THE most rushing yards, tied for 10th best ypc
17th most passing yards, tied for 5th most yards per
2nd fewest rushing yards allowed, tied for 9th fewest ypc allowed
18th most passing yards allowed, tied for 4th fewest yards per
51 sacks, led the league, 27 sacks allowed, 2nd fewest
+22 TO margin, tops in league

It’s a shame we didn’t make it father. We rocked sacks on both ends, TOs, rushing, defense, etc.

Team Awards:

Offensive Player of the Year: OG Neil Lee. He came back and got another All Pro with a solid season. Just 2 sacks allowed. Thanks Lee!

Defensive Player of the Year: LB Craig Zuchowski. 6.5 sacks, led the team in tackles, most sacks in a non-DE position, great pasdef. This guy was great this year.

Special Teams Player of the Year: K Tito Shultz - I did not expect him to get All Pro. Huh.

Rookie of the Year: RB Jake Duffy. That’s just awesome. The stats might appear similar to previous players like Carlisle, but I can tell a difference in the games and the stats.

Heart Award: UFA CB Brent O’Donnell. He had three picks and was Game MVP once. That’s quality work from a UFA. I was close between him and QB Squires.

Players Leaving of Note:

S Derek Long
QB Alonzo Squires
QB Johnny Hernandez
CB Brent O’Donnell

A magazine has asked me to list my top ten players I have drafted during my career. Here is the list:

10. DE Bert Curtain - My favorite player. A guy who over performs every year, and has gotten a lot of awards. He’s a workman like star and I love him.

9. C Marty Brennan - Initially drafted as a backup, but boomed in camp and over the next several years as a starter. I’ve had a lot of All Pro level Cs, but none as good as Marty Brennan.

8. LB Quinn Burroughs - I’ve had a lot of bad luck with linebackers, so getting a great one finally was so worthwhile. I loved him.

7. RB Heath Shepherd - I’ve had more success with RB than any other position through the years. My roster of RB reads like a Who’s Who list of the best RB of all time. Shepherd, one of the first greats ones I drafted myself, put Albuquerque on the map.

6. DT Ross Meadows - It’s easy to look back and see how he was great, but he was the 1/2 selection for a franchise that became the foundation for a team. Ross was one of the greats.

5. TE Ed Gardener - I love Ed. He is still, to this day, one of my all time favorite players. This guy could produce.

4. RB Grady Pender - Just a step above Shepherd, he was amazing for years and years. My absolutely best of the best.

3. CB Leon Morabito - Proof that BAP is a good drafting strategy. He was terrific, non-stop, terrific. I’ve had a lot of All Pro corners, and several HoF ones, but Morabito was just lights out amazing.

2. QB Tony Clements - In my long career, I have drafted exactly one QB who got All Pro. Tony Clements went to the playoffs every year of his career. Imagine that on your football resume. Every year of his career.

1. WR Marvin Graham. He dominated like no other player has dominated their position before or since. Two of his season bests will stand forever - 142 receptions, 2114 yards, 16 TD, 2008, San Antonio. Simply untouchable. Graham was an institution. I’d regret the trade of RB Troy Santoro more but I got Graham from it.

I extend P Russell Kelly’s deal by two years.

That was an easy decision to make.

I extend LB Martinez by two years and FB Kramer too,

Those were easier.

I trade OT Terrell Casarez to the Steelers for their 2nd next year, and 5th this one. He never had a good year for me in three years of starting. He wasn‘t even close.

That was an easy trade. Now the rest are problems.

OG Holliday is in his 11th year. It’s time to drop him. Yet, there is a sentimental reason to keep him. I love him. 4 all pros, and if I can just squeeze one more. Besides, I don’t have a replacement on the roster. If I am going to cut Holliday, I want to know that I can get a strong replacement.

I am going to take no action on Holliday through the draft. Let’s see what happens there.

I was close, but I decided to keep Pete Waddle, and gave him a four year deal overwriting his rookie one. That was not an easy decision.

I trade DT Claude Stewart to the Lions for their 2/18 pick. Stewart is pretty good and had two fine years for me at DT but I have coverage if I let him go, he’s in the final year, and he’s not worth starting DT $$.

I trade DE Marshall Jones to the Colts for their 2/14 pick this year. Jones is starter quality nice.

With that trade in hand, I extend DE Floyd Gardner by two years. In 6 years as a starter, he has never had less than 11 sacks. That is production.

I hold off on decisions on Dudzik and Curtain for now.

Nah, I make an offer to Curtain. 2 year extension. I can’t let him go.

Week 17 - I sign S Derek Long to a three year deal.

I trade FB Emmanuel Kramer to the Cowboys for their 4th rounder next year.

I cannot sign CB Dudzik to a new contract right now, not enough cap room.

We pick 34 in each round.

