Columbus is going to be scary good if their offense can even do a sliver of what that pitching staff ought to do. All of that patience and waiting coupled with smart FFP bidding looks like it might finally pay off. The NL West should be a parity-filled dogfight with really any the four of those five teams (sorry Portland) able to claim the crown.

The AL East will be interesting but Memphis has the inside track and the AL West is the 2nd toughest division in SLOP. Rio Grande, St. Louis, Las Vegas and Winnemucca are all good in their own ways. Someone is going to be home when the dust settles.

I think the NL East is arguably the toughest division in the league just based on the quality of the teams and how they're setup right now.

If it's any consolation, the game screwed up my lineup, when I clearly went with a different team heading to spring and so, as a result...my first half team doesn't reflect what I intended.

AKA, it happens to me too sometimes. I think the problem had to do with the fact that I don't usually have to export and the fact that I switched machines (on the road until Sunday) but whatever..

Thing worth noting about divisional play is, the schedule is balanced so everyone by the end of the season will have played every team in their league the same number of times. So we won't have situations where one division is weaker than the other, everyone plays the same teams and so...it works out fairly.

The NL East is, as I expected, a bloodbath. Didn't expect Kauai to be so dominant to start the year, but wolvie's youth movement on offense and pitching is a tough combination to beat, but on the flip side...it'll be interesting to see how folks feel about a division champ winning their division and qualifying with a worse record than a 3rd place non-qualifier from a tougher division.

I hate when people talk about tanking and hate people actually tanking even more.

I don't want to get into an argument or even a prolonged discussion, but I would hope everyone is doing their best to win as many games as possible. I know Portland will be making some moves to try to improve their win total this season. Obviously I'm limited due to the lack of talent this second year franchise has, but I'd never purposely try to lose games.

The draft lottery pretty much presents tanking. We didn't implementing it for tanking, but to give non-playoff teams something to look forward.

Anyway, "tanking" in this context isn't the same as tanking. It's rather about making a conscious effort to keep a team together or blowing up a team. That's not tanking, it's smart when it's prudent.

Heh - I was kidding. We are in the middle of a massive rebuild, so we are already tanking!

After we win our next ring, we're gonna go into massive tank mode, just for the fun of it.

Sept 10th

Kauai (81-73) has clinched the NL West title and with it, claim a playoff spot despite being the 5th best team in the Nationwide League. No one else has clinched a playoff spot to date.

NL EAST
Brooklyn 96-59
Washington 89-66 7 GB
Gettysburg 87-67 8.5 GB
Columbus 85-70 11 GB

Washington leads the wild card race by 1.5 games over Gettysburg and 4 games over Columbus.

In the AL, St. Louis (101-54) holds a 5 1/2 game lead over Winnemucca in the AL West race. In the AL East, it's a dogfight to the finish with Cuyahoga leading Memphis by just a half game.

9/16: Memphis holds a 2 game lead in the AL East over Cuyahoga. Chicago holds a one-game lead over Rio Grande for the 5th best record in the AL. Which becomes relevant for reasons I will discuss here shortly.

So yeah, I devised the perfect playoff situation. I didn't really like excluding the 3rd best team in the NL from the post-season year thanks to divisional realignment. But I wasn't going to exclude a division champ from the post-season either.

So in years where a division champ finishes 4th or 5th in the league standings, the playoffs expand to 5 teams per league (I wanted to keep it to the affected league only but OOTP doesn't generate enough byes for both top seeds to advance straight to the LCS that way) and since I know some people are wildly against 5 teams per league, there's a solution.

If BOTH of the teams who get in via this Conditional Playoff Rule (CPR) decide they'd prefer NOT to advance to the post-season, they can simply decline before the start of the post-season and we'll revert back to 3 per league for that season.

It has to be BOTH teams not just one, because the game won't let me remove just one, but...at least this puts the decision in the hand of those teams.

So in that case, this year's lucky losers are Gettysburg (3rd in the NL) and Columbus (4th in the NL) who finished with better records on a balanced schedule than Kauai (NL West Champs) and so, Gettysburg and Columbus could both opt out, but if only one does.. won't matter.

In CPR years, the playoff format will be: (We'll revert to the normal Elimination Series/LCS nomenclature in normal years)

League Quarter-Finals Series (best-of-five)
League Semi-Finals Series (best-of-five)
League Championship Series (best-of-seven)
Sunset Series (best-of-nine)

I started to make the QFS a best of 3, but...seemed more fair to make it a best of five. The division champ who isn't the top seed gets the #2 seed by default, regardless of their record.

Well, ain't this a tizzy.
I am wildly opposed to 5 teams per league making the playoffs, BUT I'm also a major hypocrite and would hate to see that bottom feeder Wolvie win another ring with an 80 win team.
So just to take the pressure off of Columbus, because I'm good like that, I'll accept the CPR and allow my Gomers to enter the playoff fray.

As always will run the postseason once all playoff team exports are in. That's always how I do it, so if they're all in sooner than Tuesday, we'll do it before then.

Playoff exports are in, so I'm going to sim the post-season tonight. Will enable us to get back on a normal schedule for this week.

Ok, going to do this. Tired from driving, so I want to get it over with and do other stuff.

Fatigue was reset to start the post-season. So at least you know that. Good luck.
