just got internet and cell service back. Never lost power. It broke a couple of straps on the hot tub cover. Couple of trees down in neighbor's yards but we escaped unscathed.

Meanwhile Hurricane Jose is going in circles. Let's hope it stays in the Atlantic.

No freaking way. Jose needs to go anywhere but south or west. Srsly. We've had enough for the next decade.

With Irma diminishing to a tropical storm, a hurricane-battered nation could soon shift its attention to Hurricane Jose, now meandering around the western Atlantic Ocean roughly 300 miles northeast of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

"Meandering" has got to be the word of the hurricane season. I heard Dylan Dreyer use it on probably four separate broadcasts to describe Harvey, along with at least one other weather person.

I might suggest to add "ass" as part of the search terms.

Not to "meander" off topic here, but is Dylan that hot? Maybe the pictures I see on Google aren't doing her justice.

Or, maybe, like you said, I just forgot to put "ass" in the search terms.

She's not necessarily that hot. She just happens to work for me.

And I think she has a mighty nice rump.

edit: I think for me there is something about her that comes across better live.

All good here-had wind/rain all day/night here but just "little stuff" down and not that much standing water it looks like. Never lost power/internet, but many places in SC, GA, especially along the coast can't say that. Worst damage here was storm surge flooding, and a tree nearly took out the local library. Irma has broken up, but the remains are still being felt in NC, Tenn, KY, and Miss today.

On the Dylan Dreyer front, it's the backside that wins the day. She seems like a slightly cuter Katie Couric until the badonk appears, and then she's suddenly much hotter for those who like that kind of shape.

One correction-I was doing a "patrol" of the house today after my walk, and noticed some damage. Our house is kind of L-shaped with the garage on one end of the house, and the rest of the house basically the other part of it. Until you get outside you cannot see past the garage on the right corner of the yard.

We've let the right-side of the yard basically "go wild", few trees, bushes, flowers etc. The right front corner along the road is very overgrown...though not so much now. A tree has come down in the middle of it, and somehow stayed in the underbrush rather than falling on the garage, street, or neighbor's property. It even avoided falling across the drainage ditch running along the street. Only problem may be that its fallen across/amongst the utilities stored there, so we have to clean it up anyway.

Well, not all together too bad. Lost power for 26 hours or so (3pm Monday to 5pm Tuesday). Aside from that, nothing crazy.

Dekalb County closing schools again tomorrow because a few schools still without power. Most other counties open for business except the worst run one in GA. No wonder everyone incorporates.

Lost power briefly and still without internet. Also, a tree branch fell and busted my roommate's back windshield.

My work was very reluctant to close on Monday and we didn't get the word until the last minute.

You do realize that Decatur City Schools are likely to close on Thursday as well - the superintendent told parents to prepare for it, but they would wait until this evening to see if they could somehow open? Not to mention other countries have canceled school tomorrow. And 35 schools without power is about 25% of the total of Dekalb County School. Having functionally two separate calendars for the school that have power and those that don't is far more of a pain than just adding another day at the end of the year for all schools in the County.

edit: and on Facebook I just had someone who lives in the North Druid Hills area just say that they finally got power back as of an hour ago.

Our districts schools had their power back on Tuesday, and our neighborhood has been clear since then as well. Fulton county is opening the schools that are ready and keeping closed the ones that are not.

Oh, and Decatur is open tomorrow as well and will just deal with the 2 closed schools. So of all the metro area, Dekalb County is the only one still pooping on itself (as usual). Can't wait to incorporate (though it won't fix the schools since that is still county).

While I ain't really a fan, if you read the article (and assume all parties are telling the truth) then they met what they agreed to do in pre-planning (minus one delayed opening by a few hours) and then exceeded it by a rather large percentage.

Red Cross can't really be held responsible for every shelter someone just decides to throw open.

And you know how Decatur City Schools are 'dealing' with the 2 closed schools, right? They are busing all those kids to other schools - City Schools of Decatur will reopen Thursday, will bus students from schools without power | Decaturish - Locally sourced news. Fulton County has power restored to ALL schools. Do you think that would work well in a county where schools without power make up 25% of the total schools in the district? Busing kids of 35 schools to other schools would be ridiculous.

I also just saw on FB that I have still have friends without power today. Apparently over 50,000 homes are still without power in Dekalb this morning and 100 trees are down across roads.

FWIW, the north west side of the metro got hit pretty hard. Gwinnett may be in school, but Hall, Lumpkin, and Banks are all closed today.

I mean at this point you are just coming across as strangely mad for no real reason.

It looks like Jose is going to do another circle and may still end up hitting the northeast in a few days. Who knows what will be left of it at that point, but the guy is certainly persistent.

Personal update on the aftermath of Irma update - finally found a rental place to take us and our pets so will be moving in Monday/Tuesday this week ... looking forward to not camping on our patio in the near future

(house is increasingly a wreck at this point, mold in walls where the water intruded, ceilings have already been taken down and we've got the AirConditioning ducts being replaced at the end of the month ...)

hard to believe a hurricane might make it to Ireland/England.

And Marc, somehow I missed you had been affected by Irma-sorry this happened, glad you found somewhere to live, and I hope you are able to rebuild quickly!

Looks like it'll be tropical storm strength when it hits at its worse from what I can tell ... it's circa 80mph or as the BBC weather page puts it - "A spell of very windy weather is expected on Monday"

It's not ideal and unfortunately the contractors are estimating it'll be around six months to rebuild as everything needs to be stripped down and then built back up again because there is mold in most of the internal walls .. (as well as the mold our roof needs replacing and also all the air-conditioning ducts because they also issue and mold in them).

On the other hand, everyone is still alive and healthy and that's the main thing

(my blood pressure will go down once our beloved insurance company actually indicates they're willing to pay for at least some of the repairs - at present they're being less than useless ... they've 'lost' the first assessors report as far as I can tell)

That's awful Marc, sorry to hear that you're having to go through all that. I really hope your insurance company will be good to work with. That will make all the difference in the world.
