Walk-on who played SF despite being 6'4. Nothing really to say about him except I think he did better than his ratings indicated.

The 32 point hero last year, and a big player in one of our other wins. Got more steals than his ratings suggested. Not a consistent player, but one capable of big games. I'll genuinely miss him.

How he failed his first semester, I'll never know. Was supposed to be our best inside shooter and a primary scoring option last year, but that never materialized, and he lost out to James Doiron this season. Disappointing two years for sure.

Last season, he was a depth player forced to give minutes to. This year, he seemed like a pretty all right player. Had the size to play everywhere on the frontcourt, which he did to some degree, though most of his minutes obviously came at SF.

We're actually not losing that much talent this year. Three backups and an overachieving starter - all of whom had no ability to pass the ball, and most of them couldn't handle it either. I suspect that's why we've had so many awful shooting games - no ball movement talent.

Thomas Carlisle was the recruit who burned us for Morgan State. Same three bottom teams recruitingwise as last year in Bethune-Cookman, Delaware State, and North Carolina A&T, just in a different order. But that doesn't necessarily mean anything - remember, last year's freshman of the year was a 2* player from Bethune-Cookman, which also was judged to have an awful class.

Thomas Valdovinos did indeed sign to prevent us from having to dive into the transfer dumpster.

First Impressions
Richard Montes looks like garbage. That 70 block rating? Try 59. And he's one of the worst rebounders on the roster. Remember Thomas Valdovinos's A free throw potential rating? Try C. And that 55 steal rating is actually 39. But he does comes in more polished than expected. Dwayne Ortega is raw, but he looks amazing. He's our first Blue potential player on the roster.

There's none of this bullshit about scheduling powerhouse teams this year in non-conference play. Every single non-conference opponent I could fit in is 10 prestige or lower. That was 13 games, so I imagine the AD still has some leftover decent games in the bank from last season. Most of these games I scheduled are for two years, too, so I have less to worry about next season with this stuff.

Oh, that reminds me...

All-Time Recruiting Stats
Delaware: 1
France: 1
Maryland: 1
New Jersey: 1
North Carolina: 1

For some strange reason, Tennessee is becoming our go-to state for 1* fallback guys.

With only two scholarships, we can afford to shoot for the moon. Our first two targets choose George Mason and Rider respectively.

Not a reliable shooter by any means last season, and his A/TO ratio was awful due to poor passing, which will continue to be an issue. That said, his perimeter defense keeps making great strides, and his accuracy should go up as well. The undisputed starter.

His exact role is still TBD. Had that stellar game last year, but stands a strong chance of being pushed out of the backup minutes by Thomas Valovinos. It's going to be a wait and see approach.

A walk-on that I vaguely recall contacting. Maybe I should have paid attention to him in training camp. Intriguing 3 point shooter, but athletically, he's far behind everyone else, and so will be a deep reserve.

The backup center for the second straight year. Because we're so weak in the paint, he should see a fair number of minutes, but it's a sign of how much we've elevated ourselves as a team that I no longer see him as a viable starting option.

They're a 1 prestige team, and while they have a pretty good sophomore guard in Art Gross (Orange/Yellow), the rest of this roster is pretty horrible. Great shotblocker at the 5, however, which could cause us problems.

What follows is some truly awful basketball. We shoot 37%; they shoot 27.3% in the first half, and it's enough to put us up 24-16 at the break, despite the Highlanders coming within 1 point at multiple stages in the first 20 minutes. Ronald England has 11 rebounds already. Dewayne Ortega is making an instant impact with 7 points, 5 rebounds.

And of course they start making everything and we miss. The refs start giving them 5000 million fuckign 3 point plays on fouls too, so we're soon 3 points behind.

I'm about to snap my fucking keyboard in half. We can't get back ahead and then Jeremie Agache fouls out with 7 minutes left. FINALLY we get back ahead, and then with 3:35 on the clock, Robert "Fatass" Renfroe drains the 3 to put us up by 5.

