Christiane Amanpour

Jesus, she stands there doing her pre-written scrub and there is major gunfire rattling off behind her and she is unphased. Keeps right on truckin'. Doesnt even flinch.

What the hell is this? All the times I see the pix pls k thx line written and the first time it's ever followed it's Christiane?

One of the few threads I've seen here where there really hasn't been a false statement in the thread. She is without a doubt one of the best field reporters in the world. I'd actually rank her number 1. She has the courage to go into war zones and will not lose composure on the air, ever.

She is also incredibly negative. Even when things appear to everyon else to be looking up in certain places she's been, she will never hesitate to bring up the bad. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. This lady covers wars afterall, and there isn't much good in a war. Even a war that is won or a war that you support has so many horrible stories, that it can be difficult to see the good.

All in all, she's one of the few examples of the good that journalists can do and the service they can provide.

You need reporters to tell you the bad stuff just as much as you need reporters that tell you the good. Choosing to have one over the other is a bad idea. You should want all of the information.

I would rank Geraldo Rivera a distant second on my field reporters list.
Gotta agree though that she is THE best field reporter of our times.

Although she's generally pretty negative on the air, she spoke at my graduation, and was able to more than adequately muster the requisite naive and hopeful tone you get with that kind of thing. So she has a softer side, apparently CNN doesn't pay her for it though.

I agree with this. . . it's just that if she has a flaw, it's that she doesn't report the "good" enough. She at times will not give you all the information, because she is only focused on the bad.
