Coach Cliff Ellis picked up his 800th career win in Coastal Carolina's win over App State yesterday. The Chants have had a slow start to the season, with mostly new or inexperienced players, but have hit Sun Belt conference play running, currently 4-1. They travel to Georgia this week to take on the two Georgia Sun Belt teams, and could go a long way to deciding who is the top team in the conference.

He's not actually, we just prop him up as a cardboard cutout.

This is why I sometimes miss the U.S. They don't give a hoot about American collegiate sports here in Japan.

The word I'm hearing from my buddies in the States is that the current season is the best college basketball season for some time (despite how my Crimson Tide are doing). Do you all agree with that?

AFAIC, they can keep Kim Anderson indefinitely, but I don't think they will.

Anderson is gone. I was wrong when I said they would give him a couple more years. I didnt realize Anderson had no concept of running an offense.

Iowa has lost 3 in a row. I wonder if our freshmen have hit a wall.

I thought the Iowa State win at Kansas was going to be the biggest thing that happened today, then Oregon had to go put up a 20 point lead over Arizona at halftime. Nice little KState vs Baylor game going on as well.

Iowa has won 2 in a row with Peter Jok out. And both wins were by big margins. Now I know the defenses they faced were poor, but Iowa started freshmen and sophomores.
The team played looser and shared the ball.

Jok is back tomorrow. Hope the team doesnt fall back into trying to get him his 25.

Not one ABSOLUTELY dominant team this year. Kentucky gets crushed at Florida along with the other upsets.

Kenpom gives Gonzaga a decent sized lead as the #1 team in the country. Unfortunately for them they won't be very tested headed into the tournament, but fortunately for them unless they lose 2 games, they're a #1 seed..maybe the committee will remember the last time they were #1 seed.

That being said, I like Wisconsin's senior leadership, Keonig, Hayes, Showalter and Vitto (I guess I'll add him) will give them a nice boost in tournament play. I don't see the Badgers losing more than two more games the rest of the way so they should have at worst a 3 seed... I'll like those odds with our squad. Likely S16 and at that point, anything can happen.

I've also seen rumors of Romar to Missouri because of the recruiting class he would bring.

Word I've seen is there's a different Pac-12 coach Mizzou has locked their sights on (and no, it's not Alford).

Washington won't get so lucky as to have another school pay his buyout for us. He's almost certainly going to be back next season given the financial situation and his recruiting class.

As odd as it is, Mizzou is going to have a lot better options available than last time despite the horrible situation as far as record goes. Mizzou does have a VERY young nucleus with some talent to where a couple extra recruits brought in by a coach could make this a pretty good program relatively soon. Everyone knows Kim is gone at the end of the year, so they have had plenty of time to put some feelers out there to gauge interest.

I hope you are right. I think a segment of Missouri fans want him just to rent Michael Porter for a season. Completely ignoring what Romar hasn't been able to accomplish with NBA filled rosters in his time at Washington.

Anything is better than the mess we have now but I would rather take a young coach who still may need a few more years to right the ship than Romar for one season of Porter and maybe 1-2 of his brother with very little else to offer.

The only coaches I see them going after are Altman and Enfield and I'm not sure Altman leaves. I know Alford has history in the state but I can't see him leaving this recruiting class for anything other than Indiana

Alford isn't even on the wishlist. From what I gather, IU fans want:

1a. Brad Stevens
1b. Billy Donovan
2. Gregg Marshall
3. One of the Miller brothers
4. Chris Collins

I think Stevens and Donovan are real longshots, especially Stevens. He has a good thing going in Boston. Why leave? I could see Donovan thinking that he signed up for working with Durant & Westbrook and opting out after Durant left and with Westbrook having the option to leave soon. But I'd say the odds are still against him coming to IU. I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on Archie Miller. No pun intended.

Archie is probably the first realistic guy on the list. I dont think Sean will finish in Tucson, but Indiana won't be the job to pull him away

To be fair to Romar, his slide is recent. Losing Cameron Dollar and Ken Bone as assistants was a blow. Dollar was the bad cop motivator, and Bone was the strategist. The coaches he's replaced them with aren't as good, and he doesn't listen to them as much as he did with Dollar and Bone. And the hand-check and other rules changes was a big blow to Romar's preferred style of defense, and he's been unable to effectively adapt. Lastly, he had a horrible stretch of recruiting where he A) put too many eggs in thinking his personal ties would land him guys like Aaron Gordon and Jabari Parker and getting out-maneuvered by Calipari for Terrance Jones, and B) not moving quickly enough to have good backup plans in place when those guys didn't commit.

But his first ten seasons at Washington were very good, and he did a good job developing the talent he had. Unfortunately he hasn't adapted and he's lost his way.

The thing about Archie Miller is, he hates being the face of the program. He loves coaching. He loves basketball. He hates PR. He is one of the most awkward guys you'll ever see in a press conference, and because of that he comes off as "refreshingly honest". He has never really faced real criticism at UD because he has done so well. I have no idea how he would do in such a critical environment under major scrutiny.

Dayton was so hungry for a winner and he's given it to us... he has barely ever faced any media adversity. And when he has, he has basically maintained radio silence. I don't think that would fly in the Big Ten.

Recruiting is another area where they have maintained massive secrecy. Many UD fans, even the connected ones, have literally no idea that some of these kids were coming here until they declared. We just signed some 20 year old Czech player named Matej Svoboda that literally no one outside the program ever heard of about 5 days before he committed. He has brought in 2 non-qualifiers to UD... Steve McElvene (who passed away this offseason) and Kostas Antetokounmpo... little brother of Giannis who didn't qualify because he went to part of high school in Greece. I don't know how the Big Ten feels about what used to be called "partial qualifiers". For all of the success UD has had, Archie's recruiting has remained at the 3 star or so level... but his coaching is outstanding, so those kids have all overachieved. He has recruited mainly kids like him, ones who feel overlooked but have a high ceiling and a major chip on their shoulder. That's probably not the kind of kid that's going to cut it at IU.

In a private booster setting, the associate AD has said that Archie has asked him to clear out all distraction that is not recruiting and coaching, and the athletic department has done that for Archie. Arch gets paid north of $1.5 million as a total compensation package at UD and is probably in line for another raise this year. I do think he'll move on eventually, but I really thought Florida or Pitt might be the jobs he took last year, and they came and went. People have been saying Indiana or Ohio State is really what he's waiting on for a couple of years now.

They both might be open this offseason, so we're gonna find out.

I've seen speculation on Archie to Ohio State and NC State on my Indiana board.

FWIW, an "insider" on the IU boards seems to think Donovan is interested in IU. One can dream! Honestly, at this point, I have more confidence in IU football than IU basketball.

I've seen speculation on Archie to Ohio State and NC State on my Indiana board.

FWIW, an "insider" on the IU boards seems to think Donovan is interested in IU. One can dream! Honestly, at this point, I have more confidence in IU football than IU basketball.

Never thought I would see a quote like that about a basketball school. Ouch.

I also care more about IU football than basketball, which makes me quite an anomaly.
