McBride was great. Sometimes I go back on youtube and watch the video of the announcement of his drafting in the MLS entry draft just for fun.

Gah - there used to be a video. Guess it's gone now?

I used Bradley and Dempsey because they are 2 of highest profile players in the league (with Thierry Henry and Landon). Do Marco Di Vaio, Kenny Miller or Jermain Defoe work better?

Most people in the major sports prefer to play in LA or NY too, but occasionally they'll sign in a Seattle (Cano) or Detoit (Prince Fielder) or Buffalo (Mario Williams) because of money. So far really 3.5 DP's have "forced" their way to NY or LA that I can think of (Beckham, Donovan, Henry and now Villa), but the #1 thing affecting whether your team has DP's period is whether ownership is willing to spend money or not. If only NY or LA can get a Beckham/Henry, it's still not a competitive problem as long as you can get an Osvaldo Alonso, Javier Morales, Diego Valeri, Federico Higuain, Mauro Rosales, Marco Di Vaio etc. Now, teams trading away DP slots can be a competitive problem, but you've got cheapskate owners and big-spending owners in any league. I think the DP system is a perfect way to allow those owners who want to break the bank to do so while still allowing other teams to compete - there's no indication there's some tier system or permanent underclass.

I've teared up a few times.

Despite reading several books on the tragedy, watching this documentary on Netflix and seeing the tv footage for the first time is very jarring.

So... as a cord cutter, I was preparing myself for watching most of the World Cup on Univision (with jaunts to the local bar for US matches - all on ESPN - seriously ABC?) as it appears that one way the broadcast networks are dealing with cord cutting is shunting programming to cable. Imagine my surprise when I realized that since I get my internet through Comcast, I can use ESPN3 - where every single World Cup match will be streaming live (and through my Chromecast watch it on my TV)!

Never understood why Jozy takes so much crap from people while Dempsey gets a pass

Yeah, he really did. He received the ball multiple times in the box and didn't get a shot or pass off.

That's been inevitable since Arsenal basically didn't want him back IMO. Good signing, think his style translates far better to the premiership than it did in Spain (or at least Barca)

Sad/frustrating to see him in blue, but I hope that means Arsenal will use that money towards a striker and holding midfielder (and right back and backup keeper)

OK, I can see Luis Suarez moving to Real Madrid, but Barcelona? They seem like an organization that tries to avoid the circus, if possible.

In recent years maybe, but we are not so many years removed from the team openly feuding amongst themselves. With a transfer ban looming and a fading team, they need to spend a fortune this summer.

Solskjaer back to Molde, btw. Although I think TroyF had good points when this came up (almost) two years ago.

City dominating Chelsea, but failing to finish very good chances. It's exactly why we needed a Harry Kane.