I take a look at FA:

UFA OT Vince Strobel, Colorado
UFA OT Walt Marshall, Baylor
UFA DE Mel Cline, Oregon State

I still have two unresolved issues - CB Dudzik and OG Holliday.

Now, if I want, I could use one to resolve the other. I could cut Holliday and use the cap space to sign Dudzik to a longer deal.

But I don’t like that too much. I don’t want to be forced into a bad deal. Plus, I only have one year of Dudzik as a starter, and although he was fine last year, I want another year. I can sing him next year as an RFA. No push there. Therefore, these do not need to be tied together.

Geoff Lofton and Kyle Steussie are too green right now to start. Therefore, Holliday is my best current option.

Holliday wants a three year deal. I agree.

Now we can start him this year and see what happens next.

Let’s look around at FA.

K Tito Schultz is in his 16th year, and last year was his first as an All Pro with me. He eroded a bit though. He’s just a patch until I find my next Olindo Mare or Levon Quinn or Christian Huffman, etc.

DE Gardner has eroded a bit. Curtain has too.

C Les Morris looks like he got a little bit stronger

OT Chris George could be my first OT with an All Pro season in a long time. This guy looks hot.

This is a very developed team. Ackerman, Dudzik, Long, Prescott, Martinez, Zuchowski, Scott, Curtain, Gardner, Phil Jefferson at DT are 10 virtually all red starters out of 11 on defense. On offense, RB Duffy, Kramer, Carman, Waddle, Doucette, Morris, Holliday, Lee, and Poston are. 9 out of 11. The only players with a need to develop are my rookie OT George and my QB still is about 3 years from being fully filled, but he’s looking pretty strong right now.

At some point in time I am going to have to explode my team. I will have Grady High and Jake Duffy come available for resigning and their professional contracts will dominate the team much like Pender and Mayes did. Pender and Mayes would have about 55 million in just those two annually. Other position starters could have anywhere from 8 to 16 million annually, so you can fit a lot of players in. Since both High and Duffy were first rounders, I still have some time. I won’t have to resign High until 3036 and Duffy for 3037.

The best FA right now are my own. OG Isaac Rice, C Marcus Gunn, QB Alonzo Squires, and TE Troy Briscoe.

I was hoping for a stud K. Nope. A stud C and a stud P, but nothing in the K area.

A few years ago I said that draft was one of the best I had had. Let’s take a look back and see it’s impact, and if I was right or wrong.

This is my 2028 Draft Class:

CB Jim Ackerman, 58/90 - Awesome!
RB Butch Carlson, 58/86 - Totally worth the BAP pick
S Derek Long, 47/86 - Glad I pickeded him.
LB Sedrick Rhinehart, 43/79 - Not bad for a position of need in the 1st.
DT Raymond Stargell, 40/71 - Allowed me to trade Allen
QB Jesse Floyd, 42/62 - Solid
TE Gary Geer, 34/62 - Not as good as this number says
OT Marco Goguen, 13/60 - Tres verte
WR Eugene Jonas, 56/59 - Like I said, already very developed
WR Greg Wilkins, 38/46 - Okay at best
LB Cory Battle, 8/40 - Amazingly green

We saw Carlson do well before we moved him. Ackerman and Long are fixtures at their positions but only Ackerman dominates. We started Jonas, Goguen and Rhinehart for several years each, but none were smashing.

Therefore, the potential of the draft was not what I thought. We got two starters. I’ve gotten two HOF players before. (Like Ed Gardener and Leon Morabito). Two starters, one of which is one of the best players in the league at his spot and the other is solid but not that great. That’s not amazing. Carlson could have pushed us over the top, but when I slid from Pender, I had a few years of revolving RB before Duffy landed in my lap.

1 - DT Joey Springer, Missouri
2/15 - DE Floyd Gardner, Montana
2/33 - C Steven Marshall, Mississippi
2/36 - FB Tracy Kramer, Air Force.
3/5 - S Troy Gracia, North Carolina State
3/30 - OT Roger Fisher, Florida State
3/33 - OG Neil Lee, Washington State
4/6 - QB Wade Grant, North Carolina A&T
4/33 - RB JR Barnes, Ohio State
5/30 - LB Lionel Garcia, Furman
5/33 - C Wayne Collier, Michigan State
6/5 - WR Herman Alston, Pittsburgh
6/8 - LB Ted Parliman, Mississippi State
6/33 - CB Winston Snyder, California - KR/PR too
7 - TE Jack Giron, West Virginia University

You’ll note that Gardner, Kramer and Lee are all still on my team, and all have professional contracts. Kramer has countless All Pro seasons and Lee has had several. All three of those were drafted after the 1st round, showing I don’t get all of my starters by collecting a lot of firsts. Joey Springer started for me for several years, then I moved him and moved on.

The draft one year earlier had Brant Carman.

