I didn't really play much of Diablo 2 even though I got both it and the expansion. They just didn't have the same feel of the original. I'm not saying they weren't good games and probably improved any problem mechanics. But the roiginal Diablo is still one of the best games of all times for me. I think the story/atmosphere played a large part of that too.
Since I didn't really play D2 I'd be wasting money on D3 I think. So go play D1 for really cheap (or even free )

(and most definitely wait until they do a major bug patch and upgrade/expand their servers)

You won't. I'd say wait for sale, but it'll take a couple years before Blizzard drops it a dollar.

I have been playing fine for 2 hours but then i decided to stop and log out and now i can't login again and play the offline campaign because servers are too busy :/

I understand that Blizard wants to avoid piracy, but to force you to login to play the offline campaign is over the top, specially if they don't have the infrastructure ready for the expected huge demand.

Finished 3 chapters in Act I.

So far, so good. This is going to be fun, since SouthEastAsia is in the Americas Region.

And this is why I will not be buying Diablo III, or any game that requires this shit.

On a more amusing note, one of my coworkers decided to work from home today. We're all calling shenanigans there.

I'm reading that it's "maintenance" with a possible ETA of 4:30EST. But I'm also reading people are getting in now. So maybe any minute?

Either way, my downloads about 50% done so I have about an hour till I can attempt it so hopefully by 5 I can give this shit a go.

So how would this game be for someone who has never played the first two? It is pretty hard to find first impressions on the net right now, maybe because everyone is having trouble logging in.

I'm intrigued by all the hype but honestly am not sure what to expect from the game.

Few games out there are easier to get in to.

Not the smoothest launch so far, but I pretty much expected it. Not being able to play single player offline really does blow.

For those who have played Diablo before, the short answer is that it's Diablo, only shiny and new. It took about half an hour to get back into the groove of playing, but the gameplay fits like a well worn kid glove. There are some changes, particularly in the way skills work in this game, that will probably cause NerdRage, but the changes make a whole lot of sense and work smoothly.

For those who have not played Diablo before, you've probably played Diablo before. It was just called Titan Quest, or Darkstone, or Fate, or Torchlight, or any one of several dozen other action RPGs where you hack and slash your way through a nearly endless procession of baddies in isometric view to gain ever more exotic piles of gold and randomized equipment. The reason Diablo 3 is so hyped is the reason we're excited for FBPB3, why we keep buying FM every year, and why quite a few of us still hold out hope of getting another FOF or TCY from Jim: when Blizzard is on its game, they are one of the best developers in the world at what they do -in this case, that means taking the best interface and control system ideas anyone has come up with, and making them as intuitive to get into as possible. (It is quite possible they suck mightily at keeping server queues low.) This is a Diablo informed not only by Blizzard's past, but with influences from Guild Wars, Titan Quest, the Elder Scrolls, and a host of other products I'm sure I haven't picked up on yet.

Login issues and server stability are the only things I've seen wrong with the game so far. It's pissing me off that there are problems, but the time I have spent in the game so far has been very satisfying. Not everyone likes the hack and slash style of gameplay, but for those who do, Diablo is still the bar by which to measure the genre.

Oh, and my gamertag is Shkspr1346, since I remembered to look at it this afternoon.

CleBrownsFan#1387

I played a little bit this morning and at work. Got to lvl 9 and I'm loving the pace of the game. A little easy but I'm sure once lvl gets a little higher it will be a little more challenging.

I think I would be happier with D3's always-on nonsense if Blizzard hadn't been so open that a big reason was so they could make money off a real-money auction house.
