Also, I've corrected my pstats.dat file, so this recruiting season should have more funky names, but next year's class should be normally distributed.

Is this a file of your own doing or is this Icy's latest?

Based off of Icy's 1.3, but with corrected name frequencies, and Columbus State substituted for Temple.

OK, I wasn't sure if 1.4 had corrected distributions.

I think it does. I just didn't want to redo the work I did to put Columbus State in.

2007 BEGIN SEASON
OFFENSE PHILOSOPHY
QB Eric Molwatt is 57/57 and looking half-decent, but his receivers suck. RB Malcolm Hatchette looks pretty decent, and we have some decent run blockers on the line and at FB. I decide to go with Smashmouth for my offense.
DEFENSE PHILOSOPHY
The AI is recommending 4-2-5, and it seems to make sense. My strength is in the secondary. Let's get our best eleven on the field.

2007 FIRST HALF REPORT

WEEK ONE (at Maryland, +18)
We fall 35-13 to the Terps, but we see a little promise. Mowatt is 14 for 23 for 195 yards with an INT. No, not great, but better than what we've seen in the past two seasons out of our QB's.

WEEK TWO (at #10 UGA, +25)

Weekly injury report

RB Mo Fox is struggling with an injury to his Forearm (Strained Muscle). He is able to play this weekend, but I don't think he would be anywhere close to 100%. The smart move would be to let him sit and check again next week.

DE Enoch Hipple is trying to play through an injury to his Foot (Torn Cartilage). He seems willing to give it a go, but we would recommend giving him another week to recover.

CB Riall Hartings is really hampered by an injury to his Ankle (Nerve Injury). He could play as an absolute last resort, but we would strongly advise against it.
The Dawgs swamp us 48-16 in this one, although RB Hatchette turns in a fine performance, rushing for 141 yards. The fragile Mowatt (End: 9, Dur: 45, so you too-many-injury people don't freak out ) gets hurt and is questionable. He was pretty ineffective before his injury.

WEEK THREE (OFF)

WEEK FOUR (vs. Navy, +19)

Weekly injury report

QB Erric Mowatt is currently battling an injury to his Hamstring (Torn). He is getting better and able to play, but you might want to sit him out one more week.

RB Mo Fox is struggling with an injury to his Forearm (Strained Muscle). He is able to play this weekend, but I don't think he would be anywhere close to 100%. The smart move would be to let him sit and check again next week.

DE Enoch Hipple is recovering from an injury to his Foot (Torn Cartilage). He seems to be progressing well and we recommend playing him this week.

CB Riall Hartings is saddled with an injury to his Ankle (Nerve Injury). His performance would certainly suffer if you played him so we recommend letting have a little more time to get back closer to 100%.

SS Damien McCardell is out a couple months with his Knee (Torn PCL). We will do what we can to get him back into action as soon as possible, but we can't make any promises at this point.

SS Malcolm Calico is struggling with an injury to his Forearm (Torn Tendon). He is able to play this weekend, but I don't think he would be anywhere close to 100%. The smart move would be to let him sit and check again next week.

Hatchette continues to run well: 25 carries for 110 yards, but the passing game stinks: Mowatt was 10 for 22 for 90 yards.

WEEK FIVE (at #2 Notre Dame, +25)

Man, we had a chance for a minor upset in this one, but the Vandals scored a TD with 1:50 to play for a 28-24 win. Mowatt threw 2 TD's, then aggravated his injury. On the day, between Mowatt and Hasty, we threw 5 INT's.

3 Out, 2 Doubtful, 1 Questionable, 7 Probable. Not bad at all.

Ugh. We get our hats handed to us by Army, 27-0.

I will not accept a firing.

I saved it right before continuing. Now that we know that the firing option works, I'm going to remove that option. The CPU did offer me the job at Houston, which had gone 3-19 the last two years, so that's nice, but I want to stick with Columbus State.