Anyway, back to my team

The 3034 Huntington Highlanders

QB Grady High - Third Years a charm?
RB Jake Duffy - The next great one
FB Tracy Kramer - Yay! FIVE 1st Team All Pros in a row. Geez.
TE Brant Carman - Returning from All Pro last year, his 5th too.
WR Pete Waddle - Needs to regain form, please. Thanks!
WR Ricky Doucette - Icky year last year.
C Les Morris - Pick it up!
OG Bruce Holliday - Now in his 11th year. Could this be his final year as a starter for me? Late career All Pro?
OG Neil Lee - Aging as well but was All Pro last year.
OT Will Poston - Developed and ready for a good season
OT Chris George - No kidding, this rook has the potential to be the best OT I’ve ever drafted
P Russell Kelly - Awesometastic
K Tito Shultz - Adequate but fresh off first All Pro in 16 seasons
DE Bert Curtain - Wonders Never Cease. How about a 6th All Pro for your Abe in your 11th year
DE Floyd Gardner - 8th year, solid stats, but never one truly horrifically good year
DT Sammie Kennedy - Meh
DT Phil Jefferson - Solid
LB Joseph Martinez - At some point you need to prove something to me.
LB Craig Zuchowski - Strong, but again, needs a breakout year to sell me on a professional contract
LB Alonzo Scott - Alons-y Alonzo!
CB Jim Ackerman - Fresh off 4th All Pro
CB Charlie Dudzik - More good years please.
S Derek Long - In 7th year with no All Pros, averages 4 picks a year over 6 years.
S Jon Prescott - Averages 6 picks a year over 5 years, also no All Pros.

KR/PR - CB Gabe Harpold and WR Pete Waddle

16th best OG
15th best OT
2nd best P
4th best K
13th best DE

We finish the preseason at 3-1 but S Derek Long is out for 2=-3 months with a broken hand. I IR him. Moe Collins will be starting.

I have other injuries, like Phil Jefferson, Ackerman, Les Morris and Ricky Doucette, but all are going to start in the season opener.

Our schedule is pretty give and take, with no major streaks.

Week 1 - We defeat the Bucs on the road 30-13. RB Duffy is Game MVP with 154 yards 29 carries 1 TD. Grady High went 21 of 28, 231, 2:0, hitting Doucette and Kramer for scores. Prescott, Ackerman and rookie nickelback CB Floyd Matthews have picks. 5 KRB by Neil Lee.

CB Dudzik is injured post-game and Ackerman pushed his injury to questionable. LB Scott is questionable as well. Doucette is probable and Wesley Tuisosopo is questionable. S Moe Collins is probable. Lots of injuries.

Week 2 - We lose on the road against the Vikes 35-38. Duffy held to 65 yards and a score. Doucette and Van DeWege catch scores. Matthews with another pick. Tracy Kramer ran for a 2 pt conversion. Harpold had an 89 yard KR RET TD.

Week 3 - 28-24 at our place over the Titans. QB Grady High is MVP with 20 of 28, 306, 2:0. He hit Waddle and Vila (backup TE) for scores. Duffy has just 19 carries for 79 yards and a score. Waddle also caught a 2 pt conversion.

Week 4 - We go on the road and lose at Pittsburgh 15-30. DE Floyd Gardner is out for 2-3 months with a broken foot. His abilities drop a bit. Harvey Cox will be starting in his place. Harpold had a 102 yard KR RET TD. Waddle caught a TD while Doucette caught a 2 pt conversion. Duffy held to 37 yards on 14 carries. Martinez with a pair of sacks.

Ugly.

Week 5 - We host the Jags. And LOSE. Damn. 17-23. Duffy is held to 19 yards. Damn. Okay guys, time to stop bumping around. High is knocked around and Winslett plays a few quarters. Van DeWege grabs a score. Moe Collins with a pick.

Week 6 - We host the Bengals and win 21-10 to go to 3-3 on the season. Game MVP is Prescott with 2 picks. Derek Cox records 2 sacks. De Bert Curtain collects a fumble and runs it 78 yards for a score. Duffy and Waddle catch High scores. Duffy has 69 yards on 23 carries.

Week 7 - BYE

Week 8 - We host and edge the Steelers 24-21. Prescott is again Game MVP with a pick. Duffy - 88 yards, 29 carries, 1 score. High hits Wesley T for a score but tosses two picks. Curtain with 1.5 sacks, Phil Jefferson too, OT Poston with 7 KRB. Wow. Jefferson has a fumrec run for 46 yards and a SCORE.

Week 9 - We hit the Jags in their place 45-16 and Duffy is Game MVP with 26 carries, 145 yards, 1 score. High went 18 of 26, 234, 4:0. He hit Waddle, Wesley T, Carman and Duffy for score.s Prescott with apick and Cox with 2 more sacks. Jefferson recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for another score.