That gets pissed away by turnovers and FUCKING COCKSUCKING DICKFUCKER REFS FUCKING CALL FOULS ON MY GUYS AND NONE ON THOSE FUCKSTICKS! Ronald England fouls out AND OH LOOK ANOTHER GOD DAMNED FUCKING TURNOVER AND THEY NAIL A GOD DAMNED FUCKING 3 POINTER

More players foul out, Scott Blank after he tells the ref to suck his big hairy dick and gets T-ed up. Good for you, Scott.

So uh, we're a 3 prestige team, so uh, I guess that opening loss makes sense-ish. Believe it or not, NJIT actually won their second game as well. Bryant has an amazeballs 3 point senior guard, Brian Gonzalez, and they can drain the 3 ball overall. This 2 prestige team has the goods to beat us.

Scott Blank gets T'ed up again after telling the official where he can stick his foul call, so that's an early sit for him. Mainly what happens in this first half is turnovers and fouls, like you'd expect 2 really bad teams to do. We're up 26-21 when the whistle blows, but we all know that means squat.

Sure enough, we lose the lead. We do get it back, but I'm having shades of NJIT all over again.

Sure enough.. with a 1 point lead, they nail a 3 pointer and that's all she fucking wrote.

I can squeeze in one more game.

vs Central Arkansas 0-0
They have a promising, but raw German point guard, and a great shotblocker at the 5. Other than that though, it's an eh roster. I'm going to try starting Richard Montes at the 5 and Ronald England at the 4 to see what happens.

Ronald England scores 5, and Dewayne Ortega hits two 3 pointers to give us an early 10 point lead. They come marching right back, but we're still up by 5 at the half. Scott Blank misses his first two shots, by the way, and he's officially going to be relegated to the bench.

Then Dewayne Ortega just freaking explodes in the second half and we make our free throws down the stretch to stop up UCA's periodic rallies, and *finally* we break through with a win.

I think it's safe to say that the experiment worked, and we'll go with that for a while to see what happens. James Doiron just hasn't done a whole lot in his career so far, and Thomas Valdovinos keeps outplaying Scott Blank and winning all the minutes. I'm not entirely sold on starting the freshman yet, though, because of the issues that'd create when Dewayne Ortega needs a breather. We'll see, though.

This game would frustrate me.
How does it compare to EHM for button pushing. I'm getting bogged down by that game.
I really want a good game. Is this it?

Which EHM? There's a fair amount of clicking involved, especially during coached games, but it hasn't bothered me. Even coaching games, I can get through one in about 15-30 minutes, and that's with typing in the dynasty.

It's a good game, but yes, it's frustrating haha. I suspect a large part of the team's issues are my 0 in all coach ratings.

That win against Central Arkansas was our first non-conference win of my era, by the way. As for Longwood, despite their 0-3 start and 6 prestige, they've got a pretty good roster, and this will be a difficult game. I've gone ahead and moved Thomas Valdovinos to the starting SG role, and will use James Doiron as a backup hybrid forward.

Longwood forces a ton of turnovers, hit everything, and Richard Montes swiftly fouls twice, putting us down by 10.

We overcome that awful start to tie it up at 27 late in the first half, but then they score 5 unanswered points to take that lead into the locker room.

A 3 pointer to open the half and our struggles still, and they open it up on us. But then Dewayne Ortega again gets hot in the second half, and with 5:25 left in the game, we take the lead for the first time, 59-58, following a pair of Jeremie Agache free throws.

It's a flipping effect until Jeremie Agache hits a clutch shot, and they start to get cold, and Dewayne Ortega puts a bucket in to put us up by 3. Ronald England is whistled for an illegal screen, but they miss their first free throw and Richard Joplin grabs the rebound and draws the foul with 21 seconds left and the 3 point lead. I put in my all free throw lineup. Joplin surprisingly misses a free throw. Dennis Debouvines snags the offensive board but can't put it in. They get the ball back with 19 seconds left and a 4 point disadvantage.

The 3 point shot misses, Edward Yarber gets the rebound and puts away the ensuing free throws to get the win I didn't think we'd be able to!!!

Two straight wins, two straight Player of the Game awards for Dewayne Ortega, who is quickly showing why he's ranked the #2 pro prospect in the MEAC behind fellow freshman Tyree Downs of Howard. Scott Blank is #8, Jeremie Agache #19, and weirdly enough, Richard Montes at #24 and Thomas Valdovinos at #48, despite their Red/Yellow scoutings.

