Do You Subscribe to a College Football Recruiting Site?
Just curious how many others here pay to belong to a site like rivals.com or scout.com.
I never thought that I would pay for information on the web. Then I started reading the WVU messageboard on scout.com and then got a subscription to the premium stuff about two years ago and have been completely hooked to the private messageboard, chat, recruit videos, and premium articles. It has gotten to the point that I am far more interested in recruiting than I am MLB Off Season/Spring Training during this time of year. From what I understand a lot depends on the guys that run each schools' site. Our guy at scout.com seems to be pretty on top of things and gives us tidbits on recruiting, coaching changes, injuries, etc fairly regularly, so I enjoy that. So, am I the only one hooked on this kind of stuff? |

Although I voted for the "neither" option, I really don't think it's as much a matter of all the information being out there online for free somewhere as it is a matter of there being enough free information to satisfy me.

Same here. I'm on the free portion of Rutgers' Rivals site frequently. I don't really have the interest or time to watch videos of a ton of different prospects. And as for the news...anything that breaks on premium will get on to the free board within a day, at the latest. No rush for me. I feel like if I did subscribe, I'd end up way too involved and would find myself falling over every teaser article that came out. |

Today's about the only day it's worth paying for the info, but I suspect that between all of the sports sites and this board, the info will be available almost instanteously anyway, so why bother.

Where do people go for free info besides the free sections of Rivals and Scout? I grew up in the college sports-apathetic Northeast, and had no comprehension of a "signing day" until very recently.

For the past couple years, I've been going to the nfldraftcountdown.com forums in the month or two heading up to the draft. This past season, I spent more time there on the 49ers thread since I get very little news about the team out here, and am not really sure where the "popular" Niners boards are. Anyway, while doing some exploring, I realized there's a whole forum with some decent college talk. Sure a lot of it is rivalry-bickering back and forth, but if you weed through, you'll find some good content. Going a step further, there's a stickied thread for recruiting, and I had noticed a lot of people were posting premium Rivals content (in their own words). So that's a long-winded answer for you...the Recruiting thread in the College Football forum on NFLdraftcountdown.com

I am currently subscribed for both, though only because I missed the deadline to cancel scout and got charged for another year. I think Rivals is quite a bit better than Scout, but it probably varies a bit from school to school.
All things considered, it is probably not worth it, but I do check the premium boards often enough that I will keep my Rivals subscription. I don't really get into the videos and all of the other stuff to really get the most for my money, though. |

Scout could have the best content on the internet, including all premium-level news free, and I still wouldn't use it very often. The website design is horrendous and hurts my eyes.
