It must stink winning nearly 60% of your games and being 15 games out!

Yeah. I realized what you were referencing after I submitted the post. I almost edited out the question mark but figured I'd leave it alone.

Good catch on the song though! I seem to only remember the girl in the pool, not the music playing.

Speaking of Pools, my new pump should be coming via fedex today, so I get to spend this afternoon replacing the hose and pool filter/pump!

Somehow even that sounds dirty. Probably has something to do with the word "pump."

Barring a late surge, it looks like my comeuppance has arrived this season. Oh well...it was a good run. Hopefully I can retool the staff and come flying back next year.

It's far less funny when you have to explain the jokes. Unfortunately you're not telling jokes to the sharpest box of tacks here I fear!

Germán Picked as August's Pitcher of the Month
Saturday, September 1st, 2018: Mario Germán of the Las Vegas Wildcats is the Republic League Pitcher of the Month.
In August he sparkled and shined on the mound with 5 wins and 2 losses in 7 starts.

Germán checked opposing batters on 42 base hits and a .249 batting average. He rang up 32 strikeouts in 45 innings of work, surrendered 11 walks and fashioned a 2.00 ERA.

This year Germán has worked 172.1 innings with 132 strikeouts en route to a 12-8 record and 3.45 ERA.

Martínez Nabs CL #1 Pitcher Award

Saturday, September 1st, 2018: Bartolo Martínez nailed down August's Continental League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on Washington to get a deal done before the 32-year-old becomes a free agent.

Martínez seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 3-0 record, reeled off 34 strikeouts, worked 33.2 innings and held batters to a .165 average for the month as he posted a 0.53 ERA.

His record this year is 10-9 in 26 starts and Martínez has a 4.03 ERA.

Román Crowned Top RL Hitter in August
Saturday, September 1st, 2018: Nelson Román is in the final year of his contract with Waikiki and today added a timely piece of hardware to his trophy case. Playing in 28 games in August the 33-year-old left fielder ripped Republic League pitchers for a .368 batting average, nabbing him the Batter of the Month award.

He also rang up 10 home runs, 35 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

If Román keeps up this pace, he'll cost someone a lot of money.

So far this year Román is batting .331 with 42 home runs, 140 RBIs and 112 runs scored.

Zúńiga Takes CL's Best Bat Award
Saturday, September 1st, 2018: Ricardo Zúńiga relied on a .337 average to capture the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy. He had a good August, going 34 for 101.

He finished with 9 home runs and 29 RBIs, scored 19 runs and had a .434 on-base percentage.

Batting .288 to date, Zúńiga has 20 home runs and 82 RBIs.

O'Reardan Belts Bunch of Base Hits
Tuesday, September 4th, 2018: If just anyone could go out and hit a baseball, big dollar contracts wouldn't exist. But they can't, so the good hitters get the big bucks. Mark O'Reardan showed how it's done as he went 6 for 7 against the Portland Axemen and helped the Waikiki Beach Boys beat them 27-5.

The manager for the Axemen told the BNN sportswriters, "We made some bad pitches and he took advantage of it. That's the game of baseball. Don't make mistakes and you win a lot more ballgames."

If O'Reardan keeps hitting like this, he could be headed for a big pay raise.

Mark O'Reardan hit a two-run single in the 1st, hit a two-run double in the 2nd, flied out in the 4th, singled in the 6th, doubled in the 7th, singled in the 8th and hit a GRAND SLAM off Carlos Molina in the 8th.

A look at his current stats shows O'Reardan with a .286 average, 21 home runs, 95 RBIs and 100 runs scored. He has played in 139 games.

Terriers have short legs and run slowly.

True.

And we're only winning 10% of our games currently.

Waikiki has scored 1007 runs thus far this season. I'm pretty sure 950 of them have been vs Portland.

Hit Parade: Esparza Gets Cycle
Thursday, September 6th, 2018: "How sweet it is, when the good part of the bat makes contact with the baseball." That's how Miguel Esparza, the Washington second baseman, described what happened in today's 7-1 victory over the St Louis Hops -- hitting for the cycle. In baseball, a player hits for the cycle when he hits a single, a double, a triple and a home run in the same game, though not necessarily in that order. Collecting the hits in that exact order is known as a "natural cycle," something that almost never occurs.

"I heard that sound every time I hit the ball -- it really was a special game for me." It was a game good enough for him to make a little history. He bombed St Louis pitching for 4 hits in 5 at-bats and his name will now go into the record book. Esparza also racked up 1 run batted in and 2 runs scored in the game.

Miguel Esparza doubled in the 1st, tripled in the 3rd, grounded out in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off John Jordan in the 9th and singled in the 9th.

Esparza on the season is hitting .295 with 15 home runs. His stats include 78 RBIs and 85 runs scored.

I'm pretty sure that Cleveland clinched homefield advantage in the RLCS back in June.

Chicago has a magic number of 5

St. Cloud has a magic number of 11

Las Vegas has a magic number of 9

If the trend continues I definitely will.

Where'd you think that Chicago River came from anyways? My many years of cellar dwelling, of course!

LOL. Are you in Chicago, or just a fan of our fair city?

+2 for cellar dwelling (p.s. that puts you at exactly...0)

Nah.

I'm in a suburb of Phoenix.

Just been a fan of the White Sox since we never had baseball out here while I was growing up.

Chicago clinches a playoff spot!

St. Cloud has a magic number of 3

Only Washington is still alive in the CL playoff hunt.

Las Vegas has a magic number of 4

Spring and Waikiki are both still alive in the RL playoff hunt

Great morning here folks. Way to keep the rest of us entertained! I've got nothing on this fine morning. My team is tantalizingly sucky, and its gonna really hurt to lose around 70 games and completely miss the playoffs, I mean by like 6+ games prolly.
