Hell of a role on Sports Night as well.

Benson was probably my favorite 80's sitcom that I was never able to track down in the years since. Only two seasons were released on DVD and it hasn't been on streaming services, as far as I know. It's occasionally in rotation on over-the-air independent local stations (like "Laff" network stations), but otherwise, hard to find.

That's a bummer. Wouldn't have guessed he was 89, but remember when he had a stroke and missed some of Sportsnight.

I was lucky I had parents that let me watch Soap.

Benson was definitely the funniest character on it. (with Bert a close second)

I too watched the hell out of Benson albeit admittedly it wasn't as funny. Still loved it. The show really hit its stride when Rene Aubernojois came aboard and the arguments they would have.

Funny that both Clayton ( later Odo) and Pete (later Neelix) were on Star Trek shows years later

I was surprised by this as well. I suppose the math makes sense, but he always seemed somewhat ageless.

He was the doctor in Big Fish and of course Isaac in Sports Night.