Hell of a game by Jeremie Agache there as well. Nice shooting by Scott Blank, but considering we do so much better with Valdovinos in the lineup, he's not getting back in the first five any time soon.

Averaging just under 50 points while giving up 73. They have some pretty good post defenders and a couple of shotblockers, but their perimeter defense is dreadful. Should be a close game though, since it's on the road.

We hit our first 3 shots, including a 3 pointer by Thomas Valdovinos, and they miss their first attempts, to make it 7-0 before they call a timeout. Even when we finally start missing and they start hitting, they're committing a lot of turnovers, and we're still up 18-10 with 7:10 left in the first half.

By halftime, we're cruising at 28-14, with Jeremie Agache almost single-handedly outscoring the Buccaneers by himself with 12 points.

And of course they narrow the gap to just 4 points with 6:52 left on the clock. Then 2 points, before Jeremie Agache and Richard Montes hit buckets to have our lead at 5 with 1:48 on the clock, and it's foul time for them.

Edward Yarber makes a completely unnecessary and stupid 3 point shot, and they get an opportunity on the other end. Miss, offensive board, miss, foul. They make 1.

Up by 4 with 1:05 left, and Richard Joplin draws the foul. He hits both, and grabs the rebound for another foul after Edward Yarber atones for his fuckup with a block of a 3 point shot. Another 2/2 from the charity stripe by Joplin, and it's now 8 points with 46 seconds left, and pretty much game over.

Ugly basketball night as both teams shoot well below 40%, but Jeremie Agache maintains his hot streak and balances out Dewayne Ortega's horrible game.

We have a winning record at any stage for the first time in my coaching career. Yes, I know, it's against fellow bottom-feeders, but I don't think we would have done this well the first year or last season had we gone the same route. And of course,it's still not clear if we'll improve at all (or even regress) in conference play.

Tell me a little about recruiting. Is it easy to use? Can you find players with ease? Ones that are interested in your program? Do you have to search through hundreds of players?
Im going off the NCAA football EA game. Is it easier then that game?

One of FBCB's strongest suits is how easy recruiting is to use. In fact, it's the easiest and most pleasurable of any text sim I've ever played. You can filter search results by * rating, Interest level, position, and region. You can also sort by a ton of different categories (I usually use Interest level, statistics, and awards as my primary sorts).

They have a pair of great inside shooters, and some pretty good defenders. This is going to be a real rough matchup, especially on the road. Wouldn't be surprised to see us blown out.

It's tied at the end of 10 minutes, but then Scott Blank is fouled on a 3 pointer he makes, and converts the free throw for the 4 point play. Although they get to within 2 points, we fight our way back to a 28-23 halftime lead.

And then our shooting turns to ice, and they get hot. Towards the end, we give ourselves a ghost of a chance, but it isn't enough, and we're back down to .500.

They have a couple really good 3 point shooters, but overall, this is a pretty janky looking roster - one that we should be able to beat, even given that its on the road.

Foul trouble and turnovers galore on our end counteract their horrible shooting, but at halftime, we're sitting with a 26-18 halftime lead. We saw what happened against Winston-Salem, however, so I'm hoping we don't think we've got this.

Sure enough... more turnovers, more fouls, our shooting goes down, theirs goes up, and suddenly we're just 1 point ahead. Then we're down by 3, with Dewayne Ortega and Jeremie Agache fouled out of the game, 1:37 left on the clock.

Their lead scorer fouls out and Thomas Valdovinos converts the bucket and FT for the 3 point play to tie it up with 1:33 remaining.

And of course they fucking hit a 3 pointer with 57 seconds left. We miss on the other end, and that's fucking it.

They had an incredible upset of Arkansas the first game of the season, but Grambling State's not as efficient as it could be in terms of offense, volume shooting aside. They're also terrible defensively, giving up 81.4 points a game against their 66.6 scored. Winnable, but I've a bad feeling here.

We can't buy a bucket against one of the worst defensive teams in the country, and Charles Albright drops 23 on us the first half, putting us down 21-29 at the break.

