RL Announces Best Pitcher for April
Tuesday, May 1st, 2018: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, José Colón still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 34-year-old starter for Las Vegas was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and no losses with 31 strikeouts in his 7 starts, putting up a fine 2.47 ERA in 43.2 innings of work.

Continental League Announces Best Starter
Tuesday, May 1st, 2018: Alberto Durán took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award for April.

The 24-year-old Terriers starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 4-0 won-lost record in 6 starts. This month he fanned 34 batters in 36.2 innings and compiled a 1.47 ERA.

Spring's Brownlee Top RL Batter in April
Tuesday, May 1st, 2018: When Jason Brownlee stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

The young Spring third baseman posted a .404 batting average with no home runs, 26 RBIs and scored 25 runs. Brownlee also worked pitchers for 16 walks to post a .470 on-base percentage.

Tong Picks Up Best CL Batter Honors for April
Tuesday, May 1st, 2018: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 29-year-old Luo-han Tong put together a solid offensive month for Chicago and was crowned April's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .374 with 7 home runs, 24 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Tuesday, May 1st, 2018: Eduardo Fernández's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Portland right fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .282 with 8 doubles, 1 triple and 3 home runs. Fernández also scored 14 times and drove in 17 runs.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Tuesday, May 1st, 2018: Don George is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In April the Havana hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .291 average with 25 hits, 6 home runs and 18 RBIs.

Funny that you describe it as freedom.. Since my wife, mother, mother-in-law all are involved in schools, I personally am looking forward to when the kids (and all of them) go back!

Unfortunately I still have a few weeks though!

Najub Strokes 6 Hits
Wednesday, May 2nd, 2018: Next time the Pirates might think twice about pitching to Gula Najub. Today at The Tickle Trunk the Balzac center fielder really burned Plantana pitching, going 6-for-7 in the Ticklers 9-8 triumph.

"When he's seeing the ball well," his skipper told reporters, "he can probably stroke a base hit blindfolded."

Gula Najub singled in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off José Villarreal in the 2nd, grounded out in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Edward Holt in the 8th, doubled in the 11th and singled in the 13th.

This season Najub is swinging the bat at a .265 rate with 26 hits in 98 at-bats. To date he has hit 7 home runs, scored 18 runs and driven in 15.

Las Vegas catcher looks like he keeps up his hot hitting of spring training. Rocha hit 10 hrs in the spring, his previous high was 14 a season ago. Now he has 9 this year.

Morgan Sensational, 6-6
Wednesday, May 9th, 2018: Michael Morgan had an answer for everything the Portland Axemen threw him today in the Waikiki 29-5 triumph at Waikiki Beachpark. He made good contact 6 times and 6 times he drilled the ball for a base hit.

The Waikiki shortstop went 6 for 6 in the game to put his name in the record book.

Summing up his batting philosophy to BNN writers after the game, Morgan said, "I just see the ball and I hit it."

Michael Morgan singled in the 2nd, walked in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and singled in the 8th.

Morgan's current batting average stands at .281 and he has chalked up 2 home runs and 12 RBIs.

I think that's the consensus with parents everywhere. I'm not the type to sit around and do nothing so I even like going back too (not that summers have ever been full of sitting around doing nothing). I'm glad you'll at least gain your freedom while I'm losing mine...something positive should come out of this, right?

Wolverines Hurler Named RL's #1 Starter
Friday, June 1st, 2018: Chris Rogers's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 6-1 in May, the 27-year-old Ann Arbor hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 42 in 48.2 innings, logged an ERA of 2.22 and allowed opponents to hit .257 against him.

This year Rogers has compiled a 8-2 record with a 2.23 ERA.

Pitcher of the Month Named in CL
Friday, June 1st, 2018: When Jorge Jiménez takes the hill, chances are good for a Havana victory. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 4-0 mark and 1.73 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 36.1 innings, fanned 36 and held others clubs to a .195 average.

That's why the Banana Sluggers star was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Continental League.

To date this season Jiménez is 7-1 with 11 starts and an ERA of 3.21 with 68 strikeouts in 75.2 innings.

Román Captures RL Batter of Month Award
Friday, June 1st, 2018: To survive in the bigs, you've got to be a scrapper like Nelson Román. It never pays to take a day off from the batting cages or to shrug off the advice of the hitting coach. It all paid off today as Waikiki's left fielder pinned down the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy today.

He hit .316 in May collecting 13 home runs, 37 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

So far this season Román has gotten 73 hits in 231 at-bats for a .316 batting average with 16 home runs. His stats include 48 RBIs and 39 runs scored. He has played in 54 games.