Week 10 - We host Denver and win 38-3. Duffy is MVP with 26, 126, 2. High hits Wesley T for a score and Van DeWege for 107 yards on 6 catches. Bradley has 1.5 sacks. Curtain and Jefferson with fumrec each.

Week 11 - Our winning streak ends as we lose 19-9 in Cincinnati. Duffy held to 52 yards. High tosses 3 picks - ouch.

S Derek Long is healthy and will be starting next week.
C Les Morris has a broken jaw and is out until the playoffs. Abilities dropped too. Suck.

Week 12 - We lose on the road against the Titans 10-13. Duffy had 21 for 113 and a scor.e Derek Long has our sole pick. No sacks. High held to under 100 yards passing and just 8 completion. OG Lee with 4 KRB.

We are just 6-5 and a long way from the playoffs. This could be the first time we miss in a while.

Week 13 - Tito Schulz kicks a FG with 5 seconds on the clock in our place to win 10-7 against the Packers. Duffy is MVP with 32, 68, 1. No picks, no sacks.

LB Zuchowski is doubtful and is benched.

At 7-5, we are tied with the 7-5 Titans, 7-5 Bengals, and below the 8-4 Steelers and the 9-3 Jaguars. Wow.

Week 14 - We win the road against the Ravens 13-12. Duffy is Game Mvp with 25, 101, 1. High is knocked out and Winslett plays most of the game. 2 picks, but hits Hicks for a score. Pick by Dudzik. Lee had 4 KRB.

Week 15 - We take out the Raiders on the road 20-13. LB martinez is Game MVP with 1 sack, 14 tackles. Duffy - 27, 111. High hits Duffy and Van DeWege. Long with a pick. We are now tied with 3 other teams at 9-5 for the AFC Central crown.

Week 16 - We host the Patriots. And lose. 13-23. Every other team in the AFC Central wins. Duffy - 23, 33. Doucette has 133 yards on 7 catches. Wesley T with a score.

There are two 9-6 teams in the AFC West, so we will almost certainly miss the playoffs this year, barring a miracle.

Week 17 - We host and defeat the 4 win Ravens 14-10. Ackerman is Game MVP with 2 picks. Duffy - 19, 54. High hits Doucette and Waddle.

We finish 10-6. Get this…

There are FIVE AFC teams at 10-6 fighting for the three wild card spots. We get one.

Offensive Player of the Year: OG Neil Lee - Had another solid year with 28 KRB and 5 sacks allowed. Good job!

Defensive Player of the Year: S Jon Prescott - With 5 picks, led team in picks and was the only player to really have any game in the coverage of receivers.

Special Teams Player of the Year: CB/KR Gabe Harpold - Definitely a shining star of the year and had a really great season.

Rookie of the Year: OT Chris George- Allowed just 5sacks but only had 10 KRB, so there is plenty of room for growth.

Heart Award: CB Floyd Matthews - As a really green rookie nickel back, has a solid campaign and got 2 picks in the playoff game against Denver. Thanks Floyd!

Free Agency:

4 trade offers

1/18 for Jake Duffy
1/3 + great C for Grady High
4/24 for Les Morris
6/29 for FB Tracy Kramer

The only one I consider it the trade for Duffy after last year, but I’ll stay the course.

I have 22 million under the cap.

I sign Craig Zuchowski to a three year extension. We’ll give him a mulligan from last year.

I extend Jon Prescott by two years

I extend K Tito Schulz by a year

TE Brant Carman is not interested in extending his contract.

I trade QB William Winslett to the Bengals for their 2/20 pick. Prior to that, they did not have a QB on their roster.

I trade DE Floyd Gardner to the Broncos for their 2nd and 5th round picks.

The golden era of my DE is gone. Gardner was injured, so we’ll move to Cox now. Last year showed me something.

I trade DT Sammie Kennedy to the Raiders for their 3rd this year and 4th next.

Neil Lee get s a 2 year extension because he is still playing at a high level.

I cut OG Bruce Holliday. I love him, and Ihope he ends up somewhere nice and gest some mor eplaying time, but my team comes first. Unfortunately, as of right now, Bruce will not be making the HOF, but I have to move on.

I offer OT Will Poston his first professional contract for three years.

C Les Morris does not want to sign a new contract, and he lost a step with the injury. I’ma trade him now while I can get something for him.

I accept the offered trade for Morris.

Coverage for players gone -

C Archie Enbysk is pretty green but pretty solid
DT Herb Bradley looks ready to start
DE Harvey Cox 0s really good
OG Kyle Steussie is solid.

We now have 14 picks and 39 players under contract.

What to do with Phil Jefferson?

Let’s wait until post-draft

We draft in slot #26 in each round

No FA I want to chase.

I reject another 1/3 offer for Grady High post FA just before the draft.

The 3035 Amateur NFL Draft

Our pick arrives. I don’t need a starter anywhere except for CB, so I can basically BAP my pick unless a great CB is on the board.

