1871 (Season 34) Off-season Thread

Draft order for next year. Only doing it now, so that people with 1871 picks know what they're worth in case they plan to deal in the off-season or something.

A number of us suckers traded picks in this draft though, so...some teams are happy about the deals they made. Draft track here. Don't despair though, 1874 draft picks will be eligible to trade starting after Monday's 1870 draft.

No, you got the 1.9 from Wyoming actually. That 1.10 goes to Washington.

You can see it here.

I noticed that a lot of guys in the new draft class have potential ratings that would be impossible to achieve given their ages.
23 year olds with contact talent of 8, but current contact of 1 or 2.
Even the pitching studs will probably never reach their potential.

Is this the way it's going to be?

We should have just canceled the draft this year. What a fucking disaster. Even 1.10 will never see the majors.

You all have to decide what you want. Talent inflation or have drafts keep up. Think of it as talent austerity.

Can we re-introduce walks into the league this year? They've gone on a walkabout for the past 2 years...

What about a dice roll each season. Have varying degrees of shitty vs awesome draft class quality, determined by the dice roll. I think a class like this year's class is ok every now and then, as long as it's determined by chance.

That would bring down talent inflation, but would also help prevent the complete devaluation of draft picks.

It's already random. Like in real life, essentially. I didn't mean to imply that we'd be adopting what Gomer mentioned as edict. I just meant that we have no idea what the classes will look like until the game generates them. So it's already the way he describes in the status quo. I've had to improve them the past few years to get you any semblance of talent, meaning adding AI generated players after the fact to the pool the game creates on its own.

The game generates the talent based on what we already have, which is why what we see now is way worse. But the feedback seems to be that you all preferred the classes were a bit more robust?

i would like a middle ground. currently there is soooo much talent, we have 1 star guys with 10 contact and power. but in this draft... there was only 1 guy who was real good.....

you could edit the guys age I picked to be 18 and I would be much more confident about his development

I'm not going to start that slippery slope of editing guys. But I know there are ways to improve the game-created draft classes (mostly by adding more developed players after it's been created) and I will take a look at that for us next year.

the vocal minority often seems like it speaks for the majority.

I'm not a fan of needing 9 and 10 guys just to field a .500 team. I liked the draft class this year and hope it is the norm going forward. It will be nice to see 6 and 7 rated guys having a chance at actually contributing at the major league level in a few years.

I had no intentions of changing anything. I was mostly soliciting feedback. But I encourage the silent minority to speak up, because that makes these decisions easier.

I hate the distribution of talent right now. Like the above post by sttfrk it is nice to find contributors out of guys with 6 ratings and the top talent guys really sticking out with their ratings.

I'm also with sttfrk. Problem is the only way we're going to get there, is to have what looks like shitty draft classes for awhile until the talent comes down. So I like the middle ground of adding in some players after the class is generated to keep picks having value, and eventually doing that won't be needed.

Portland and Worcester asked to move to the AL, but there are no teams in the NL that want to go DH-less. So they'll have to wait a bit.

I hereby officially petition the powers that be to allow Ponty Lopez to come out of retirement. Dude is 40 years old, but is still carrying a 10 contact rating and should be able to help somebody's infield.

I thought Salavisa had retired, but it appears he staged a coup and has signed with the "expansion" San Diego Fathers. It seems fitting for him to retire with the Fathers, and the Aces wish him the best of luck!
