President Thomas J. Whitmore (Bill Pullman) - Independence Day

He flew a fighter plane and saved the world from the Aliens. Enough said.

Yeah, but he ordered an evacuation way too late, causing the deaths of millions of people. Also, like Bush, he waited way too long to get rid of his awful SecDef.

I just watched 'The Contender' again with my wife last night and absolutely love Jeff Bridges as the president there.. I actually liked several of the actors in this movie though.

David Palmer was a revolutionary. Obama was created based off of David Palmer.

Nah, but alien ships over major cities and near major military targets, including the White House, means maybe you should suggest people get away from them. Even he admitted himself that he waited too long. Either way, his SecDef was probably worse than Rumsfeld and should have been gone.

Although, I love that we're debating the actions of a fictional president. It's more fun than the Obama-McCain thread.

President Jordan Lyman (Fredric March) in "Seven Days in May", perhaps the best political thriller of all-time.

"There's been abroad in this land in recent months a whisper that we have somehow lost our greatness, that we do not have the strength to win without war the struggles for liberty throughout the world. This is slander, because our country is strong, strong enough to be a peacemaker. It is proud, proud enough to be patient. The whisperers and the detractors, the violent men are wrong. We will remain strong and proud, peaceful and patient, and we will see a day when on this earth all men will walk out of the long tunnels of tyranny into the bright sunshine of freedom."

Dave Kovic wasn't really President, though. And by all accounts Bill Mitchell was a terrible President. However, it did look like Nance was on his way to being great.

Valid points but if Bush had given that speech it would have erased most of the bad feelings caused by his incompetence as President. One of the great speeches in movie history.

Tempted to go with the ass-kicking president James Marshall but I don't know enough about his economic policies, so I have to go with the guy we know the best, Josiah Bartlet.

I went for Bartlett, but I was pretty curious to see how Matt Santos would do. I think he is the fictional president that has the most in common with Obama.

*wistfully* Ah, those were the days. When Ross Perot came on tv and told us how to balance the budget and people actually cared about it.

Well at one of the debates, he'd say, "Fuck you Jobu. I do it myself" which would score him alot of points. Also, he'd probably have Harris as his VP to pander to the Christians.

Of course- that's why it was the only attack comment in a fake/non-political thread.

Thank you being the voice of reason...without you I'd never know how to think.

And if you go back you will see that I was not the first one to mention any past presidency and his inadequacies. But I see you are one of those with "selective" reading skills.
