Southern Class Championship Wrestling (TEW)

SOUTHERN CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING RETURNS

The rumors have been circulating for weeks and we can now confirm that Southern Class Championship Wrestling (SCCW) will be starting up again in January 2013. Former owner and current United States Pro Wrestling (USPW) booker Shane Sneer has announced that he will be stepping down from his current role to focus on the operations of SCCW. Sneer has confirmed that he will remain on with USPW as a manager and color commentator and it’s believed that the two companies will have a close working relationship as a result.

Quote:
Here are the changes made to the default database. I reactivated SCCW as opening in January 2013 and assigned Shane Sneer as the owner. Sneer remains on a PPA contract with USPW but the booker position with them is open. I've also given Sneer a "Simmering Tension" relationship with Richard Eisen to avoid him also signing on with SWF. As a result of Sneer’s dual roles, I created a “Working Relationship” between USPW and SCCW. Once I started up, I also adjusted Sneer’s business “Pacts” from Hositle to Normal, to allow me to have working relationships and alliances with other promotions.

As for product, the default “Old School Rasslin’” style has been kept, although I upped Cult and Mainstream to Medium and dropped Hardcore to Low. This makes things much more appealing to sponsors and television while rating wrestlers equally on performance on popularity. Fans aren’t keen on gimmicks and it also gives me leeway in regards to not always having clean finishes.

Furthermore, I noted that the promotion in the default database has a default popularity rating (E-) in the Mid-South but not the South-East. I changed this up as this was a South-East promotion and reported it as an error on the forums. I gave the promotion $50,000 to start with.

I also shut off all the non-Canadian and American promotions for a speedier game. For workers in Japan and Mexico that are on written contracts, I set their status to “On Hiatus” to simulate them being presently signed to written deals elsewhere so that they can’t be picked up right away in the States.

SCCW HISTORY

Formation

Southern Championship Class Wrestling's creation was due largely in part to the famed East Coast Wars of the late 1990s, which featured a number of various promotions battling on the Atlantic coast for dominance. Shane Sneer had been working for a number of the companies involved in the battle during the time period, and as time wore on he began to realize that the southern US had gone largely ignored by most of the major companies. Knowing the rich wrestling history of the area and the thirst that fans down there always seemed to have for the sport, Sneer began working in 1996 on the idea that would eventually become SCCW.

While wrestling, particularly in the northeast US, had moved in a direction more catering towards the "smart" wrestling fan and arguably more violent and controversial than it had ever been, Sneer saw a hole in the market for a promotion that played towards the old-school wrestling fans of the 1970s, when each promotion worked their own seperate territories. Based on the idea that fans in the south still had an appetite for traditional wrestling with clearly defined heels and babyfaces feuding against each other in a family-friendly environment, Sneer began scouting talent. With the help of a few unknown sponsors as well as his own personal savings, Sneer finally opened SCCW in March of 1998.

The Early Years (1998-1999)

Sneer was correct in his notion that an old-school promotion could gain a foothold in the south, and SCCW began to grow at a rapid rate. Initially using the famed Sweat Box in Georgia as a base of operations, SCCW's fanbase quickly found a cult following in the area, based both on the product that Sneer presented as well as the roster that had been assembled. Made up of largely unknown wrestlers from the South East, SCCW quickly gained a reputation for being able to put on great arena-wide fights, but also featured a surprisingly deep tag team division.

SCCW ran their first show, The Bluegrass Brawl, in April of 1998, featuring a main event of Whistler facing off against The Gambler (Gareth Wayne) in a match that ended in a double countout, kicking off a feud that would carry SCCW through it's first year. Originally operating without any titles, SCCW crowned their first champion in July of 1998 at Rumble in the Southwhen Whistler won a battle royal for the vacant title. The first tag team champions were crowned at the beginning of the fall at School's Out, when The Tennessee Outlaws won a four team tournament for the belts. This began the unexpected rise of Blackjack Robbins, who began feuding with SCCW Champion Whistler shortly after winning the tag belts. The feud culminated with an incredibly bloody dog collar match in December at Christmas Chaos, where Robbins defeated Whistler to become the only wrestler in SCCW history to hold both titles at once.

The Glory Years (1999-2001)

SCCW continued to experience success throughout the following year, based largely on Whistler, who had been a major player in Philly Power Pro Wrestling during the East Coast Wars, but two young stars began to emerge at the turn of the century.
The first, Jesse Christian, had been on the roster since the beginning, but by 1999 he had really begun to establish himself as a viable threat to the championship. Christian began a six month program with Whistler in December of 1999 (although being that both were babyfaces, the story was set up as a "passing of the torch" rather than an actual feud) that ended with Christian winning his first SCCW championship in May of 2000 at Wrestle Bowl 2. Christian would hold the title for the next six months before finally dropping the belt to The Gambler.

