In the NL, the Cleveland Spiders have clinched their first playoff spot in franchise history. I hope you bet on them at 13-1 odds, since I had them finishing just outside of the money. Meanwhile, Gettysburg is a near lock (With a magic number of 1) to clinch a spot meaning the last NL playoff spot will come down to the wire.

In the AL, far better teams but it's far more open. No one has clinched a playoff spot yet. Literally anyone could come out alive.

NL (Gettysburg (94-64) Cleveland (93-65) both clinched spots. But neither has secured the top seed, meaning they're still playing for a chance at a bye or having to play the 3rd seed in the Elimination Series.

Meanwhile for the 3rd spot, we have Brooklyn (84-74) with a half-game lead over Washington and two games ahead of Rio Grande.

Cleveland is mathematically eliminated at 87-71, leaving two teams duking it out for the AL's final playoff spot, not to mention the top two seek out a bye.

Oh, apparently Rio Grande (84-76) is actually only a game out of the NL wild card. Just for reference, it's the morning of 9/16. Gettysburg and Cleveland have clinched NL playoff spots. Washington (85-75), Brooklyn (85-75) and Rio Grande (84-76) could plausibly have a three-way tie for the 3rd playoff spot. Which is completely insane.

Ok, so if last year's insane season-ending one-game playoff wasn't enough, this year we're ending with bedlam in both leagues.

Here's the scenario. Washington and Brooklyn are tied for the NL wild card. Both win and we do an immediate one-game playoff to determine the winner of the 3rd NL spot. If Rio Grande wins and both of them lose, we have a 3-way tie.

In the AL, Chicago and St. Louis are tied for the 3rd spot. Simple here too. Both win, we have a tiebreaker, one wins and the other loses and they claim the spot.

I was excited and mortified about that three-way tiebreaker all at once, as I wasn't entirely sure what I was going to do to break it. In MLB, the team with the best head-to-head record gets a choice of what they want to do. (Two road games or one home game) For future reference, the team with the best head-to-head record would face the winner of the other two teams at home in a one-game winner take all game for the wild card.

Anyway, let's sim these tiebreaker games shall we?

Chicago won the season series against St. Louis (9-8) so they get to host. In the NL, Washington (11-6) won the season series over Brooklyn, so they'll host their game. And I have to add them to the schedule manually, since OOTP just does it randomly.

So the playoffs tomorrow night:

ALES: St. Louis vs. Winnemucca (winner will face San Diego)
NLES: Washington vs. Cleveland (winner will face Gettysburg)

If nothing else, this the first time probably since I can possibly remember that the NL playoffs won't have Brooklyn or Carolina (and Rio Grande to a lesser extent)

The Kings began their SLOP history losing 100+ games four times. The last time they lost more than 89 games was 22 seasons ago. Gettysburg makes the post-season for the 3rd time in 4 years. A year after Cleveland's other team made their playoff debut, their cross-town and soon to be leaguemates make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. Perhaps this will be the year that the boys from D.C. get over the hump in the NL. Both Gettysburg and Washington have failed to appear in the Sunset Series, but they've got a 2/3 chance of doing it this year; for the Grays, this is their 3rd straight playoff appearance.

In the AL, San Diego makes their 4th straight playoff appearance, Winnemucca makes the playoffs for the 13th time in franchise history and 9th straight time. Meanwhile, St. Louis returns to the post-season after missing last year. Had Chicago not missed, they'd have made the playoffs for the first time since '56, back when the team still played in the N.L.

Ed Saunders came back, played in eight games and hit .200, but he did what he came back to do and that's hit his 800th career home run at the age of 43. The dinger came off Columbus starter T.J. DeHaven. Props to Carolina from bringing him back in a down year to do that for the home fans. Pretty cool. He was 2nd overall in 1842 by the Kings organization and spent the bulk of his career there as their FRANCHISE player.

There were two no-hitters this year, the first in six years. Laborers SP Ron Prehn threw the first perfect game in 16 yrs this August against Winnemucca, the 2nd time they were no-hit this year, the most no-hit games in one season (3) in history.

Hilariously, Winnemucca was the team the last perfect game came against too.

I can't promise this will be a recurring project or anything, but..I thought it'd be fun nonetheless. It's kind of a rip of FOBL's Cup, except Owner's Cup happens before the start of the playoffs and it's only comprised of Lottery teams (aka, non-playoff teams)

The format is 3-5-5-7.

I'm just going to sim right through now using regular season exports, because it doesn't matter and it's just for giggles.

Both Gettysburg and Washington have failed to appear in the Sunset Series, but they've got a 2/3 chance of doing it this year; for the Grays, this is their 3rd straight playoff appearance. In the AL, San Diego makes their 4th straight playoff appearance, Winnemucca makes the playoffs for the 13th time in franchise history and 9th straight time. Meanwhile, St. Louis returns to the post-season after missing last year. Had Chicago not missed, they'd have made the playoffs for the first time since '56, back when the team still played in the N.L.
