I'm not using them yet (too much in FOF2 and Madden 2003 currently) but I love the project and check the updates very frequently.
One that misses and that I'd love to see is the : 1994 Roster file (I want that '94 49er team badly ;-) )

I think once the few draft files are done, 3ric will work on the editor for the roster files, and it will happen.

good to see people are enjoying these files. I should have 89 done maybe today. Look for 83 by the end of the week. Just depends on how long my 20 page lab report takes

Thanks again for all your hard work guys. I love playing with the historic files. You guys are finishing these fast! There will be an entire thirty year history in no time at all at this pace. :-)

If I could make one suggestion for the initial file, don't you guys think you need to give more love to Drew Pearson, Mel Renfro and Hollywood Henderson in the ratings? :-p

Drew Pearson sadly is a player who has slipped through the cracks, there are 5 or 6 that i have found that are overlap players. Ones in the original file who are in a later draft file.
Drew Pearson, Joe Devlin are a couple. Hopefully we will get all these files done soon. It will be alot of fun, maybe it will even have a use for the OPU players to give a real flavour to the history of their league.

Senator you have mail.

Didn't notice you had a 1973 Pearson too Nilidor. Or do you only have the 1970 version? No worries, I can change it myself if there are only a few personnel changes. Thanks for adding some of the vets that would have already retired in 1970. I've noticed a lot of them are available in free agency in 1971 but it's nice to have some of the greats in my sim. Do you guys have any plans to create files prior to 1970 after you finish up to 2003?

Also, is there anyway to add real stats to the player bios? If there is, if you guys need a volunteer, I can help edit the 1970 file.

BTW, is it possible to edit the coach files? Is there anyway we could put Tom Landry, George Allen, Chuck Noll, Don Shula, etc. in the game with appropriate coach ratings?

The credit for the 70 file belongs to uglytuco. 3ric edited it and made the 71 file. I have made 72-79 81-82 88-89 and Dfast has made 80, 90, 95, 98 i think. If you want to edit the 70 file go for it, i am sure some players are missing, some may be in the file that should not be (players that started their careers after 1970) Lyle Alzado was another one.

i think the main weakness with the historic files is there's no real sense of history. Sure the players are there and that in itself is really cool, but can you imagine if one could start at any year from(insert year here) with all the players on the correct teams and go from there. It'd be sort of like having the Lahman database for FOF.
Sure that'd be a ton of work but i think it would increase the playability of FOF tremendously.

Just an idea i thought i'd toss out there

McSweeny,

This will happen when work on the roster files begins.

The historical files are super. Thanks ! I love starting a full draft in 1970 with Namath, Otis Taylor and Gale Sayers. The AI gravitates to OLTs and DEs, and I can usually fill these in by drafting in the first few years. A key I've found is to take guys with only a few years of experience (4 or 5 is ideal), as they outlive the orignals on the other teams, and the starting set from 1970 is far more talented than the draft pool.

Cool Historic Files

These historic files are the best add on I have seen for a game in quite awhile. I wish something like this could be done for Eastside Hockey! I am now in 1979 with the Seattle Seahawks and aftergoing 5-43 in the first three years we are now 73-71!! Lots of fun and highly recommended!!!

CFG,

DFast is working out a couple of kinks with the 80 file so i would make sure you have a save before you import it. Just a couple of the names are wrong. If you wanted to invest the effort you could import the draft a manually change the names. I would imagine there would be between 20-45 that need to be changed. I know he is working on it so you could wait as well.

I've just managed to modify the draft file editor to correctly read a *.fdt file (roster file to start a career, the 1970 file for example), now I will start writing functions for altering the values as well.

If I have one of these historical files, what happens when the first season is over? Do fictional players enter the draft, or is there a way to import draft classes as well? I have never been clear on this, and I have not looked at these roster yet.

You start a career with the 70 file than you download the following draft files which contain a majority of players that entered the draft that year. So you import those files the same way you would a tcy file.

Right before you start Free Agency each year there is a pretty big button at the top of the screen to "Import a Draft" You click that, and select the appropriate year's draft file that you downloaded from Senator’s web site.

I've attached an updated 1970.fdt roster file, (I used Jim's editor) since I was reminded of the errors in it when I viewed it with my editor.

Changes are:

edited (mostly birth dates):
paul robinson, cin
speedy thomas, cin
ron carpenter, ravens
doug crusan, miami
horace jones, oakland

deleted (they appear in later draft files):
lawrence mccutcheon
joe federspiel
billy kilmer
j.d. hill
mike siani

added:
nick buoniconti
willie ellison

Had to get my mind off the horror of the day. After a long walk with the wife, I decided to update the historic league site.

1989 added
1970 new update roster file added
added pages to handle "how to" questions
updated the new message board

83 file is sent, I have pictures of Marino, Elway, O'Brien, Eason and Kelly if you want me to post them somewhere I can. Could raise a new 83 debate?

Senator, there was a question on the 1970 roster file back on the "other" message board, you might want to check it. I hope I cleared up the confusion.

Yes, send me the pictures, I will post them. You could put them on the board if you wanted as well.

The long awaited 83 file. I am making sure my team tanks in 82.

Just sent in the pic's of Marino, Elway, O'Brien, Eason, Kelly and Blackledge.

3ric, what is coming for the next update for the editor? Mass copy? Ability to change the state for the hometowns? When is the expected release for it?

Mass copy and paste isn't in yet, sorry. I thought I had the solution last week, but it didn't work in the end. I'll resume trying when I finish the current version with support for roster files. Should be done in one week or two.

Changing state for hometowns is done, and will be included.

Okay, the site is updated with the 83 draft file, as well as the QB comparison page with screen shots.

Wow. Elway, Marino and Kelly are awesome. I would have to lean towards Elway if I had the number one pick, but you couldn't go wrong with any of those three...

Shouldn't Elway's loyalty be low? He bailed on the Colts - refused to play for them. Just my 2 cents.

This is sorely tempting me...

Sadly there are some ratings that we have no control over for quarterbacks it is timing, sense rush, read defense, two minute offense plus all of the non red/green bar ratings except for intellegence. All of the aformentioned ratings are randomly generated.

On a side note i simmed ahead a few years just to see how their ratings would turn out and 2 of the 3 were in the high 80's low 90's for ratings while one fell into the 70's