Let’s take a look around.

WR Earl Hicks - Great player
CB Arnold Dorrough - Solid. Starter written on him and very developed already
LB Gene Wright - There’s always a LB here to seduce me
OT Clay Hazelton - Nice. Not a position of need though
TE Korey Walker - Solid.

I take the corner.

2/20 arrives. Ding Dong. Boone is a great WR and still on the board. No doubt I take him.

Draft Recap:

1/26 - CB Arnold Dorrough, Gannon
2/20 - WR Wendell Boone, Louisiana State
2/26 - OG Damon Peters, Houston
2/31 - OT Bobby Hueffed, Toledo
2/36 - QB Rod Parker, Maryland
3/9 - LB Alan Smith, Pittsburgh
3/26 - DT Ray Henderson, Stephen F. Austin
4/18 - DE OJ Rackers, Rutgers
4/24 - RB Tyrus Banks, Fresno State
4/26 - C Josh Barrientos, Oregon State
5/26 - TE Bryan Boyer, Maryland
5/31 - CB Dusty Snyder, Wyoming - KR/PR
6/26 - DE Dexter Batts, Maryland
7/26 - S Cris Froehlich, Purdue - KR/PR

I sign all of my rookies and I am sitting at 53 players exactly.

I sign UFA:

OT Albert Linton, Kansas State
OG Tommie Alston, Kentucky

I am taking my DT to camp before making a Phil Jefferson decision.

I can sign Bruce Holliday for a cheap contract.

Here comes camp!

We sell 32,200 tickets.

I reject three trade offers for DE Cox, QB High and OT George.

I trade DT phil Jefferson to the Cowboys for their 2nd and 4th picks this year

I sign UFA DT Daryl Sherman, Notre Dame

I release the WR I got in a trade earlier as a sideline.

WR Earl Hicks, whom I was looking at, boomed and is now virtually perfect.

Let’s look at the rooks

WR Wendell Boone, 38/83
QB Rod Parker, 18/76
OT Bobby Hueffed, 21/74
DT Ray Henderson, 18/65
RB Tyrus Banks, 29/63
TE Brian Boyer, 30/59
CB Arnold Dorrough, 58/58
DE OJ Rackers, 8/56
LB Alan Smith, 55/55
C Josh Barrientos, 15/52
DE Dexter Batts, 2/47
S Cris Froehlich, 30/30
CB Dusty Snyder, 22/22
OG Damon Peters, 10/21 - BUST!!!

Not a great class. I think it has some growth potential in CB Dorrough and LB Smith, plus Boone is hot and Henderson will start.

I cut Peters.

And others think?

4th best QB
2nd best RB
2nd best FB
13th best TE
THE best WR
15th best C
15th best OG
6th best OT
2nd best P
4th best K
19th best DE
5th worst DT
2nd best LB
THE best CB
5th best S

Hmmmm

No excuses this year for that kind of a crappy season. Everyone better play with a chip on their shoulder.

We sprayed a lot of players into FA like we often do. Three of the top 10 players in FA are former players of mine after we failed to sign their RFA contracts. This is normal and expected and one of the reasons I don’t mind signing talent here, because I am giving it up too. Examples this year include CB Dudzik and TE Rani.

We go 4-0 in the preseason! DE OJ Rackers is out for a couple of months with a sprained neck.

No major streaks, just a 3 away game streak followed by a 3 game at home.

Week 1 - We begin the season with a win 37-27 against the Panthers. Jake Duffy is Game MVP and NFL Offensive Player of the Week with 38 rushes, 276 yards and 3 scores. That’s my team! High hit backup WR Hicks for a score and tossed 310 yards himself. Jim Ackerman notched two picks. Just one sack on the day though (backup rookie LB Alan Scott, in his first game as a pro). Enbysk, in his first game as the full time starter got 6 KRB and Lofton grabbed 4.

Week 2 - 42-20 vs. the Bengals in their house. Game MVP is Duffy with 34 for 163 and 1. High hit Waddle, Boone and Carman for scores. Prescott with a pick. Curtin and Smith each with 1.5 sacks. OT George rocked 5 KRB and OT Will Poston added 4.

Week 3 - 34-16 over the hapless Steelers. S Jon Prescott is Defensive Player of the Week and MVP with THREE picks. Snyder added a pick. DE Cox had 3 sacks. Curtin had 3.5 sacks. C Enbysk added 5 KRB. Duffy grabbed 2 scores, 127 yards on 27 carries. High hit Duffy and Waddle for scores.

Three game away streak begins today. Then our BYE, then three games at home. Next week is our test, at Jacksonville.

So far, we are playing lights out different than last year.

Week 4 - We crush the Jags 38-7. Duffy Game MVP with 153 yards, 28 carries, 1 score. High rushed for a score. High hit Carman once and Boone twice for scores. Cox with 2 sacks. Fletcher with a pick. Enbysk with 4 KRB.

