101st troopers attacked by our own troops?
If anyone else knows anything more about this please fill me in, but I just heard that the attack on the 101st soldiers Saturday night which they believed was a terrorist attack was actually carried out by soldiers of the 101st. One of the attackers was a soldier, anyway, and is in custody. If anyone knows anything else, please fill me in?
A terrorist attack on our troops is bad enough, but if there are people in our own army who would attack their own troops...or worse, if there are terrorist agents in the army? |

If true the man could very well be shot for treason.

try drudgereport.com
BTW, I've seen nothing in print about this being a "black Muslim" soldier.

It was previously reported on CBS.com that he was a black, muslim soldier. However the entire paragraph that contained that info has been deleted off of their page. Possible they had misinformation or the Marines dont want that info released yet.

Just FTR (and to reassure bosshogg23 that he really saw it), ClearChannel News picked up the same item and was running the black muslim description as of 930 pm (EST).
That doesn't mean it's right or wrong, but that's definitely what was reported by CBS.

Lol thanks I knew I saw it.
Drives me nuts when the media jumps the gun on something though. Whether it was wrong info or shouldnt have been reported makes no difference. Guess that is the info age and all. |

I really hope it wasn't a Muslim who caused this incident. Talk about racial profiling. If that turns out to be the case, he's done a huge disservice to other American Muslims, particularly those in the armed forces. Soldiers are going to have to watch out for Iraqis as well as Muslims in your own forces? Hopefully, they will get past that but I just can't see this being anything but a very bad scene.

FoxNews now reporting that current information is that the suspect in custody is "a Muslim-American".

you know, I hate the description "Muslim-American". It's not like we identify other people as "Christian-American", "Hindu-American", "Buddhist-American" or any other religious identifier.
Anyway, CBS is also reporting on it's website that apparently the soldier had been acting oddly for the past few days. It didn't sound religious (although I guess it could have been). It sounded more like he was not altogether there.

A muslim in the military?
Sounds like another question to add to the admissions process. |

Because in this case being a Muslim-American is sifnificant. The war is against a Muslim country, in a Muslim region. CNN reports the man did have an "Arabic-sounding surname." If there are religious or political motives here. Or if heaven forbid Muslims have enlisted with the desire to do this, that's a scary propsition. If this man has help of contractors (CNN reported there are Kuwaiti workers within the base) that's even scarier. BTW ... this has now become more than a treason case. One of the men has died. It now appears to also be a murder case. |

According to the early CNN and Washington Post reports, the soldier had been sited for insubordination; "resentment" was said to be the motive.

Oh, I'd be willing to wager a fair amount that our armed services are full of spies who've enlisted just to get information about the US. There's no real way of which I am aware to prove this, but I wouldn't be surprised if this were true. Tarkus

doesn't matter. you can say the same thing about Americans posing undercver as soldiers in other armies.
i'm not in the armed forces, but i can most logically assume that extensive background checks are perofrmed on anyone who will get within 10 feet of our closely guarded info. the only thing a spy would learn is how we train our troops, from a soldiers perspective, not as a high-ranking officer with access to juicy high level classified info. how many "Muslim-American" generals do you know of or read about in the media coverage. this is nice for Hollywood, but realistically speaking i don't think it's cause for panic. Also ... ever heard of Wen Ho Lee? He was within inches of our nuclear secrets. |

My dad says that a SGT would be someone with 10-12 years in the military. Its kinda hard to swallow that a career military man would do this, and while I can see him cracking under the pressure, I dont think anyone in their right mind would try to blow up their commanders.

Iraq is not really a 'muslim' country. The government and legal system is secular. The majority of the population are of Muslim faith, but they don't follow religious law like many of their neighbors.

Just to play devil's advocate (cause I like to do that), do you know what happened to Wen Ho Lee? He lives in New Mexico, a free man, because there was never any proof he did anything wrong. But of course, he's Chinese, and you know we can't trust those people.

Sgt is nowhere near that long. E-1(automatic), E-2(3months), E-3(6months), E-4(2 years), E-5 or Sgt(4years) That is considering he went in as an E-1. Many people do not due to education, prior service, Eagle Scouts, etc. I was an E-4 in 3 months, due to educational background.

I know I don't post here very much, but I'd like to ask for everyone's prayers. My cousin was the one soldier who was killed in the grenade attack yesterday. For those who are willing, would you pray for my family during this tough time? Thank you.
