Hey Jeebs,

Just saw that the kickoff time has been set for the Sept. 6th game. It's gonna be 9:15pm Central. WTF??? I wonder why so late. Gonna make the long drive back on Sunday suck.

Very odd. That's 8:15 Mountain, of course, but still odd...an hour later than the usual UTEP start times.

Most likely. I'm fairly certain the game is on one of the ESPN stations...

I just booked my flights for the game. Thought about driving, but with AA having $79 each way rates right now, that's cheaper than a tank of gas. I still have to figure out where I'm getting my game ticket, but I'm pretty sure that my sister (the VP of the DFW Chapter of the UTEP Alumni Association) has a hook-up in the athletic department.

You still planning on coming out, Greg?

Not sure, it all depends on work. It'll probably end up being a last minute decision, since I've been having to make a lot of spur of the moment trips the last few weeks with this set of business we are trying to close.

The Sun Bowl is awesome, you should come. I'll even treat you to a Shiner or two despite your allegiance to that ugly shade of orange.

And thanks, Vic...

In other UTEP - UT-Austin news, it looks like troubled stud recruit and native El Pasoan Andre Jones will be transferring out of Austin and back home to UTEP...

Andre Jones, suspended from Texas football team, will transfer to UTEP, source says - El Paso Times

Andre Jones, suspended from Texas football team, will transfer to UTEP, source says

Times staff report
Article Launched: 08/04/2008 04:14:27 PM MDT

Andre Jones (El Paso Times file photo)EL PASO - Andress High School graduate Andre Jones, who has been suspended from the University of Texas football team, plans to transfer to UTEP a source close to the situation told the El Paso Times on Monday afternoon.
Jones, who on June 26 pleaded guilty to robbery charges in Travis County, is a defensive tackle who is in his freshman year at Texas. He was suspended from the Longhorns football team before the 2007 season even began after he was arrested in connection with a July 2007 home invasion in Austin.

If Jones does transfer and does enroll at UTEP, he will have to sit out one year as per NCAA transfer rules. Thus, the earliest he would be eligible to play for the Miners would be the 2009 season.

Coming out of high school, Jones was one of the most highly-recruited defensive line prospects in the nation, and he competed in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Hooray for legal troubles! Hopefully he can get himself straightened out and give the Horns hell when we go to Austin in '09...

Dola-

And I do have a confirmed ticket to the game. My sis indeed has a hook-up (through the Alumni Association, not the Athletic dept like I thought), and I'm getting one of her tickets. Even if I didn't get a ticket I was still going to go just to soak up the atmosphere, though.

Just another month to go. I can't wait!

We had the 117th ranked defense in the nation last year. We got a new defensive coordinator in the off-season and switched to the 3-3-5, so we should be quite a bit better on that side of the ball. But nobody outside of El Paso seems to realize that yet.

And Buffalo should be a decent team. They have a good QB and a good RB, and apparently good corners. I can't fucking wait for the season to start. Just another 22 hours and 15 minutes!

Since moving here it's been Bills or Sabres on talk radio. Any kind of info I want on the Bulls I have to hunt down. They have a great head coach that has kicked this program up a notch. 2 players last season went into the NFL and they have a solid squad this season. Oh, and they took the MAC East last season.

I am actually pulling for UTEP for you Jeebs, just because I can't yet cheer for a team here except for the Sabres.

So I'm flying out to EP Friday morning, brining my sister and myself into town in time to have a Mexican lunch on Friday. That evening we'll be going to Cattleman's Steakhouse, home of the best steaks in the world. After dinner, we're going to hit Minerpalooza, and then probably hit Chico's tacos for some drunk food. Saturday morning will be L&J's for breakfast, probably another Mexican lunch before we start tailgating, and then after the post-game tailgating we'll probably do Whataburger and get taquitos with CHORIZO. Sunday...I don't know what we're doing for breakfast yet, but we have just enough time for one last Mexican lunch before we have to catch our flight home. Man, this is going to be the greatest trip ever...

So are any of the FOFC UT-Austin fans making the trip?

Looks like I'm not going to be able to make it out there. I don't get back to Austin until Saturday afternoon.
