Diablo 3

So I get an email today with a pre-order for Diable 3 for 89.99 ! 90 freaking bucks for that? WTF is wrong with this picture? And it doesnt even seem to be any special edition or anything....... Time to wait for the inevitable visit to the bargain bin in a few years.......

You could always sub to WoW for a year and get it for free.

I got that email from Newegg as well. If you click down, eventually you get to an order page, where it's marked at $59.99, so I guess it's a typo in the email title....but I had the same visceral reaction that you did, and I can't imagine we're alone. I bet they received some interesting emails today.

I was planning on waiting for D3 to hit consoles, but after playing it at PAX East, I'm strongly contemplating buying a gaming laptop.

Tried out the beta and I won't be buying it. $60 isn't worth shitty social features being forced on you and always online DRM, especially with better looking alternatives out there.

Torchlight 2 I guess as it does seem to be a much better improved version on the original, but it's highly wait and see for me. I know the people behind Titian's Quest are making a new one. Path of Exile, although I can't say it's a better looking alternative. I think there's one more.

Path of Exile opened up their beta last week, to anyone willing to pay $10, if there are still folks curious about that one.

I think they have done two patches since I last played but that's mostly because they added two real quick. I might have to dust it off next week to give it some more play before I get busy again. I could easily see doing the $15 option for it and using the coins or whatever currency they are using to add extra storage. I absolutely horde things in games like this. $15 feels like a steal for a game like this. I would likely add more later on, but I don't get the feeling this is a game that I'm going to be accidently pumping hundreds of dollars into. It desperately needs a third act, but it is being added before it goes live.

I'm looking forward to Torchlight 2, Grim Dawn from the Titan Quest creators, and checking out Path of Exile.

Diablo 3 didn't do much for me while playing it. Can't say I liked pots being nerfed the way they were and the character progression felt dumbed down. With everything else there is to deal with to go alongside that I can't say that it interests me.

I paid the minimum $10 to get access after the open beta, and I think it will easily scratch my action RPG itch, and seems like a relatively good value, compared to all the mediocre early impressions Diablo seems to be garnering...even better value for those who can wait and just play it for free, when it gets released. I sure would like some extra storage though, now that you mention it.

This game is easily worth the 10 bucks I paid for access.

I haven't read much about Diablo 3 but wanted to know how the multi-player is going work. Is it co-op or with larger groups?

EDIT: Another question. Will I be able to d/l and play Diablo on both my PC and laptop? If so, will I be able to continue the same character on both devises?

This probably isn't the right thread, but Path of Exile is having another open weekend, starting this friday, for anybody who's interested.

I read last night that there will be a free trial where you can play the first 'act' and level up to 13. Sounds like a good place to start for me.

Ya but I don't have to jam it into a single weekend determined by Blizzard.

I told myself I wasn't going to buy it because I really don't believe it's worth $59.

But who am I kidding.

So much for playing the Starter Edition this week:

"Note: The Diablo III Starter Edition will not be available without a Guest Pass until 30 days after the game launches."

Battle.net download for Diablo 3 is 59 euros. Which is just a pile of wonderful, since it's approx 33% pricier than it is in dollars. I guess it's with all the logistics and all.

When you explain it, it doesn't sound anywhere near as good. I'm not sure it's really even all that good. I just know I want to play it.

It is the epitome of "Just one more and I'm done" and the next thing you know it's 2am in the morning style game. There might have been hack 'n' slash before Diablo, but as usual, Blizzard mainstreamed it in a way that blew everything else away and the only Diablo killer is Blizzard themselves. Somewhere in the list of definitive monster encounters, hearing "Fresh meat" for the first time has to rank rather high. The ending for the first one was rather sweet as well. While I'll argue DII didn't have the same atmospheric feel, it solidified the franchise as one of the most significant in gaming.

It's really the ultimate in quick hack 'n slash. You run out, you kill things. They drop things that you can use. Rinse, repeat. It's simply fun. The speed at which you get things done is the best part - as soon as you leave town, creatures start dropping upgrades for your character. By the time you have a good handle on things, you know what pieces you're looking for. And if you get bored, you can whip up a new character in about 30 seconds and have an entirely new game play experience - the playstyles vary considerably from character to character. The story line and atmosphere are enough to get you into it, but not so deep that you have to work to get invested.

It is really satisfying when things die. It's the sound and the animation. It feels good. Even after then 90 thousandth time.