By clamping down even harder on Albright, we get to within 1, and then Thomas Valdosvinos goes out with injury. Just fucking great. We temporarily get the lead, but it's all Grambling State the rest of the way in the worst fucking display I've EVER seen from this team.

They're weirdly 0-3 at home, 2-3 on the road. That means they're due for a home win, and as bad as their roster is, we'll get ROFLstomped. 91% Thomas Valdovinos is someone I trust more than James Doiron or Scott Blank in the lineup, so he'll play hurt.

We're up by 6 or 7, but by halftime, that's cut down to just 2 points. I'm sure you're all well aware of the inevitable second half surge that's going to happen.

Sure enough, they take the lead... we get it back, but then they take it back themselves. Then, with 33 seconds left, Thomas Valdovinos says fuck your injury, and hits a huge 3 pointer to put us up by 2 points.

Ronald England fouls, and when they miss the back end, grabs the rebound with 8 seconds left. We quickly call a timeout, and hustle out our free throw lineup.

Fouls ensue, and with 2 seconds left, Dennis Debouvines blows the first free throw and they get the rebound, but cruelty kicks in, as their carefulness in free throws ironically caused them to run out of time, and we escape with a win.

We did just enough to get it, and sometimes, that's enough. Despite my frustrations with our second half implosions, due to my 0/0/0/0 coaching and the overall team youth, we're now 4-5, and have as many total wins this season as we had all of last year. That has to count for something, no?

They can't rebound for shit, but have excellent post defenders, and Charles Jones is a deadly shooting sophomore from distance. I'm a little nervous about this one. Okay, a lot nervous.

Two quick fouls by Dewayne Ortega and Ronald England each really put us behind the 8 ball, but Scott Blank hits three triples and Charles Jones is limited with foul trouble of his own. As a result, we take a 6 point advantage at the break, after being in some difficulties early on.

And the closest they get the rest of the way is 4 points, adding a buzzer-beating 3 pointer to make the final score look more respectable than what it actually was.

Thomas Valdovinos really controlled the flow of this game, and his success has been one of the biggest and most pleasant surprises of this season. Also nice to see good Scott Blank show up in what is his really his best role - a bench sparkplug who drills 3 pointers. Although Richard Montes hasn't been the blocking machine I hoped for, with just 0.6 rejections per game, he's been our best shooting big, and James Doiron continues to disappoint in his sophomore season, hitting just 23.4% of his shots.

This is a notable win, not only because it puts us back to .500 and ties last year's victory total already, it's also the first game where we demonstrated we could play a game of both halves, rather than falling apart in the second half. Great job we did on Charles Jones, by the way. All credit due to Jeremie Agache and whomever else was on him whenever Agache was sitting (forgot to make sure Renroe was sticking to Jones).

So I bought the game and started my career at South Dakota St.
Go Jackalopes!

I played akron my 1st game. They had 18 steals and we had about 30 turnovers. Lost 73-37

Like the game. Recruiting is pretty easy. Need to find stuff.

Why wont players redshirt? Is that because the players refuse?

You can turn off players refusing redshirts in the League Options (I always do).

Colors follow the rainbow, and their equivalents are in the first email when you start a game. At work now, but it's roughly something like this:

Red - Suckass.
Orange - Decent player for a scrub level team
Yellow - Decent player for a mid-major team.
Green - Star player for a mid-major, Starter for a legit team.
Blue - Star player

Keep in mind that these are rough translations of an overall player's talent level. In actuality you could have a Red current player outperform a Yellow current player, depending on your team setup (see Thomas Valdovinos over Scott Blank for an example in this dynasty).

Sorry for all the questions.
After I start a career, where can I go to turn off refusal to redshirt? or can I?

They're a better team than their record and 73.8 points a game given up suggest. Oh, side note: We have the second worst RPI in the country at 346 due to our .203 strength of schedule, which is the easiest in all of college basketball. Only 9-1 Miami (.228 and #324 RPI) is below .280 SOS).

As a point of comparison, our first two seasons, our RPI was 331 and 309 respectively, and we finished ranked #339 in both years.

I was right to worry about this team - we're shooting just 27.3% from the floor. But by hitting 3 pointers and drawing lots of fouls, we're able to take a 30-23 halftime lead at 30.8% overall. St. Francis hit over 50% early, but are down to 33.3% by the break.