The second star to come up through the SCCW ranks was "Southern Justice" Jack Griffith, a young rookie from Georgia who debuted for the company in 2000. Blessed with a mix of great athleticism, charisma, and sound wrestling skills, Sneer immediately saw a future star and began Griffith's rapid push to the top of the company. Griffith was paired with Christian to form a great tandem following Christian's SCCW Championship reign and immediately began a The Dallas Wrecking Crew over the tag straps, which Christian and Griffith would eventually win at The Last Hurrah in June of 2001. However, what made the two famous was the feud they had after Griffith turned on Christian in his quest for the SCCW Championship. Griffith proved to be a remarkably effective heel, and his bloody feud with Christian lasted throughout the remainder of the life of the company and lead to both men trading the belt back and forth.

The Decline (2001-2003)

While still quite popular in the South East, SCCW began a steady decline towards the end of 2001, due largely in part to their business model. While the territorial promotions of the 1970s had been the inspiration for Sneer's company, SCCW began to fall prey to the same pitfalls that those companies experienced decades before. Lack of expansion had caused SCCW to be a big force in the South East, but occasional shows in the Mid Atlantic and Texas drew embarrassingly small numbers due to lack of exposure of the company in those areas on television.
Also, while a tremendous booker, Sneer was not a skilled businessman, and his lack of knowledge of the business side of running a promotion lead to some poor decisions, and by mid 2002 there were rumors of dissent among the locker room due to some bounced checks. Lastly, the formation of USPW in the South East in 2001, with a product very similar to that of SCCW, began to divide the audience in the area. With a roster of much bigger stars (not the least of which was former SWF talent Jim Force), USPW's rapid growth in the area lead to a steady decline in attendance at SCCW shows.

Matters weren't helped any by the lackluster performances that the company began putting on in early 2002. Age had begun to dull Whistler's skills considerably, and his matches began to suffer as a result of the numerous nagging injuries that he was working through. Jack Griffith, who by 2002 was the undoubted star of the company and SCCW Champion, was fighting a losing battle with drugs and alcohol and hurt the company's reputation with a few high-profile no shows and sloppy performances when he did show. Jesse Christian was still in top form, but with his feud with Griffith over the title suffering due to Griffith's personal problems, Christian began to grow frustrated and his enthusiasm for the sport began to wane. By the end of 2003 the writing was on the wall, and SCCW began to slowly wind down and was quickly overtaken by USPW. The company ran it's final show exactly five years after it's first in front of a bomb scare of 67 fans.

Following the closure of SCCW, Sneer found himself a job as head booker and colour commentator for former rivals USPW, finding more joy in continuing on the legacy of SCCW without having to worry about the business end. Whistler went on to be quite successful in the old-school nirvana of New York City Wrestling, where the slower paced style put less stress on his body. Jack Griffith continued with his alcohol and drug problems following the close of SCCW, before finally cleaning up and having a run with DAVE, although he was nowhere near as good as he had been before his addictions had taken hold. Jesse Christian took the closing of SCCW particularly hard, many would say harder than Sneer himself, and hasn't been seen in the sport in five years.

Legacy

While SCCW may have only operated for a five year span, its legacy continues to show through in the sport today. USPW, the company that many say put SCCW out of business, is now one of the biggest promotions in the country with former SCCW owner Shane Sneer acting as their head booker and colour commentator. Some point to Tommy Cornell's rebuilding of TCW into a more traditional company was in part inspired by Sneer's model. Many former stars of SCCW's past have since found their way into a number of other companies following SCCW's demise, with a good number wrestling for either NYCW or Pittsburg Steel Wrestling in the Tri State area. Last but not least, Rip Chord has stated that he had numerous talks with Sneer before opening Mid Atlantic Wrestling for advice.

While not the biggest company in the world, and barely known outside of the South East, SCCW nonetheless remains a fondly remembered by fans to this day, and the five short years of operation gave thousands of families in Georgia lots of great memories.

The above look back at SCCW History comes courtesy of TEW Games Wiki, a great resource for those looking for some more history on the Cornellverse (the default game universe). Personally, I've always thought of SCCW as similar to Jim Cornette's Smoky Mountain Wrestling.

JACK GRIFFITH HIRED AS SCCW BOOKER

Shane Sneer has gone back to his past to hire the man who will run his SCCW when it launches again in 2013. “Southern Justice” Jack Griffith, the former two-time SCCW Champion, takes over as head booker of the re-born promotion. Griffith was at one time one of the hottest prospects in wrestling, debuting for SCCW in 2000. Griffith quickly became a two time champion and showcased great natural ability. Unfortunately, Griffith struggled with his new found success and alcohol problems led to a downward spiral. Griffith then disappeared from wrestling altogether for a few years. He had a brief return in 2007 with the now extinct DAVE promotion but was a shell of his former self and has been toiling around the independent scene since.