Finally, some positive news! We just landed the best recruiting class of my short career! I think I'm finally getting the hang of recruiting in this game (after 30ish classes, counting testing). It is the #94 class in the country. In the Top 100!!! Woohoo!!!! Hey, it's progress. Here they are:

POSNAMEHIGH SCHOOLNATPOSCURFUTCOMMENTS
QBTim NickersonLaney (Augusta)1112834256Actually has some solid potential as a passer, but mediocre W.E.and Int.
RBMarlon SmithBenjamin (North Palm Beach, FL)20691794351Rated 54 in running right now. Could be decent.
RBJon PalmerRockwood (TN)20551763952Has some work to do to earn playing time.
FBHerb HolmanSequoyah (Canton)685334764Looks like a solid runner and run blocker. Could play soon.
WRChris HarrisonHamilton (Chandler, AZ)743864465Rated 63 in route running right now. Could make our QB's better.
WRRon FoleyGreenville (CA)11301844559Could be a pretty solid 2nd-fiddler to Harrison one day.
CMike ShiversWare County2524993052Has a long way to go before he plays, even for us.
OGMel WilliamsFleming County (KY)26161633149Probably just roster filler.
OTDashon BuchananBlackwell (OK)22781113651Probably won't amount to much more than a backup. Non-scholly.
OTCorey JamesHokes Bluff (AL)1666773855Very strong work ethic and some pretty good skill potential.
DEOlin MosebarNorth Harrison (Ramsey, IN)23741164047Not expecting much out of him.
DTJason JordanCarver (Columbus)25591253352Could be pretty solid in a couple of years, esp. at pass rushing.
ILBMike LovePike County925554459Perfect first name for an MLB, and has a 99 Work Ethic.
OLBLee BauerSatsuma (AL)21921564051Roster filler most likely.
CBDarren ShulerCook County17622004158Rated 57 in coverage right now. Could be very nice in the secondary.
CBBill EdmundsHart County13901524461With some work, could be a solid press corner.
FSJonathan SullivanLeftwich (Magazine, AR)21071173157Has a long way to go before he plays, even for us.
SSJack BoumanCalhoun Falls (SC)22491133251Not much hope for him to play all that well.
PFrank JohnsonModel (Rome)2661333869Could be quite solid.

2008 BEGIN SEASON
OFFENSE
Jarius Hasty looks like my best option at QB going into the season, other than his horrid Dur/End (38/15). Ugh. After him, there are indications that true freshman Tim Nickerson might be next in line, too. The feature back should be Malcolm Hatchette, who rushed for 1,101 yards last year, and is looking quite solid this year. He's not a speed back, but has good acceleration and running ability. True freshman Herb Holman should split time at fullback with Darryl Jauron. We're not that impressive-looking at WR, but another true freshman, Chris Harrison, should play a good bit as WR3. The offensive line is nothing to write home about, although Jr. OT Brenden Leo is a returning two-year starter who had a solid 2007. We'll once again run a smash-mouth offense.
DEFENSE
Defensively, once again the secondary is our best feature. We'll probably struggle at the point of attack, though. We're better at ILB than the D-Line, so we go with a 3-4 philosophy.

2008 FIRST HALF

WEEK ONE (Vs. Maryland, +27)
We open by getting trounced. The Terps destroy us 50-6. The only bright spot is Hatchette and his 22 carries for 96 yards.

WEEK TWO (at UVA, +24)
WOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! We pull off the big ol' upset! We knock their #1 QB out of the game on the 7th play of the game, and Jarius Hasty, despite throwing 4 INT's, also manages to connect on several big plays. On the day, he is 16 for 29 for 328 yards with 2 TD's and 4 INT's. We win 34-20 despite Hatchette being held to 76 yards on 27 carries for the day.

WEEK THREE: OFF

WEEK FOUR (at 1-2 Arkansas St., +4)
Dang. We lose a barnburner on the road, 31-30, but more signs of life can be seen: Hatchette rushes for 127 yards and a TD, and backup Randall Birden chips in 67 yards on 12 carries as well. Hasty has a very solid game, too: 13 for 22 for 181 yards with 3 TD's and an INT. A missed extra point in the 1st quarter provides the point differential. {Sigh}

WEEK FIVE (vs. Florida International, -4)
In our fourth season, I think this is the first time that we are actually favored to win a game, and we take care of business, ensuring our winningest season so far. Hasty had an off day: 8 for 22, but he did have 172 yards and 2 TD's on the day. Hatchett and Birden combined for 34 carries and 149 yards to lead the way offensively.

WEEK SIX (vs. Ultimate Evil, +25)
Big loss at we're outmanned. ND 56, Good Guys 23.

WEEK SEVEN: OFF

WEEK EIGHT (at 3-4 Navy, +28)
Another spanking. 40-16 Middies.