May's Best CL Hitter is Rafael Vargas
Friday, June 1st, 2018: Rafael Vargas mauled enemy pitching all month long as he cruised to the Continental League Batter of the Month title.

Vargas batted .346 with 6 home runs, 30 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

Stafford faithful hope for an encore in June!

This season Vargas is batting .274 with 54 hits, 6 home runs, 46 RBIs, .377 OBP and has scored 30 runs.

I'm sure that this type of score -could- happen more often in the MLB but it doesn't. The times it does, everyone usually blasts the manager of the team that does it.

Just drives me crazy.

no! i have such high hopes for this season. with that said, i'll probably have one of my worst years yet.

usually when i make a good playoff run, i'm feeling a little worried for my team. this year i feel like i've put together a good squad, so we'll surely lose 90 or more games!

Rookie Wiz Gets May Award in RL
Friday, June 1st, 2018: Youngster Michael Morgan emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Waikiki deserved the honor, batting .337 with 1 home run and 11 runs batted in. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Morgan enjoy the limelight.

This year Morgan has socked 55 hits in 191 at-bats for a .288 average with 3 home runs. He is getting on base at a .382 pace and his totals also include 18 RBIs and 29 runs scored.

Top CL Rookie of the Month Named

Friday, June 1st, 2018: Jin Yamashita was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 25-year-old first baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen May's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 27 games Yamashita batted .330 for St Louis, slapping 35 hits in 106 at-bats with 1 home run, drove in 13 runs and scored 12 times.

This season Yamashita is batting .302 with 3 home runs.

I'm not saying I won't give you a run for your money if I don't get the chance, but I have very little confidence in my team this year and you guys are doing well.

Just drives me crazy.

Agreed! OOTP is a big fan of extending the torture to a really cruel level.

Well, quite the awful May there drops the Sluggers back to the nether regions of the standings. I hope this is a temporary malaise and we will jump back up quick.

That said, I went into this season with a lot more doubts about the quality of the backend of my rotation, the depth and quality of the pen and the depth of the lineup. Plus, Takahashi has been taking hits to his ratings.

It wouldn't surprise me to have a poor season as a result, even though I still have most of the same good hitters I had before.

Well, however the rest of my team is doing, I can't complain about Jimenez.

3000th Hit for Losoya
Friday, June 29th, 2018: It was a great day for Felipe Losoya of the Spring Lions -- but not a perfect day. He became the latest player to reach the 3000-hit mark, but his team lost the game. The 39-year-old left fielder got his hit in Spring's 9-4 loss to Las Vegas.

"It was a very special game for me, but not a good one for the team," said Losoya after the game. Commenting on his achievement to reporters, he told them, "3000 hits are a lot. It puts you in a very select group. You have to hit well over a lot of seasons to do this. It's a good feeling to have your name in the record books with the other guys who have reached this level."

He finished the day with 1 hit in 5 at-bats.

Lifetime Losoya has compiled a .286 batting average and collected 3000 hits, 335 home runs and 1468 RBIs.

This morning, I made breakfast for my wife and I. I scrambled some eggs and served toast with malaise spread on top of it.

Sánchez Collects RL Pitching Award
Sunday, July 1st, 2018: Pedro Sánchez hated to see June turn to July.
And who could blame him?
The 26-year-old hurler piled up 5 wins and no losses for the Rattlers last month and won the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award for his efforts.

Sánchez stymied opposing batters on 32 base hits and a .239 batting average. He rang up 20 strikeouts in 38.2 innings of work, surrendered 16 walks and fashioned a sparkling 1.40 ERA.

This year Sánchez has fashioned a 8-4 mark, 3.21 ERA and pitched 103.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .249 against him and he has logged 61 strikeouts.

CL's Premier Starter is Durán
Sunday, July 1st, 2018: In June, Alberto Durán tore through the Continental League like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 24 years old.

The young Stafford starter posted a 5-0 mark and an ERA of 2.18 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 41.1 innings he collected 34 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .164 average.

In 17 starts this season Durán has registered a 11-2 record and a 2.00 ERA.

Heh...thanks, although that wasn't even my favorite word in that paragraph. There should be special consideration for any proper use of the term "nether".

(I call it indentured servitude, but I think there is some other term for it)

Anyways, everyone may have noticed the sims starting a little later in the morning recently, its due to a small schedule change at home where I've been doing more in the morning now that she's busier.