Quote:
One of the new features of TEW 2013 is the ability to now select any character as your user character, an outstanding new option in my opinion. I’ve always had a soft spot for Jack Griffith and his popularity (D) means he will be one of the biggest stars in the company. Griffith is an all-around decent Brawler who should have the ability to carry a lower level promotion.

JESSE CHRISTIAN RETURNS TO PRO WRESTLING

Former two-time SCCW Champion Jesse Christian announced that he is making his return to pro wrestling for the first time in ten years. Christian, who also held the SCCW Tag Team Championship with Jack Griffith, was the companies first signing. While not a national star by any means, the big brawler is still well revered across the South East. While fans look back fondly on the brawls that Christian and Griffith had we will have to wait and see if the two can replicate their same magic from ten years ago.

Quote:
Another database edit was removing the “On Hiatus” status from Jesse Christian. I figured that since he was “On Hiatus” due to his disillusionment over SCCW folding, that their return would be enough to bring him back. Christian does not have great popularity across the States (E-) but is popular in the South East (D). He still has good brawling skills, star power and charisma.

BLAST FROM THE PAST AS VETERANS RETURN TO SCCW

Owner Shane Sneer continues to tap into the nostalgic crowd by signing a number of SCCW veterans. Along with the previously signed Jack Griffith and Jesse Christian, sources confirm that fans can also expect to see fellow SCCW regulars Gareth Wayne, Rick Sanders, Brady Prince, Coyote Dynamite, and Elijah Harris. Wayne is better known to SCCW fans as The Gambler and is a former two-time SCCW Champion as well as being a former USPW National Champion.

Sanders is a tag team specialist, twice holding the belts as part of The Dallas Wrecking Crew with The Punisher. Sanders will be joined by his New York City Wrestling (NYCW) tag team partner, The Masked Mauler. It is believed however, that the two will wrestler under The Dallas Wrecking Crew name.

SCCW fans may not know Don “Coyote Dynamite” Richards by name or by face, however, throw a yellow and black mask on him and they will quickly recognize him as Assassin #1, one half of The Southern Assassins, former two-time SCCW Tag Team Champions. Former partner and Assassin #2, Ernie Turner, has recently retired, and it is believed that Richards’ long time independent scene partner Tim “Wiley Steinway” Steinbrenner will be joining him under the mask as Assassin #3.

Quote:
This is a fairly good crew to tie back the history of SCCW to. The biggest missing names are probably Blackjack Robbins (retired) and four time SCCW champion Whistler. I’ll probably end up signing Whistler at some point or getting him on a talent trade. Brady Prince can help develop the basic skills of some of our youngsters while Wayne (E Popularity) and Harris (E) will be used to put guys over and build them up.

I’m a fan of tag team wrestling and landing The Dallas Wrecking Crew (aka Old School Principals) and Wiley Coyote (in the form of The Southern Assassins) is good for business as both are very experienced teams and should be able to help put the younger guys over and develop their talents. I opted for bringing in Mauler instead of The Idaho Punisher due to his great locker room influence.

TALENTED YOUNGSTERS JOIN SCCW ROSTER

It won’t solely be a trip down nostalgia lane for SCCW fans as our sources can confirm that the company has signed a number of top wrestling prospects, many of them second generation wrestling stars. Two of the best are wrestling legend Sam Keith’s twenty-three year old twins sons, Matthew Keith and Greg Gauge, who we can confirm will wrestle as Greg Keith in SCCW. Matthew is better known amongst American fans while Greg has built a small following in Japan but is virtually unknown stateside. Both are well rounded talents who have the potential to be stars both in the ring and on the mic.

Two other second generation grapplers, current NYCW tag team partners, Cameron Vessey (son of Larry) and Casey Valentine (nephew of Peter), also join the fold. Like the Keith’s, both are 25 and under and have the potential to go places, able to bring it both inside and outside the squared circle.

Finally, while he may not have the bloodlines of the Keith’s, Vessey or Valentine, Steven “The Future” Parker is as well regarded as can be when it comes to wrestling’s top prospects. Parker was trained by Clifford “Dark Angel” Wilson and mentored by the legendary Rip Chord and is a former champion with both Pittsburgh Steel Wrestling (PSW) and Mid-Atlantic Wrestling (MAW). At 28, it’s a wonder that Parker has not already been snapped up by one of the big three as it seems to be only a matter of time.

Quote:
While it may be cliché to load up on some of these guys, I really like them as workers and they fit the type of talented, brawl/technician based wrestlers I’m going for in the territory. Keith, Vessey and Parker are all E+ in popularity already and will likely fill roles as main eventers and upper midcarders immediately. The cause for concern with building around some of these guys is obviously the likelihood of losing them so I need to walk a fine line in regards to pushing them to the moon too soon. I'll definitely get out of them what I can, while I can, as I don't expect to have them for too long.

