It's funny, given all that John Navarre has accomplished, that his entire career will be judged on the result of tomorrow's game.

How many players is that true of, though? I think it comes down to the fact that often this game determines whether or not a season has been "successful" for both teams.

I still felt the twinge of ultimate disappointment watching ESPN Classic the other night as Michigan completed their undefeated reg. season from '97.

All rivalries aside, here's hoping for a tremendous game tomorrow. The 100th anniversary of the best rivalry in sports deserves to have a great game with a memorable finish. Whoever wins tomorrow will truly be the Big Ten champion, and that's the way it should be.

That being said I hope Michigan crushes the Buckeyes

Jim, my fellow Wolverin, the reason his entire career will be judged on the result of tomorrow's game is simple. The knock on Navarre (and it's justly deserved, I think) is that he can't come through in the "big game." Almost every, tough big game he's played in, he hasn't performed. (One could make the argument that the team hasn't perfomed either. You can hardly blame Navarre for the two losses this year. Those mainly were the fault of two weeks of the worst punt coverage/protection in NCAA football history). He wins tomorrow, he shakes that label and goes down as a good QB.

Let's do it, boys.

GO BLUE!!!

Is Michigan still doing that messed-up punt formation with 3 upbacks and the punter running to the sideline? If they are, they deserve to lose and I will be rooting against them. That formation was/is an affront to the game of football. Otherwise I will be cheering for them because I despise Ohio State.

No. For some reason they decided to abandon that formation... Maybe because it... WAS AN AFFRONT TO FOOTBALL AND WAS A BLACK HOLE (SEE: IT SUCKED SO HARD THAT NOT EVEN LIGHT COULD ESCAPE IT).

You had every right to be all

Therefore, you may commence with your hearty cheering and well placed despising.

We appreciate the support (and the despising).

I've actually seen that formation work for Clemson... the rushers were so certain they could get a block that they end up plowing into the kicker... through the blockers.

Plus, that formation is designed mostly to avoid a punt return, it seems.

But yes, it's an affront.

What? Are you hoping Lloyd Carr is checking FOFC for some last minute game day tips??

If he is, then you've got more problems than punt formations.

Maybe Lloyd can get y'all to completely dominate the 1st half but only be up by 2 points, like last year. Whatever works for him.

FYI, Toledo ran a wacky punt formation like that last weekend against Northern Illinois; it seemed to work ok but I'm not sure what the reasoning was for them.

If history is any indication, tomorrow is gonna be one helluva game. I just hope Ohio State will be able to hang close and pull it out on the end (I know how good michigan is this year). Chris Perry is the best RB OSU has faced this year. IF they shut him down, they can truly call themselves the #1 rushing defense in the land (shutting down=less than like 50-70 yards).

GO BUCKS! Here's a to a close game tomorrow!

I think it was the Oregon game that I saw them run it in. Only reason I remember so well is because at the time I thought "Disgrace to the sport of football, they deserve to have this blow up in their faces and lose" and then they had at least 1 punt returned for a TD next punt.

Whatever the reasoning, it sucked ass (just like Michigan's punt coverage.)

Chris Perry isn't that good. He hasn't averaged more than 4.3 ypc against a decent team this year. He has gotten at least 85 yards every game except Oregon (11-26) but that's because they just keep giving him the ball. Just because you give it to a RB 51 times doesn't mean he's great. Tough, durable, but not great.

Looking at OSU's schedule, McClendon and Davis are both better backs, although I think both were injured/banged-up in those games. I'd say Oklahoma's D is better, but OSU is certainly up there.

Davis didn't even play against OSU. They did give up 125 to Whitefish Bay's Booker Stanley though.

But aren't they all?

My prediction:

OSU 17
UM 16

Nugent knocks through a 51-yarder at the horn to win it and send hundreds of aged Buckeye fans to early graves.

Sorry Mr English teacher. I remember a few years ago when Michigan lost to a game at Michigan State because of what Lloyd said was the MSU timekeeper not keeping correct time. That allowed MSU to have another play and that is when Duckett scored and won. Carr bitched and complained about that.

Well lets fast forward to last year where Michigan got the benefit of some calls against Penn State. And weeks eariler Joe had complained about a few times. We Carr made the comment this year that there is nothing wrong with the officials and he doesnt want to sound like a (for lack of better term) baby like another fellow coach.

So it was ok when he was getting the benefit of these calls but when it goes against his team he felt it was ok to bitch and complain.

lol.

Santiono Holmes was in trouble with the law monday, playing saturday.

Hmm.

And by the way, memo to Chris Gamble, you're not Charles Woodson, and you're vastly overrated.

You've already been burned, may as well try and stop while you're distantly behind.

They let Holmes play? So much for gametime decision, the announcers saw he wasn't in on the first play and said he was suspended and didn't say anything more. Guess assaulting someone means you don't get to play the first drive. Complete lack of class by Tressell for not suspending him.

I don't wanna' be put down as a hypocrit because I realize Marlin Jackson was also charged with assault but he sat out two games, and the lack of game experience along with injuries lowered his stock (altho' this should mean a 4th year at Michigan), but at least he were disciplined.

May as well let him start instead of benching him a drive, thats nothing. It was just a horrid decesion in my opinion.

Assault? Since when? Two players tried to break up a fight between two groups of girls. They were charged with Disorderly Conduct several days later - probably because of media scrutiny.

Congrats to UM and good luck in the Rose Bowl.

OSU finally got handled. But they'll still be going to a BCS bowl, so it doesn't hurt as bad as it would have last year.

And, if it makes you feel better Kodos, yes it does suck. I'll make sure to note when the Dolphins lose in the playoffs again so I can come back to ram it up your behind.

Are you serious? I've had to suffer through David Shula... AND Bruce Coslet.... AND John Cooper.

Coop was/is the most like Dave Wannstedt.

He hadn't a clue what to do when the chips were down, so he had to hope that the players did. That worked out oh so well.

I think Wannstedt is inept, and I hate him for being a Jimmy Johnson offspring and for helping run Dan Marino out of Miami (don't bother arguing this point - a lot of people didn't see it the way I did, but I will never change my mind on it).

Look at it this way: There is no way they will make it to the Super Bowl, much less win it. Hell, they probably will miss the playoffs entirely. So why not aim for getting rid of Wanny instead? Then I can go back to rooting for them without reservation.

Oh, and those orange unis were horrid. HORRID!
