right now ahead of both Hammersmith and Chico?

All right, it's time for the team to turn it on. We should be better than mediocre.

Sunday, July 1st, 2040: Aitken Guns Downs 16 Assassins
It was a 16-K day for Tokyo pitcher Jeremy Aitken at Sony Park today. He really put on a show in beating the Apex Assassins 13-4. Aitken has his good stuff and good location and that was good enough to chalk up a Cyclones victory. He gave up 7 hits in the game and issued no walks in a strong performance.

Aitken has made 20 starts so far this year and put up a 8-5 won-lost record with a 3.79 ERA. In 142.2 innings he has allowed 145 hits, walked 23 and struck out 167.

LaRocque, catcher for Ann Arbor is the top hitter voted into the all star game from the Republic League this year. A lifetime .256 hitter with only 82 career home runs before this season already has 28 HR and an OPS over 1.000 thus far!

Ok, well obviously I can't post the all star game box score for some reason.

Anyways this year's game is hosted by Edmonton and the CL wins 7-1

Wednesday, August 1st, 2040: Hooligans Starter Named July's Premier Pitcher
The Hammersmith Hooligans owe Vicente Betancourt a lot for his performance this past month. One of the league's most dominant starters in July, Betancourt tore up the opposition with a fine 4-0 mark on his way to the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

"When you're pitching this well," analyzed Betancourt, "it's a lot easier to come to the park. I don't judge my performance by the stats, I judge it -- the team judges it -- by the score of the game. I could say I'm tossing electric stuff right now and that would go over big. But if I toss that same stuff -- exact same pitch selection and location -- and they bang me around tomorrow, I was awful. That's the way baseball is."

It was Betancourt who did the banging in July as he tossed up 45 strikeouts in 48 innings, holding opponents to a .269 average and posting a 3.19 ERA.

So far this year Betancourt has made 25 starts, tossed 173.2 innings, struck out 167 batters and walked 37. His record is 12-5 with a 3.83 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .269 batting average.

Wednesday, August 1st, 2040: CL's Best Starter is Davies
Kent Davies really strutted his stuff in July with 4 wins and 1 loss and walked off with the Pitcher of the Month Award in the Continental League. The Baltimore starter was good news for his club, but bad news for the opposition.

In 32.2 innings of work, Davies limited opposing batters to 19 base hits and a .170 batting average. He totaled 39 strikeouts, issued 10 walks and had a 1.38 ERA.

This year Davies has compiled a 12-8 record with a 3.96 ERA in 25 starts.

Wednesday, August 1st, 2040: Fa-tang Le is July's #1 Hitter in RL
Fa-tang Le earned July's Batter of the Month honors in the Republic League by reeling off a .342 average, going 26 for 76 with 8 home runs, 22 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

The soon-to-be free agent was hitting with great urgency in an effort to bolster his asking price in the Chico clubhouse and around the rest of the league.

To date this season Le is hitting .262 with 23 home runs.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 33-year-old Juteau told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I may not take the field and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 26 games, Juteau hit .341 with 5 home runs, 15 RBIs and scored 14 runs.

This season Juteau has hit 20 home runs and posted a .294 batting average.

Sunday, August 5th, 2040: Homer #300 for Tokyo's Juteau
It was a great day for Dave Juteau, but not a good one for his Tokyo Cyclones. The 33-year-old first baseman reached a personal milestone with his 300th career homer, but it wasn't enough to beat the Baltimore Charm, who came away with a 12-3 victory. Juteau finished the day with 2 hits, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.

"Well, I've conceded the fact that you can't will yourself to hit a home run," he said. "I tried hard for the last few days. It was getting to be embarrassing with the crowd standing up every time I came to the plate."

In his career Juteau has played in 1554 games with a .310 batting average. Among his 1732 hits are 349 doubles, 21 triples and 301 home runs. He also has scored 952 runs and driven in 1003 runs.

That's more like it. Hopefully it's a trend up and not a blip, whereupon at the end of which my team fades back into oblivion.

Wednesday, August 8th, 2040: Number 2000 for Prebble
Brian Prebble started out as a baby-faced rookie many seasons ago. Yesterday at Edge Ballpark the Edmonton veteran joined the league's 2000-hit club. Prebble achieved that milestone with a 3-for-5 day in the Edge 5-2 win over the Boston Settlers.

He spoke to reporters in the clubhouse after the game and said, "Looking at the list of all the great players who have done this is humbling. It is a great honor to be among them."

Prebble's career batting average stands at .296, and he has 286 home runs.

Saturday, September 1st, 2040: Great Month Gets RL Top Rookie Trophy
With August's Republic League Rookie of the Month title slung over his shoulder, Jaime García has no reason to be modest about his statistical output. But he was, telling BNN reporters, "I just put the bat on the ball a lot and a lot of them fell in. It was just my month to shine."

The 23-year-old blistered the baseball last month as he posted a .348 batting average, 24 hits, 9 home runs, 18 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

This season García has 20 home runs and a .283 batting average.

Saturday, September 1st, 2040: Cannon Wins Rookie of the Month
A boyish Joe Cannon emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Apex deserved the honor, batting .263 with 7 home runs and 16 runs batted in. Is the month of August a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Cannon enjoy the limelight.

In 2040 Cannon is hitting .282, batted in 90 runs with 31 home runs and 98 runs scored.