FIVE MORE SIGNED TO SCCW ROSTER

Shane Sneer continues to bolster his new SCCW roster in preparation for their inaugural event in late January. The biggest name is undoubtedly indy legend and internet favorite Steve Flash. While age has caught up to the 46 year old in recent years, he remains a locker room leader and still possesses amongst the best basics in the business. He should also help brings with him a well known name to the territory.

The other four signings will help round out the tag team roster as a pair of young but experienced teams join the ranks. PSW and NYCW veterans Dean Waldorf and Marv Statler, together known as The Ring Generals, join Thimbley Langton and Wooton Fitzpain, former PSW tag champions commonly known as The Good Ol’ Boys. Both are solid young teams who only have room to grow.

Quote:
Flash is another cliché signing that I wanted to avoid but he is just too good to pass up. While he carries by far the largest salary for us at $1,880 per appearance (next closest worker is Matthew Keith at $1,090), he will be used as a road agent to save us money there. He is also one of our top guys at D popularity, has outstanding basics to develop the younger guys and is a considered a locker room leader, great for backstage morale.

Waldorf and Statler have always been one of my favorite teams, a have great experience for a pair of young guys (each 27) with above average in ring skills. They lack star power so I should be able to keep them around for awhile. The Good Ol’ Boys are the opposite, both have good camera skills but don’t have the in ring abilities of The Ring Generals. They are a solid addition to our tag division though, which is fairly stacked. I never used to be a big fan due to their poor in game renders, but I've found some alternate pics of them that I like that makes them more tolerable. Funny how user character pictures can influence you that way.

SCCW RESURRECTION SET

We can confirm that SCCW will be mark their return to wrestling for the first time in ten years with a card scheduled for this Saturday night at the home of SCCW, the famed Sweat Box in Atlanta, Georgia. While no matches have yet been announced, a number of SCCW stars are scheduled to be there including Jesse “The Power” Christian, Steve Flash and Steven “The Future” Parker. SCCW owner Shane Sneer has also promised a major announcement.

Quote:
A look at our roster heading into our first card...

Main Eventers – Steve Flash (Face), Jesse Christian (F), Jack Griffith (Heel), Steven Parker (H)

Upper Midcarders – Elijah Harris (F), Matthew Keith (F), The Gambler (H), Cameron Vessey (H)

Midcarders – Marvin Statler (F), Dean Waldorf (F), Rick Sanders (H), The Masked Mauler (H), Assassin #1 (H), Assassin #3 (H)

Lower Midcarders – Thimbley Langton (F), Wooton Fitzpaine (F), Casey Valentine (H), Brady Prince (H)

Opener – Greg Keith (F)

Teams – The Ring Generals [Waldorf/Statler], The Good Ol’ Boys [Langton/Fizpaine], C-V-2 [Vessey/Valentine] The Dallas Wrecking Crew [Sanders/Mauler], The Southern Assassins [Assassin #1/Assassin #3]

Thoughts:

Overall, a decent lineup near the top and Matthew Keith and Vessey are on the verge of being able to break through to the main event scene... I really need to find some talent that is not too old but that I think I can build around for a few years as I have real concerns that some of those stud youngsters could leave at any time. Right now, my user character Griffith is the only one that truly fits that mold... I love our tag team scene and have high hopes for good matches out of this whole crew. I particularly think that The Ring Generals can carry the division for years to come.

Quote:
The card was a decent first showing, particularly considering that we were missing some talented names such as Jack Griffith and Matthew Keith due to title tournament scheduling... Greg Keith looked excellent in the opener. I’ll continue to build him up in dark matches before “introducing” him to the crowd. He has star written all over him... Flash and Valentine had awful chemistry and as a result was quite disappointing... Sneer is solid in his role as the commissioner. I’ve been looking at who would be best to host a Piper’s Pit type format. I was leaning towards Sneer but Parker has potential as well... I think I will also need to add an announcer for in ring and backstage interviews, ala Stampede’s Ed Whalen and Mean Gene Okerlund. I didn’t have an announcer to save on money (as one is not required unless on TV or PPV) but I like those segments too much to go without... Overall in January, we made $11,482 on the show... Our popularity stayed at E- in the South East (but did grow from as 22 to a 23).

JANUARY NEWS AND NOTES

SCCW continue to add to their roster with the addition of Kentucky Bill, a Rhode Island Pro Wrestling (RIPW) regular who looks to fill a development role with SCCW.

Supreme Wrestling Federation (SWF) remain the largest wrestling company in the world and have risen to International popularity.

SWF signed three high profile prospects in NYCW's Roger Cage, Freedom Championship Wrestling's (FCW) Mainstream Hernandez and Donnie J of Combat Zone Championship Wrestling (CZCW).

Mean Jean Cattley defeated Citizen X to capture MAW's VIII Rip Chord Invitational Championship.

Quote:
I don't normally go for Kentucky Bill but there was a news item on the website that pegged him as someone to watch, couple that with his name and I figured I would take a shot on him... The Cage and Hernandez signings weren't surprising as SWF snaps them up at the start of almost every game, but Donnie J was a bit surprising and is a big loss of CZCW.