They draw within 3 at several points early in the second half, but we're hitting enough shots to keep them within the 5-7 point margin. Richard Montes fouls out with 3:04 left and our holding a 55-48 edge.

Curiously, we're up by 9 with just over a minute left, and they haven't started fouling yet. But after they hit a 3 pointer to cut the lead to 6, then they foul. I stupidly forgot to put in Richard Joplin, so of course Thomas Valdovinos misses the front end of the 1 and 1 and they rebound.

Fortunately Ronald Seaman misses the 3, and James Doiron grabs the board. Naturally, he blows both opportunities, but Richard Joplin doesn't, after the missed 3 and defensive board. That's enough to guarantee it, the second 3 game win streak of my regime, and a third straight year of wins improvement.

Great unlocking of a beast mode by Ronald England there, and the first good game in a while for Dewayne Ortega. Also nice to see Richard Montes finally record 2 rejections.

Despite the win, we officially drop to last in RPI.

Preston Bertrand is a legit star for this level, but good gravy, this team is bad, and the 80.4 points a game to 58 and change points scored is proof positive of that. Which of course means we'll lose by 20.

Naturally, we're not able to make any of our shots in the early going and they make everything, jumping out to a 10-2 lead. We get the lead back thanks to good Scott Blank showing up, and what happens? They scored 5 unanswered points in the last 45 seconds of the half to go up by 5 when the midpoint buzzer goes.

And of course they do whatever the fuck they want in the second half, and only a late barrage of 3 pointers by us makes it look halfway decent by the end.

Their second leading scorer is out 2 months with an injury, and we really should be able to curbstomp these guys to go into MEAC play with a wack ass winning record. Should, and what will happen are of course two different things. Great post defenders they've got, though.

Bad basketball follows. Army drills a 3 to go up by 3 at the half, and the urge to shatter my keyboard is rising.

Even more so when they're unstoppable early on in the second half. And of course right when we get to within 3, Scott Blank is knocked out with injury. GG.

The closest we get is within 1 a couple times, and then they run away with it.

Even better? Scott Blank is out 38 days.

Best news of all? We lose another recruit.

I think the 0/0/0/0 is really killing us, so I'm tempted to quit this dynasty and start over with a coach that uses all 100 of the Level 1 points.

I feel your pain. I scheduled your team in my career. Thought it would be an easy win. We lost by 10. Add in the 2 conference losses to western Illinois witha a prs of 8. And I may get fired this season. My AD told me not to finish lat in the summit. I'm well on my way.
But I did her a 3* SG from Germany to commit.

This game is frustrating.

You'll have at least a 2-3 season cushion in the opening gig, so you won't get fired in the first season. FBCB is not a Scumbag Steve like FM in that way.

tarc, you might not want to sign up for the punishment of a Level 0 coach that Izulde likes inflicting on himself.

Thats the thing, I didnt. I think I put it at 5. So I had some points to use. But I put the most in recruiting. I thought I would get talent and win that way. It is the Summit after all.

Well, that's a great starting point. But that won't do you any good in season 1.

Yeah, I couldn't stand to be 0'ed out in ratings. I know I said it earlier, but I'd recommend fast simming through at least 5-10 years of seasons before taking over a team. That allow the default file of players to get flushed out and replaced with generated recruits, which I think creates a lot more realistic teams.

The sub 5 prestige teams get the worst collection of talent with the default file, at least if you sim through 10 season before taking over the 2 prestige team you will actually have a player or two worth a damn.

Yeah I can't imagine that painfulness and I'm so not interested in coaching, so it makes it hard for me to want to run one of these bad team and turn them good programs. Though I'm curious to see if I could do something similar where I have a Brad Stevens/Shaka Smart type coach at a really backwater program who has the talent, good assistants (the game doesn't do a great job of modeling these kinds of coaches, fwiw) and then has to build a program into a power since at first you don't get anyone good and you won't have a lot of money or great facilities.

Hmm...you all have me thinking.

The problem I think is that Rex does a terrible job of training, and is suboptimal at game strategy. Makes it much more difficult to turn programs around.

Yes this. Can't just leave it and believe that it's going to coach itself.
