Friday, July 25th, 2042: Hartford Whitewashes Hyannis, Larson Winner
The Patriots manager was philosophical after his team was shut out by the Hartford Harpooners 4-0.

"It was just one of those games, shake it off and do better next time," he said.

Mike Larson blanked them on 4 hits with no walks and 10 strikeouts.

"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs. They were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Larson said.

"I set them up pretty good, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."

On his 2042 stats sheet Larson shows a 9-9 record, 20 starts, 122 innings, 113 strikeouts and a 3.91 ERA.

Friday, August 1st, 2042: RL Top Pitcher for July Picked
When Gijsbert van der Star takes the hill, there's a good chance for a Colorado victory. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 4-1 mark and a 2.80 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 35.1 innings, fanned 26, and held enemy hitters to a .263 average.

That's why the Rancheros star was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Republic League.

So far this year van der Star has compiled a 11-5 record with a 4.19 ERA.

Friday, August 1st, 2042: Tokyo Starter Named CL's Best Pitcher
Jeremy Aitken hated to see July turn to August.
And who could blame him?
The 25-year-old hurler piled up 3 wins and no losses for the Cyclones last month and won the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award for his efforts.

Aitken stymied opposing batters on 22 base hits and a .159 batting average. He rang up 43 strikeouts in 39.2 innings of work, surrendered 8 walks and fashioned a sparkling 1.59 ERA.

In 24 starts this season Aitken has notched a 10-6 record and a 3.09 ERA.

Monday, August 4th, 2042: Santos Reaches 2500
Ramón Santos started out as a baby-faced rookie many seasons ago. Yesterday at Edge Ballpark the Edmonton veteran joined the league's 2500-hit club. Santos achieved that milestone with a 1-for-3 day in the Edge 2-1 win over the Baltimore Charm.

He spoke to reporters in the clubhouse after the game and said, "Looking at the list of all the great players who have done this is humbling. It is a great honor to be among them."

In his 2050-game career, Santos has hit at a .309 clip and collected 2500 hits with 457 doubles, 55 triples, 306 homers and 1318 RBIs.

Saturday, August 9th, 2042: Winged Lingerines Chao Tames Hartford
In an excellent mound performance, Chua chay Chao of the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines whitewashed the Hartford Harpooners 8-0 on a 1-hitter.

He said after the game, "I had my best stuff and did a good job of mixing up my pitches."

The Hartford manager said, "We just didn't swing the bats well today. Chao did a good job keeping us guessing."

In all, the Ann Arbor hurler rang up 7 strikeouts and 5 walks in the shutout win.

This season Chao has crafted a 14-8 mark with a 4.15 ERA in 197.1 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .270 against him and he has 175 strikeouts.

Monday, September 1st, 2042: Bullpen Ace RL Premier Pitcher in August
Raúl Rosa has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in August and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Rancheros bullpen ace collected 7 saves and 16 strikeouts in 10.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .200 average and posting a 2.53 ERA and a 3-0 record.

Rosa has collected 42 saves for the year with 53 strikeouts and 10 walks in 54 innings while registering a 2.50 ERA and a 3-2 won-lost record.

Monday, September 1st, 2042: Mireles - CL's Pitcher of the Month
Eduardo Mireles nailed down August's Continental League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on Napa Valley to get a deal done before the 33-year-old becomes a free agent.

Mireles seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 6-1 record, reeled off 24 strikeouts, worked 46.1 innings and held batters to a .243 average for the month as he posted a 3.11 ERA.

His record this season is 14-13 in 32 starts and Mireles has a 5.13 ERA.

Monday, September 1st, 2042: Moreno Wins CL Prize, Named Best Hitter in August
José Moreno is in the final year of his contract with Boston and today added a timely piece of hardware to his trophy case. Playing in 24 games in August the 31-year-old left fielder ripped Continental League pitchers for a .402 batting average, nabbing him the Batter of the Month award.

He also rang up 2 home runs, 19 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

If Moreno keeps up this pace, he'll cost someone a lot of money.

This season Moreno is batting .337 with 15 home runs.

Friday, September 5th, 2042: Moraes Swats 3 Homers
Fans from Boston are still buzzing after Boston whipped the Terriers 11-1 today at Ballpark of Boston. León Moraes smashed three home runs in the game. This is a feat that few players ever achieve and few fans ever see.

In a tremendous performance the first baseman bashed out 4 hits in 4 at-bats, had 6 RBIs and scored 3 times.

At the postgame press conference, he was asked what it felt like to hit three home runs in one game. Moraes answered, "To get one homer is special... two is great... three is just unbelievable!"

L. Moraes hit a three-run home run off A. Ramos in the 1st, singled in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off W. Zhou in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off J. Castaneda in the 7th.

This year Moraes is batting .269 with 13 home runs and 72 RBIs.

Well, but if you assume your Pyth adjustment, you would have to allow me mine, too, wouldn't you? In which case, you would be down about 7 games.

Tuesday, September 9th, 2042: Muñóz Makes 300 HR Mark
The Tokyo Cyclones defeated the Apex Assassins 7-4 yesterday in a game that featured José Muñóz's 300th career home run.

In the clubhouse, the Cyclones left fielder spoke about the milestone achievement. "To be honest, I don't even remember my first home run," he said. "But this one I don't think I'll forget. Who knows if I'll hit another hundred, or fifty, or even ten?"

On his historic day, Muñóz banged out 1 hit in 5 at-bats and scored 1 run with 1 run batted in.

Muñóz has batted .247 for his career with 1303 hits, 220 doubles, 23 triples and 300 home runs and 961 RBIs.

Yeah, I think that's where a majority of that pyth differential comes from. Look at your 1 run games record. Gotta be a factor.

Colorado's setup guy is 22-2 in save opportunities. (holds/saves versus blown opportunities)

Their closer is 44-3 in save opportunities

Only 5 blown saves between the two of them helps alot.

Looks like bringing Rivera back was the best decision I made this offseason.

I was going to say it seemed like a long time since we last had a no hitter, and it was--2039 by Oliver Hernandez (his game above inspired me to go look, coincidentally).

At least I thought it was a long time. Before Hernandez's achievement, the league apparently went through some offensive renaissance, and there was not a single no hitter for eight seasons! (two in 2031, Rangel and Blankenship, both future sucky Hooligans in training).

66 saves in 71 opps? 22 saves for the setup man? That's crazy.

That was saves and hold opportunities. about double what Hammersmith has. Hammersmith has been winning with bats, Colorado has had a ton more closer games, but their setup/closer have been lights out.