USPW STARS SET TO APPEAR IN SCCW

With the close ties between USPW and SCCW thanks to Shane Sneer's involvement with both organizations, there was bound to be some occasions when we would see stars from both groups crossing over.

Those that follow USPW will have seen Matthew Keith and Steven Parker on their recent shows and we can confirm that the first USPW stars will be stepping foot in the SCCW ring later this February.

Those three are "The Insurance Policy" Charlie Thatcher, Running Wolf and the highly touted Darryl Devine. All three should really help to give a boost to the star power of the SCCW roster.

In addition to those three, the SCCW roster has been bolstered by the signings of "Hawaiian Thunder" Clark Alexander as well as the young tag team pairing of Jackpot Jordan and Jake Idol, known collectively as Rich and Famous. From what we're told, Alexander will work a gimmick known as Magnum C.A.

Quote:
Notes: I'm somewhat limited by the name value of the guys that I can bring in from USPW if I'm wanting them to put my guys over. Hopefully, Thatcher (D+), Wolf and Devine (both D) are willing to do the job to guys slightly less popular... At D+ popularity, Alexander is amongst our most over guys on the roster and is a fairly good technical wrestler who lacks star quality... Rich and Famous are a decent young tag team out of CZCW that I can use as faces and hopefully build up.

SCCW's FEBRUARY CARD LOADED WITH TALENT

In addition to the three big USPW names confirmed earlier as being in attendance at the SCCW event at the end of this month, a number of big names from throughout the wrestling industry will also be present for a star packed card.

A recent alliance formed between SCCW, Puerto Rico's Freedom Championship Wrestling (FCW) and Pittsburgh Steel Wrestling (PSW) means that former two-time PSW Champion and indy icon Johnny Martin will be a part of the sixteen man SCCW title tournament. That's not all however, as former FCW Puerto Rican Champion Handsome Stranger will also be a part of the event.

Finally, NYCW's Black Hat Bailey is also scheduled to appear and take part in the tournament, which has seen Steve Flash, Steven Parker and Jesse Christian already advance to the elite eight.

Quote:
I was playing around with the alliances and joined the default Confederation of the Territories (COTT) before resigning from them. I didn't realize the game was on autosave and thus was not allowed to rejoin them. As such, I formed a new alliance with PSW and FCW that I think is a pretty good group while also having working relationships now with MAW and NYCW.

Quote:
Notes: A good show, carried by our top two matches. Unfortunately, two of those guys are done after tonight... Credit to the USPW trio of Devine, Stranger and Thatcher for all doing the job without any complaints... The Hillbillys were signed to a one show contract as a way of putting over a younger team while The Deadly Alliance, including former UCCW worker The Idaho Punisher, were loaned from PSW for the same purpose... Cameron Vessey pulled double duty as I was running an un-announced eight team tag tournament but I think I will just go with a four team announced tournament in the future... We jumped a level in popularity in the South East, from E- to an E. Once we can get up to an E+, hopefully by the end of the year, we should move from a 'Small' promotion to a 'Regional'.

FEBRUARY NEWS AND NOTES

It was not good news financially for SCCW this past month as rumors have them losing approximately $15,000 last month on their star studded card.

Likewise it was not good news for USPW who saw their recognition in the wrestling world fall from National to Cult status. After rising to International status last month, SWF also saw their popularity decline this past month as they fell to National status.

Quote:
Notes: I lost $15,553, although I was figuring I would lose that much since the cost of the three USPW stars was $17,000 and I brought in a few other workers on top of that. Unfortunately, while they all did the job, my guys didn't get nearly the boost in popularity that I was hoping for and the cost was nowhere worth it. I should be able to get this number under control in time.

Notes: A pretty good card with three 'C' level matches, although I was hoping for at least a 'C' grade overall, especially considering we had our top 7 guys (and Johnny Martin) going head to head in singles matches... The angles we are running seem to be pulling down the overall product slightly as the fans are digging the matches a lot more than the angles... The Latino Kings were brought in on a loan to do the job... Greg Keith continues to tear things up while jobbing in dark matches, his push will come when we wrap up this title tournament... Our popularity stayed at an 'E', although grew from 24 to 25.

MARCH NEWS AND NOTES

After a disastrous month financially in February for upstart SCCW, our sources indicate that they managed to break even in March with their Southern Comfort show.

SWF made a big splash, signing away current USPW World Champion Nicky Champion. Universally, recognized as one of the biggest stars in America, the signing of Champion is a huge coup for SWF and also signifies a major loss for USPW, who were already reeling from a popularity drop earlier this year. As a result, Champion recently dropped the USPW belt to Chris Caufield.

Canadian Golden Combat (CGC) was busy with signings in the month of March, inking former SWF and current PSW worker Greg Black, also known as Groucho Bling, to an exclusive written deal while also tying up Canadian prospects Jacob Jett and Jamie Atherton to exclusive contracts.

