Help with song--driving me crazy!

This is stupid, but what song begins with:

"If you like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain"?

Man do I have a list of these rolling around in my head.

One of them is a song who's refrain is "and the last thing I need is another cold one" that was played once by an unfamiliar songwriter on Turner South's "Live at the Bluebird Cafe"

I've got about 18 more.

I was tired of my lady, we'd been together too long.
Like a worn-out recording, of a favorite song.
So while she lay there sleeping, I read the paper in bed.
And in the personals column, there was this letter I read:

"If you like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
If you're not into yoga, if you have half-a-brain.
If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape.
I'm the lady you've looked for, write to me, and escape."

I didn't think about my lady, I know that sounds kind of mean.
But me and my old lady, had fallen into the same old dull routine.
So I wrote to the paper, took out a personal ad.
And though I'm nobody's poet, I thought it wasn't half-bad.

"Yes, I like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
I'm not much into health food, I am into champagne.
I've got to meet you by tomorrow noon, and cut through all this red tape.
At a bar called O'Malley's, where we'll plan our escape."

So I waited with high hopes, then she walked in the place.
I knew her smile in an instant, I knew the curve of her face.
It was my own lovely lady, and she said, "Oh, it's you."
And we laughed for a moment, and I said, "I never knew"..

"That you liked Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
And the feel of the ocean, and the taste of champagne.
If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape.
You're the love that I've looked for, come with me, and escape."

"If you like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
If you're not into yoga, if you have half-a-brain.
If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape.
You're the love that I've looked for, come with me, and escape."

Since we're on the subject, I just found the origin of one line of lyrics that has floated in and out of my head since high school, at least. It always popped up too infrequently for me to try to figure out where it came from - or when I asked, no one knew - but thanks to the internet, I finally found it. And it was a surprise.

So, without using an internet search engine, does anyone know the name of the song and band this line comes from?

"Don't ask me what I think of you. You might not get the answer that you want me to."

I know it's Fleetwood Mac, but I don't know the song title.

That would be 'Oh Well' by Fleetwood Mac (pre Knicks/Buckingham). There was also a version of this put out in the 80's, but I can't find who the artist was (too many versions).

I can't help about the shape I'm in
I can't sing, I ain't pretty
And my legs are thin
But don't ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer
that you want me to, oh well

Now, when I talked to God
I knew he'd understand
He said

"Stick by my side and I'll be your guiding hand. But don't ask me what I think of you. I might not give the answer that you want me to."

That didn't quite make sense...there's a specific version I remember, but I haven't pinpointed who the artist was for the version. There.

Rupert Holmes is awesome! Okay, that song may be pretty cheesy, but the rest of his stuff is really cool. I mean it! Okay, now that we've determined I'm the only closet Rupert Holmes fan around here...

Yeah, that's it. Although you bring up an interesting point I hadn't thought of, which is, is the version I hear on the radio every few years the Fleetwood Mac version, or someone else? It sounds live, if that helps.

No, not his version, it's older than that. I'd say mid to late 80's, and was more a pop, and was a little more synthesized/rap-like. Hard to describe.

Ksyrup, I'd bet it is the Fleetwood Mac version you've heard.

Could be, I was never a FM fan and just read about their history on allmusic.com. Very interesting. I never realized they had a Jefferson Airplane/Starship-type career - I just thought they wrote a bunch of 70's/80's lite-rock, which they did of course, but that wasn't all.

Even more amazing to me, I just learned that Green Manalishi (with the Two-Pronged Crown) was not an original Judas Priest song, but a Fleetwood Mac song! Now THAT blew me away.

I was a little surprised when I found out about their jazz/blues origins too.

Oh, they also put out "Black Magic Woman" before Santana.

Yes, I saw that one listed as well. As I am now learning, the guy who was the principal force behind them in the late 60's through 1970, Peter Green, was a contemporary of Eric Clapton (both being white blues guitarists) and Green even replaced Clapton in one band as Clapton left to form Cream. He took Fleetwood and McVie from that band and formed FM, before leaving the band around 1970 as his life degraded into drug abuse and mental illness. In fact, green Manalishi is apparently a song he wrote about himself.

Very interesting stuff. I guess I've learned my "new fact" for the day.