Ackerman is doubtful with a dislocated shoulder. I bench him. Matthews will be starting for him. He’s adequate.

Week 5 - We destroy the Ravens 34-14. NFL Offensive Player of the Week and Game MVP is Duffy rocking 22 rushes, 127 yards, 1 score, 51 yards receiving, 2 rec TD. High also hit Carman for a score. Prescott and Martinez with picks. OG Steussie with 6 KRB.

WR Pete Waddle is out for a few months with a broken wrist. His abilities have dropped. I IR him. I sign FA Rich Tatum as a patch. Boone and Doucette will be my starters for the rest of the season. I also reduce our 3 WR sets % and Increase our 2 WR set.

Week 6 - We travel to a lose to the undefeated Cyberhawks 24-38. Duffy held to 52 and 1. High hits Boone and Duffy for scores. No picks, just one sack. Losing on the road to an undefeated team is no negative.

Week 7 - BYE

Week 8 - We establish dominance over the Jags 38-6. Duffy is Game MVP with 24 carries, 96 yards, and 4 scores. Fletcher with a pick. OIT Poston rocked 5 KRB. Brant Carman had a 3 yard fum rec TD.

Week 9 - We host and lose to the Ravens 17-16. Duffy held to 63 yards. High hits Boone 7 times for 145 yards and a score. Matthews has a pick.

Ackerman is back next week.

Week 10 - We lose 24-27 against the Seahawks, quizzically losing two of three at home. Duffy held to 81 yards and a score. High hits Doucette and Duffy for scores. Pick by Ackerman. 1,5 sacks by Batts.

C Enbysk is questionable, LB Martinez is questionable, DE Curtin is doubtful and DE Cox is doubtful. They really got to us.

I deactivate Cox. I keep the other three in and hope.

Week 11 - We travel to Tennessee and defeat the Titans 24-10. Duffy is Game MVP with 31, 133; 43 yards receiving and a score. High also hit Tatum and Hicks. No picks. Just one sacks (Zuchowski).

Get this. Curtin played and is upgraded to questionable. Cox was benched and stayed doubtful. I love Curtin.

Week 12 - We slap-hammer the Colts 38-3. CB Jim Ackerman is Defensive Player of the Week with TWO picks returned for scores, 24 yards and 64 yards. He had FOUR picks on the day. He also led the team in tackles with 7. Damn Jim! Prescott and Dorrough also added picks. Bradley had 2 sacks. OG Lee made 4 KRB.

Jim Ackerman put in the single most dominating performance I have ever seen a CB do in one game. He’s obviously back from his injury!

Week 13 - We travel to the 8-3 Miami Dolphins and we lose 21-31. Duffy held to 74 yards. Doucette grabbed 7 High balls for 124 yards and 2 scores. Hicks with a score too. Prescott adds a pick and Matthews has two.

We are 8-4 and are 2nd in the AFC Central behind 8-3-1 Steelers. Whom we are traveling to this week…

Week 14 - Away in Pittsburgh we lose 10-9 in a score reminiscent of last year. Long has a pick.

Week 15 - High is knocked out when we play the Titans but we manage to win 29-20. Tito Schulz is Game MVP with 5 of 6 FG. Backup QB Kadela was 9 of 16, 189, 2:0. He hit Boone and Hicks. Boone had 104 yards on 5 catches. Prescott and Dorrough have picks. Just one sack.

LB Zuchowski is doubtful and will rest. Alan Smith will start for him. I like Smith a lot, he’s almost completely developed already as a rookie, so I have no concerns sliding to him.

Week 16 - We Annihilate the Rams on the road 34-0. Ouchie. Ricky Doucette is Game MVP with 9 grabs, 167 yards, 1 score. Hicks and Carman also make TD grabs. Duffy is 25, 80, and 1. Ackerman, Matthews, LB Sherman with picks. DE OJ Rackers, subbing for DE Cox, with 2.5 sacks. Poston posted 4 KRB.

DE Cox is back this week.

We have a WC spot sewn up. If we win, and Pittsburgh loses to the 7-8 Ravens, we win the AFC Central.

Week 17 - We crush the Bengals 34-9, but Pittsburgh also wins, so we have a WC berth. High is Game MVP with 1 TD and 1 2 point conversion. Boone grabbed the conversion and Carman the TD pass. Duffy rushed for a score before getting dinged and substituted. Buntain replaced him and got us a score too. Prescott notched a pick.

Denver beat Oakland 34-24.

Well, an interesting year stat-wise. Nice to see Prescott finally with some love. Ackerman and Lee are adding to their resumes and Duffy has re-established himself. Nice to see the newer players - Poston, getting a nod.