North of the Border Pro Wrestling (NOTBPW) held their 15th annual Ed Henson Memorial Tag Team Cup, with the team of Duane Stone and Dan Stone Jr. coming away victorious. While it was their third and fourth titles respectively, it was their first coming as a team.

Quote:
We would have done a lot better if we would have ran at the Sweat Box instead of the Florida show, which cost us about $4000 in ticket revenue and would not have been a major upgrade in facility cost... We did manage to cut worker costs by $17,000 and those will drop even more without Martin and The Latino Kings... The Champion loss is huge for USPW and I thought he would be pretty safe due to his mentor/protege relationship with owner Sam Strong.

Notes: Another solid card... Griffith and Keith could make for a great storyline. I've got other plans for both of them in the near future and hopefully Keith sticks around long enough to make it happen... Handsome Stranger has been brought back on loan from FCW for a short run with Matthew Keith... Batch is a new signing and our first manager signed to the roster. He'll need to perform a bit better to get this storyline over... A great match from two young teams to open the live show and I was quite happy with the result, Cameron Vessey is main event material but I'm holding him back for a bit at the moment... Popularity remained at an 'E' but grew from 25 to 26, I think I'm going to start running two shows a month to get things up quicker.

APRIL NEWS AND NOTES

SCCW was back in the black financially in April thanks to a stellar sold out show recently and it's believed they took in close to $10,000 for the month.

It was a noteworthy month outside the ring with SCCW wrestlers elsewhere, as Marv Statler walked out and quit on NYCW due to payment issues while Matthew Keith was a no-show for PSW's April card for still unknown reasons.

It was a busy month roster wise for NYCW, who grew to Regional status but fell quickly to Small. They signed a number of indy wrestlers including Kashmir Singh, Rudy Velasquez, Greg Keith, The Silencer, Nelson Callum and Kirk Jameson.

Quote:
Notes: It was a good month financially with the return to The Sweat Box in Atlanta and the sell out crowd... I'll probably be bringing some guys in for short runs with the Carl Batch storyline so that could up the worker costs a bit going forward... A number of the guys that NYCW targeted are on my watch list and could warrant consideration once the Keith's, Vessey, Parker, etc. move on.

Notes: This was the smaller show that we are going to try running monthly and was a lead in for Wrestle Bowl at the end of the month... A pretty good overall card considering it was run on the cheap without a few of our bigger veterans such as Griffith, Magnum C.A. and Steve Flash...Keith and Parker clearly carried the card and have big things in their future... Even though it was with Steven Parker, Kentucky Bill impressed with a solid performance... The Carl Batch storyline continues to frustrate me and hopefully will start getting a better reaction once we involve some workers... Our popularity remained at an 'E' but once again grew from a 27 to a 28.

Quote:
Notes: Wrestle Bowl is our big show, and thus the extended length. I felt that the card seemed kind of cluttered and was a bit disappointing but in the end, the overall grade turned out strong... Matthew Keith managed to drag even Hell's Bouncer to a very good match. Kudos to him for that effort... Eric Tyler put on a pretty good performance. I thought I brought him in for only a single appearance but it turns out I've signed him for a couple years. I'll milk his popularity for a bit before I cut him, at over $2000 per appearance he's just not worth it... Parker continues to impress and at a D+, is tied with Griffith for being the most popular guy on the roster... Griffith, my character, continues to put on solid main events and I'm trying to drag things out before the eventual showdowns with our young stars... Popularity is still at an E but jumped to a 29 and is due for a jump right away. We should be up to Regional size soon.

MAY NEWS AND NOTES

It was another positive month financially for SCCW, who were said to have taken in approximately $6,000 between their two shows they ran in May.

Veteran Steve Flash got into the ownership business with the startup Lethal Ring promotion out of Hawaii. Through their first month, L-Ring appears to be a cutting edge product that focuses on athletic, fast paced matches.

Quote:
Final numbers for the month were a profit of $5,710. Worker costs jumped up $16,000 because of that extra show while the show costs jumped up $2500. These were somewhat offset by the additional $12,000 in ticket revenue. I also adjusted my merchandise production, which upped costs by $1500 but increased revenue by $5000. I'm still somewhat torn on whether the extra show is worth it or not, but at this point, as long as I'm not losing money, I think I'll run with it.

Notes: Another filler show leading up to School's Out at the end of the month... A good showing by Jordan and Idol in the two main event matches... Popularity finally grew from an 'E' to an E+ and one or two more shows should be enough to bump us up from 'Small' to 'Regional'...Lisa Bowen and Casey Valentine developed a relationship in NYCW, as such, I decided to pick her up for the backstage aspect along with the fact that she has decent potential.