WEEK NINE (at 2-6 Army, +17)
Yeah, baby! We pull off another minor upset, spurred on by an early fumble return for a TD. We go on to win 20-17. Hasty continues to hit the big plays. He's only 8 for 24 for the day, but for 213 yards. Hatchette runs for 114, and Birden chips in 52 of his own.

WEEK TEN: OFF

WEEK ELEVEN (at 4-4 MTSU, +3)
Ugh. Hoping to run our record to .500, we get knocked back down to earth, to the tune of 41-10.

WEEK TWELVE: OFF

WEEK THIRTEEN (at 2-7 Alabama, +19)
We manage to avoid embarrassment in Tuscaloosa., falling 23-10 to the Tide. Hatchette rushes for 95 yares

WEEK FOURTEEN (vs. 4-5 Buffalo, -12)
Our smashmouth attack does just that in the first game in which we're double digit favorites. Hatchette goes out of the game with an injury that won't keep him sidelined next week, and Birden comes in and rushes for 163 yards and a TD.

WEEK FIFTEEN (at 4-6 Louisiana-Monroe, +2)
We lose the finale 27-17, but nothing can erase the happiness of going 4-7 after 1-34 the last three seasons.

Still got a long way to go, but it sure felt good to get a few wins for a change.

Yeah. I've basically been using the 1.02 patch (beta versions) since the 2007 season. I updated to release version early this morning, but really not much that would impact this team changed since the first beta (Post 50). The injury fix was implemented in the very first beta. Note that I finished this regular season without a single player being "Out," and of course I can't afford max medical spending, either.

Well, the only thing left that concerns me is the sophomore players declaring for the draft as reported over at the BBCF forums.

Yeah, I saw that. In testing, I thought it was fine, since I saw "JR." I (and I'm sure others, too) didn't take into account that those guys had already progressed a year.

We pull in another not-bottom-of-the-barrell class, this time ranked #97.

Probably not a big issue using a lower tier school.

2009 BEGIN SEASON
OFFENSE
It is time for a full-blown QB controversy, boys and girls. Red-shirt freshman Tim Nickerson is showing improved ratings to the point that he may supplant starter Jarius Hasty. I'll let them go 50/50 for the first few weeks and see if one distinguishes himself. Our four best players are RB Hatchett, FB Holman, TE Gillette, and T Leo. Sounds like the perfect recipe for some smashmouth football.

DEFENSE
We'll run the 3-4 once again. The D-line looks like th best part of this unit. NT Zek Day's 72 point of attack rating is particularly intriguing.

2009 FIRST HALF
WEEK ONE (at 0-0 Maryland, +25)

The Terps can't quite cover, but they win convincingly, 37-13. Hasty outplays Nickerson in this one, although neither does much.

WEEK TWO (vs. 0-1 UVA, +26)

The Cavs repay us for last year's upset in a thorough manner. UVA 48, Good Guys Nary.

WEEK THREE (vs. 0-2 Florida Atlantic, +3)

Ugh. You could almost feel the program take a step backward this week as we lose to a fellow bottom feeder by a 37-16 score. Nickerson outplays Hasty by a wide margin and earns the starting spot for now.

WEEK FOUR (vs. 2-1 Navy, +16)
We fall 24-10 again. Nickerson isn't playing too badly, though. Hatchette gets hurt and is Doubtful.

WEEK FIVE (at 0-4 MTSU, +5)

We shake off the doldrums and CRUSH MTSU, 37-3. Nickerson is 10 for 18 for 174 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT.

WEEK SIX: OFF

WEEK SEVEN (at 2-3 Louisiana-Monroe, +7)

With Birden still stubbing for Hatchette, we pick up a nice road win, 16-13. Birden carries for 117 yards on the day, and Nickerson is 9 for 17.

Expect different reporting henceforth. I think I'll just do beginning and end, key recruits, and no game-by-game recap. We'll see how it goes from here. A lot of the week-to-week reporting I was doing was for my own benefit in testing. Now that I'm no longer testing, I want to PLAY.

Weak recruiting class in 2010. Only a couple of two-star players. No three stars.

As mentioned, no one to write home about in freshman class. Sticking with Smash-Mouth and 3-4. Not expecting much more than 2-4 wins in this, our first season with 100% players recruited by me. Still no one has distinguished himself at QB. I'll go with a Hasty/Nickerson rotation this year until/unless one of them grabs the job.

