FOF Journeymen
I find that there is a lot of player movement in FOF 2004. Specifically, the backup players play for as many teams as they have years. That wouldn't be so bad, but it seems as if some starters start for 3 different teams in 3 years. That seems a little odd to me, and not "NFL-like".
Another oddity is one of my old backup QBs, Grady Wynn, who is a 10 year veteran and has played for 7 different teams in his career. He was the starter for Detroit at the beginning of 2014, but was released, and then re-signed by Detroit, and then with two games under his belt, released again. Buffalo picked him up (not in a trade), due to their starting QB going down with a groin injury. Grady Wynn started the last two games for them. Now why would he re-sign with Detroit when he was released? The only possibility would be he was released before Training Camp, and then re-signed after that. But why would Detroit release him again? They're $32 million under the cap ($146.4 million), and the starter now is worse. (My scout is AVG at QBs). Has anyone else seen this? Also, the whole journeymen thing. There is a lot of player movement. |

Well, alot of teams release players and resign them, that in and of itself is not a big deal. Now the issue with a team DURING the year having 32 million just laying around in cap room... that is an issue. Even puts Bidwell to shame Also, you mentioned what your scout is in QB's, but what is Detroit's scout rated? He could be poor or fair and not even realize that he is cutting a better QB than the starter. What is thier record? Maybe they don't care, because they are doing OK. (Doubtful I know)

I think the AI teams are a bit too agressive in their cuts. They basically just cut all their backups every year and then sign a new crop of backups. The next year they all do the same thing, creating this class of journeymen. I like the agressive AI, but IMO it just needs to be toned down a little bit when it comes to end of season cuts. Too many good players are being released for no good reason.

Indeed, Detroit's Scout is Poor in QBs, but why cut a Quarterback that you've started the first two games, and is rated your best? (The other two don't have any injuries). As a side note, the Lions eventually ended up 12-4, losing the Superbowl to the Browns, and the Bills ended up going 11-5, losing to the Steelers in the Wildcard round. Very strange, and Grady Wynn is now a UFA once again, looking for his 8th NFL team. Speaking of which, which player has played for the most teams in his career that you've seen? |

Reference from the (new) names thread.
Hayzeus was quite the journeyman. By my count that is 11 teams in 13 years. Last edited by korme : 01-01-2004 at 10:56 PM. |

I've noticed this too, and would like to see the AI teams signing more of their backups to multi-year contracts. QBs especially are noticeable for travelling around the league, serving out one year contracts with team after team, and very rarely staying on for more than one year. The AI generally, as was mentioned above, has a "cut first and ask questions later approach" that basically has them grabbing whoevers available without trying to hang on to their existing quality backups.