Notes: Another good card, carried by our stars, Griffith, Parker and Matthew Keith... Greg Keith was finally introduced on the main card with the save of his brother, and while he's not at the popularity yet of Matthew (D) he is good enough (E) to be involved in angles with him and should continue to climb quickly... While it didn't go over great with the crowd, I loved that Eric Tyler promo in my mind and that's one of those things that I think would have went over great in a real life scenario that you just can't duplicate in TEW... While I continue to put Jesse Christian over guys, I just can't get his popularity up and may need to go a different direction with him...The East-West Connection are a pair of new signings, Frantic Ali and Sayeed Ali, two brawlers with good camera skills. While they have no Cornellverse relation, their gimmick is cousins from opposite coasts and they should expect a decent push... Our popularity is up to an 'E+' (32) and we've jumped from Small to Regional. It may be time soon to start branching outside the South-East if we want to continue to grow in size... The American Wrestling Alliance, unlike COTT, does not have any restrictions about running shows in another promotions home territory.

In a bout that had a good crowd and good action, Magnum C.A. and Rich And Famous defeated Southern Justice (Cameron Vessey, Casey Valentine and Jack Griffith) in 18:10 when Jake Idol defeated Casey Valentine by pinfall. During the match we also had Lisa Bowen accidentally hit Cam Vessey. (C)

FINAL GRADE: C-

Quote:
Heizenger (better known as Ant-Man) and KC Glenn are a pair of youngsters brought in for development purposes, both have decent upside and may work some tag matches first... If it wasn't already clear by him jobbing out in back to back matches on the pre-show, this was The Gambler's last appearance in SCCW and he was given his walking papers. He was a very negative influence backstage so it's nice to send him packing... Good performance by the recently signed East-West Connection (Frantic Ali/Sayeed Ali) in the opening match... The Steven Parker Legend Killer storyline continues to be a solid program... The show was hurt by having six of our top guys tied up in the main event and then another top two (Matthew Keith and Parker) not wrestling... The show increased our popularity from a 32 to a 33.

Quote:
Very happy with this show led by the three solid matches to finish off the top of the card... I actually meant to have Steven Parker go over Flash but messed that up when I booked it, Parker shouldn't have too much trouble getting his heat back though... Akima Brave finally pulled a good match out of Christian and hopefully this Samoan Wildboyz vs. Christian feud can help improve that storyline... The Midnight Riders team are the aforementioned KC Glenn and Johnny Heizenger... The show marked the last appearance of Elijah Harris, who was let go at the conclusion. He also comes with a negative attitude so it was good riddance to him... The show raised our popularity from a 33 to a 34... To jump from 'Regional' to 'Cult' we need 'Importance' of D+ (48) in two regions, so I'll probably start running a few more regions here shortly with our Saturday Night Special cards.

JUNE & JULY NEWS AND NOTES

SCCW owner Shane Sneer and USPW owner Sam Strong have been rumored to have recently had a falling out. Sneer, who was still managing and working as a color commentator, recently walked out on USPW and it is believed that he will focus solely on his SCCW ownership role. It is unknown how this will affect the relationship between the two companies.

Speaking of SCCW, June was a very profitable month for them, to the tune of over $16,000. July was said to be much less profitable, with the company taking in just over $3,500.

Total Championship Wrestling (TCW) appears to be in cost saving mode, as they recently failed to re-sign former 4-time All Action Champion Freddy Huggins and former 3-time Tag Team Champion Guide, one half of New Wave with Scout, who were named Pro Wrestling Illustrated's 2012 Tag Team of the Year. They join former SWF 4-time tag team champion Bart Biggins as the biggest free agents out there and it shouldn't take long for any of them to find work.

Mid Atlantic Wrestling held the third annual Sam Keith Classic tag team tournament, with the team of Cameron Vessey and Casey Valentine capturing the title for the second time in three years.

Quote:
Worker costs killed us in July and were the biggest difference in costs between the two months... If I start running shows outside the South East, our finances could drop slightly... The Sneer development was interesting but doesn't seem to have affected our 'Working Relationship' with USPW... A few big free agents out there but Biggins is out of the question as a cruiserweight due to my owner goals, Huggins and Guide could be possibilities though I'd be surprised if they don't get snapped up elsewhere relatively soon.

Quote:
We make our Mid-Atlantic debut with a surprisingly decent show in front of a disappointing turnout... Expanding into other territories could be costly and we will probably have to scale back the show quality and worker costs quite a bit...It will probably mean lots of Jack Griffith too as I cost nothing for each show... Eric Tyler has been offered a written contract with USPW and with him (likely) on the way out, was written out of the Legend Killer storyline... Popularity in the Mid-Atlantic rose from an F- to an F (5 to 6).

Quote:
Notes: Solid card and Matthew Keith continues to only get better, he`s penciled in for a program shortly with Jack Griffith... Overall there was not too much going on outside of the Keith`s storyline... While the tag division is stacked, I need to find some direction with it... Popularity has increased in the South East to a 36 (D-).