Where is Brant Carman or some others? I thought Carman would have gotten a nod. Let me check the TEs. Carman was much worse than the op guy, but about on the same level with the 2nd team (had one more TD but 80 fewer yards than the All Pro guy)

Still, nice to see actual players getting nods.

47 sacks, 3rd most, 21 allowed, fewest by 6 sacks. - AWESOME STATS

+23 TO, led league easily

Nice stats except rush defense. WTF was up with that?

Individual Stats:

QB Grady High, 58.2%, 3394 yards, 28:8 ratio, 98.7 rating

He doesn’t throw for mammoth yards, and he doesn’t have the best completion % ever, but the guy just hits Tds and misses picks, giving him the best QB rating in the league this year among qualifiers, 3rd most Tds, 9th most yards, 2nd fewest picks among qualifiers. Very nice.

RB Jake Duffy, 379 carries, 1644 yards, 16 TD, 4.3ypc

The top RB, Rondell Pride of Philadelphia had 2178 yards and 22 TD. That’s who Duffy lost out too in the awards.

WR Wendell Boone, 11 starts, 55, 943, 7 - came very close to a 1000 season
WR Ricky Doucette, 51, 848, 4
RB Jake Duffy, 40, 509, 6
TE Brant Carman, 41, 447, 5
WR Brian Hicks, 34, 441, 5

Looks like Pete Waddle may be dead weight

K Tito Schultz, 29 of 36, long of 43
P Russell Kelly, 27 of 9- inside the 20 (low), 43.5 average - great - 4th best in league.

DE Bert Curtain, 8.5 sacks, 3 blocks, 6 hurries
DE Harvey Cox, 10 starts, 6 sacks, 2 and 3
DT Herb Bradley, 4 sacks, 1 and 2, 4 fumrec - tied for league most

My team gets a lot of sacks even though I don’t have a lights out DE making a bunch.

Curtin is STILL leading my team in sacks.

S Jon Prescott, 9 picks, 3 sacks, 85 solo tackles, 8 pasdef
CB Jim Ackerman, 8 picks, 2 TD, 5 pasdef - in 12 starts!
S Derek Long, 1 pick, 13 pasdef
CB Arnold Dorrough, 2 picks, 10 pasdef

9 picks is second most in league and 8 tied for 4th. Good job guys! 13 pasdef is third most in the league.

Even my rookie, Dorrough, had a good year with 10 pasdef.

C Archie Enbysk, 33 KRB, 4 sacks allowed
OG Neil Lee, 24 KRB, 1 sack allowed
OT Will Poston, 32 KRB, 2 sacks allowed
OT Chris George, 21 KRB, 5 sacks allowed
OG Kyle Steussie, 20 and 4 allowed

All had solid years. Good group! Especially since Steussie, Enbysk and George still have growth ahead of them.

Team Awards:

Offensive Player of the Year: RB Jake Duffy - He’s back and mean. RAR!

Defensive Player of the Year: S Jon Prescott - Defensive Player of the Year, 9 picks, definitely made a statement. His first All Pro ever, but he’s averaged 6 picks a year until this year ,and this is the second time he’s gone to 9, so this was foreseeable. Good job Jon!

Special Teams Player of the Year: K Tito Shultz, when we had a down year, Tito was still a rock, thanks Tito!

Rookie of the Year: WR Wendell Boone. I had several that contributed, such as DT Henderson, DE Rackers, CB Arnold Dorrough, and so forth. However, Boone started just 10 games, and led the tema in receiving and Tds. He put in a very good performance.

Next year- two difficult decisions - Derek Long and Pete Waddle.

Players Ending Their Contract of Note:

TE Brant Carman - Will be franchised to force him to sign with us.

Records:

As of this year, DE Brock Woods now has the most sacks in a career with 203.

As of this year, QB Ernest Mayes has the most passing TDs in a career with 389

Rondell Pride’s 2116 yards is the most in a single season and only the 2nd 2000+ rushing season in the past 35 years. His 436 rushes is also a season record.

This year, LB Ronald James had 33 tackles in a playoff game, the most ever in a playoff game.

Franchise:

11th most valuable franchise
21st best stadium
THE best roster
19th best support
18th best economy
2nd lowest attendance by #, 14th highest by %

We made 39 million

Franchise that also made money:

Baltimore - made 87 million
Dallas - made 238 mill
Denver - made 3 million
Detroit - made 106 million
Green Bay - made 81 million
Indy - made 10 mill
New Orleans - made 191 mill
Oakland - made 10 mill
Phily - made 305 mill
Pittsburgh - made 73 mill
San Antonio - made 139 mill
San Francisco - made 2 mill
Washington - made 4 mill

So, in terms of profit, 14 of 36 teams made money. We, at just 39 million, made more than all but 8 teams in the league despite being in WV.