We went 3-9 on the year, and never really did find our QB solution. The brightest spot on the team for next year appears to be rising Senior RB DeLawrence Witczak, despite his low scouted ratings. I'm getting the impression that there can be LARGE scout error in this game.

Three players worth mentioning sign in the pre-2011 recruit class: SS Ron Green (44/60), FS Hunter Jackson (41/59), and RB Bob Newhouse (45/58). All three are in the Top 75 at their position. Overall, the class is #107.

This time it is a 4-8 finish, and I'm starting to feel like I've hit a glass ceiling here. Hmmm..

DECISION TIME:

I get my first non-F grade, a D-, with an A in Prestige gain. As a result, I also get my first job offer: Tulane. Funny, I had been thinking, "You know, I'm not sure how fun this is, having to play all of those quality teams every single year as an Indy." The C-USA schedule seems like it would be much easier, and I could also schedule some crappy out-of-conference teams and maybe get a 7-5ish season and a Bowl bid eventually. With the schedule that CSU plays, I don't see getting them to that level for decades. Bottom line: this has been challenging, but maybe too much challenge and not enough fun. Tulane is sounding like a more manageable challenge for my first career. I'm doing yearly saves, so I could always go back and pick up CSU later, but I'm strongly considering jumping ship to the Greenwave. I don't really have time to play much more right now anyway, so I will chew on this one for the rest of the day.

Which is what I wanted to hear, actually. It should take quite some time to make any real strides with a team like CSU. Go for Tulane, you've earned the job, imo.

So I spent a couple of hours working in the yard this afternoon, and I ended up turning off my mp3 player and spending at least a half an hour trying to decide whether to continue with Columbus State, or take over Tulane. I'm still torn on this. I'm too tired to play any tonight, but I'm sure I'll be at it very early in the morning. I'd welcome any comments or thoughts on which direction to take. I see that Todd has already weighed in. Others?

WEEK FOUR (at 1-2 Arkansas St., +4)

Dang. We lose a barnburner on the road, 31-30, but more signs of life can be seen: Hatchette rushes for 127 yards and a TD, and backup Randall Birden chips in 67 yards on 12 carries as well. Hasty has a very solid game, too: 13 for 22 for 181 yards with 3 TD's and an INT. A missed extra point in the 1st quarter provides the point differential. {Sigh}

But the important thing is, you covered.

I say move on. I'm having a tough go at it with Kentucky so i can imagine getting any real talent to attend Colubus State is going to be next to impossible. At least playing in a more popular conference gives you a better shot at post season play and a true opportunity to build a program.

I'd say stay. You've put in the work, and its good to see that you can't just jump up quickly. Programs take decades to evolve into top of the line ones - give Colombus State the time, and see how far you can take them.

Now, this is not to say that I won't jump ship at some point in the near future, but not now.

I hire a new O-Coordinator, who had gone 13-10 at K-State. He's a smash-mouth guy with no ratings less than "Below Average," and is particularly good at the offensive line.

My new D-Coordinator is a first-year 4-3 guy who is pretty much average across the board (which is good for us).

Tulane hopes you place them on the schedule so they can embarrass you.

We pull in what looks to be a decent (for us) recruiting class, highlighted by:
  • P Oscar Wililams (51/72)--At least when we punt, we'll punt well.
  • FB Dick Dyer (36/58)--Scouts really like his potential. He was the #58 FB in the land.
  • C Tom Dunn (32/57)--#61 C in the country has a strong work ethic. He and Dyer should provide some strength in the middle.
  • CB Ed Taylor (43/57)--Comes all the way from Towson, MD with good instincts, intelligence adn work ethic.
  • WR Jeff Pricer (41/55)--Rated 51 in route running and 55 in hands right now, with a strong work ethic. Should play soon.
In all, we land 6 guys in teh Top 100 in their position, and the #98 recruit class in the land.

Good call. I'll try to schedule them for the next few seasons.

So far, I'm really glad that I stayed. I think I'm learning a few things about the game now, and I may have found my QB for the next few years in Marcus Davis, and all-Indy WR Hunter Keaton returns next year, too. Here are the numbers. We went 4-8.

This is our second straight Top 100 finish. We were 90 CPU last year, and this year, we're #91.