AUGUST NEWS AND NOTES

It was a good month financially for SCCW, despite their dismal showing in Maryland, as they took in just over $6,000.

The two biggest free agents in wrestling found their way on to rosters quickly as USPW snapped up Freddy Huggins while former TCW tag champion Guide signed on with SCCW.

SCCW was busy with more signings, as they are believed to be bringing in a number of veteran wrestlers, including Mean Jean Cattley, Sgt. Bubba Lee West, Honest Frank, Dean Daniels, Jimmy Cox, Dazzling Dave Diamond, Antonio Del Veccio and Henry Bennett. Meanwhile, they also announced the release of Assassin #1 and Elijah Harris.

Quote:
Notes: So I think the expansion into other regions this early was a bomb and as a result, I'm going with a different technique... I'm going to try and hold four weekly shows a month, three small size and one medium size show, all in the South East. I'll try and limit the workers on the small shows and use them as an avenue for pushing the guys I like and developing the storylines for the main event... This is the reason for the number of veteran signings, most of whom will be used in developmental roles as jobbers... When Huggins got signed up, I immediately made an offer to Guide, hoping to beat USPW to the punch with the idea that he might not sign elsewhere if he has signed recently with me. Honestly though, he's quite a bit more over (C popularity) than anyone else on our roster and I'm not sure how I'm going to use him yet.

(D+) Greg Keith and Matthew Keith hit the ring and destroy Handsome Stranger. They tell him that they are sick and tired of him running his mouth and that they'll gladly accept the challenger later this month. (D-)

Quote:
That tag team match tore the house down and Matthew Keith is on a role lately, consistently involved in the best match on the card... The card was fairly underwhelming otherwise but we broke even and gained a slight amount of popularity, so it was a win that way.

Quote:
Another very solid show, this time carried by an outstanding performance in the main event by Steven Parker... With some extra time to work with, I'm trying to flush out the tag team picture a bit more now and give these guys a bit more of an opportunity... We lost just over $2,000 on this show... If we can keep the losses for the three small shows under $5,000, I think we can make enough between the big show and sponsorship to more than cover our losses... Popularity is up to a 38 (D-) and we hit our next level when we get to 42.

Quote:
Notes: Not a great show heading into Gimme Shelter in one week... A lack of Parker and Keith really hurts... Sgt. Bubba Lee West developed a new 'very negative influence' attitude before the show, so he's gone after the card and thus why he was jobbed out, which is too bad as he put on a very good performance... This also led to a low backstage rating, likely affecting the show grades slightly... Whistler is on loan from NYCW for a very short program with Griffith... The show managed to boost our popularity to a 39.

Notes: A really good overall card in which everyone performed up to their capabilities... Bulldozer Brandon Smith has added some life to this Christian-Samoans program and hopefully can help it pick things up a bit... Great performance from all three of those young tag teams in the triple threat match... The Midnight Riders (KC Glenn/Johnny 'Ant-Man' Heizenger) are gold and in line for a big push... I didn't expect much out of Whistler, unfortunately, he's well past his prime but this was filler as Griffith transitions on to his next real battle... With the win, Parker has now 'retired' Steve Flash... Our popularity grew to a 40.

SEPTEMBER NEWS AND NOTES

Another wrestling promotion opened its doors this past month as long time manager Carl Batch founded Phoenix Wrestling Company out of the Tri State area. PWC plans to offer a hardcore product. It's not believed that Batch's ownership role will interfere with his managerial work elsewhere.

Legend Sam Strong officially retired from professional wrestling. In a surprising move, the long time owner did not transfer the company over to his daughter Alicia Strong and rather sold it off to long time independent wrestler Dean Daniels.

Beloved indy wrestler Mickey James finally made the jumps to the big leagues, signing a written deal with USPW.

SCCW is said to have turned a profit of just over $8,500 running four shows in the month of September and continue to rise in popularity.

Quote:
Notes: The four shows were great for popularity growth and we made a small amount of money. I may try and alter the format somewhat moving forward though, as we need to start lining our coffers a bit more.

A new format for October with a longer B-type show while our main guys will go head to head at the end of the month show... With that said, this turned into our highest rated show yet as Matthew Keith's star continues to rise... I have big expectations for the Tag Title bout at the end of the month thanks to the two singles performances from this show... Steven Parker is going to be working a new program and it should be very interesting... Popularity grew to a 42, this was also enough to bump us up to a 17 in the Mid-Atlantic and Puerto Rico and a 5 in the Tri State area.

Thoughts: Another solid show with the two young tag teams delivering... This is progressing to a Matthew Keith vs. Jack Griffith storyline and with Greg Keith and C-V-2 also involved, I expect some big things... Pistol Pete Hall is not the Parker program that I was referencing earlier but he will be playing a part in it... Dissapointing match from The Ring Generals and Rich and Famous, both are face tag teams and that may have pulled the grade down... The show bumped our popularity up to a 43.