Hall of Fame:

7 players added, two of mine included:

RB Grady Pender - 96%, UCLA, 18 honors, 134 TD, 13784 yards. 12 years of play

RB Ralph Barrett - 89%, Mississippi, 7 honors, 111 TD, 14143 yards, 15 years

These are the first two players from Richmond to make it to the HOF. They will not be the last. Two more players from Richmond have made the Richmond HOF and they will be making the NFL HOF soon I think.

Retirees:

QB Ernest Mayes - Not mine, but he’s gone
DE Brock Woods - Same as above.

These will both easily make the HOF and be among the last players to make the HOF to spend a significant period of time on my teams that I did not draft.

Super Bowl Trivia Time

Did you know?

It’s 3036. The last time we won a Super Bowl was 3030.

Did you know?

The Steelers have won two consecutive Bowls, giving us major competition in our own division.

Did you know?

Despite my successes, I have only won 9 Super Bowls since 2002 when I took over my first team, the Lone Stars.

Did you know?

After leaving previous teams, my teams are 2-1 in winning a Super Bowl the following year. Which team did not? Albuquerque.

Did you know?

I won two Super Bowls in 2023 and 2024 with the then Browns. The team that won directly before and after was also a former team of mine. 2022 and 2025 went to the Richmond Rattlesnakes.

Did you know?

The most successful team in the 34 years of me being a GM that I did not have a hand in is New Orleans, with 5 Super Bowl Victories.

Did you know?

In the past ten years, a AFC Central division team has won the Super Bowl 5 times? (Pitt x2, Us x2, Tennessee in 2031).

Did you know?

Four of the five remaining teams to win a Super Bowl are in the NFC Central (Tampa x2, GB, Minnesota).

That means 9 out of the last 10 Super Bowls have been won by a team in one of the Central divisions. Interesting. The only other team to notch a Super Bowl title is the Oakland Raiders.

Did you know?

Despite setting up a longer and more powerful dynasty at Albuquerque than at Richmond and San Antonio, it has the fewest post-Abe Super Bowl victories of the three teams with just one, years after we left in 2021?

Our coach is out from his contract.

There is a mega-coach available. It will cost us about 28 million annually to sign him. I always wonder. Is our head coach keeping us down? If I actually paid big time for a mega-coach, would it cause a player-explosion? It would cause our $$ to spiral out of control, but I always wonder.

Just for fun, for a year or two, I sign him. I want to see what I’ve been avoiding.

Head Coach
Horace Keith
52 years old, 28 mill/year, 5 year contract

Excellent: Off Play Call, Young Talent
Very Good: Discipline, Def Play Call, Injury Avoid, DB, D Line, O Line, WR, QB
Good: Motivation, K, WR
Fair: LB

Now that’s a brilliant coach. Let’s just see what happens.

I increase ticket prices a bit..

Should I franchise Brant Carman? He’s beginning to lose a step.

Last year, he was targeted 70 times and caught it 41. That’s about his usual. 5 TD is more than he’s had since 2030. He had more yards receiving than he’s had since 2033. His average is dropping but still a respectable 10.9 per catch.

Yeah, I’ll franchise him for now.

3036 NFL Free Agency

40 players under contract, 35 million in cap room.

Grady High has entered the final year of his contract.

Time to pony up the big bucks.

I give him a professional contract for three years. His salary jumps to 25 mill annually.

I’m going to have to do that next year with Duffy too.

I add two years to Jim Ackerman’s contract, three to P Russell Kelly, one to Tito Shulz.

FB Tracy Kramer is not looking for a reup. Sigh. Neither is C Archie Enbysk.

Players in the final year of their contract of import:

WR Ricky Doucette
DE Bert Curtin
LB Joseph Martinez
S Derek Long
LB Alonzo Scott
DE Harvey Cox
FB Tracy Kramer
C Archie Enbysk

The easiest decision in there is Alonzo Scott who’s never done anything of any import at all.

I trade Scott to the Colts for their 2/19 pick this year and 3rd rounder next.

I can start Alan Smith who I like a lot from this year.

Now I really like Martinez. He doesn’t want much more, so I resign him for two more years. It’s so hard to find a good LB.

DE Cox is really good so I sign him to his first professional contract for three years. We’ll see what he can do with that.

I trade Derek Long to the Lone Stars for their 4/15 draft pick. He has never been that good. He’s gotten worse. Time to cut the fat.

I trade WR Pete Waddle and our 4/28 to the 49ers for their 1/12 pick. HE lost a step and we don’t need him anyway.

I sign TE Brant Carman to a three year deal.

Decisions left - Curtin, Doucette

I extend Curtin by a year. Gotta do it, gotta keep him. My favorite player of all time.

Curtin has never missed a game because of injury. He has started all 192 games since he was drafted.

I’ll keep Doucette undecided until post-draft.

Looks like OG Bruce Holliday decided to call it a day because he’s not in the FA pool.

Starters needs:

S, WR perhaps, LB perhaps

I laugh at the trade offers I get post FA.
