Graphical Adventures

Does anybody have suggestions for any recent good graphical adventures?

I liked Myst ok, but wasn't really fond of it. My favorite games in that genre are all a few years old: Spycraft (fav. one of all time), Zork Nemesis, Zork Grand Inquisitor, and the Gabriel Knight games. These are good games that I enjoy playing with my wife, although my aging CPU can barely handle the newer ones.

Thanks in advance.

I started writing up about all of the great adventure games from the past (from LucasArts and Sierra) but you said "recent" so nevermind. I have heard good things about Siberia though, which was basically the only graphical adventure game to have come out the past few years.

I wouldn't mind hearing about older ones I missed too, frankly. Thanks a lot.

Syberia rocks imo, very good adventure game. Only downside is the frigging cell phone conversations. C-H-E-E-S-Y. Great game though, and I hear the sequel is in the works now.

Now for 2-3 years back, you can pick up The Longest Journey which I would rank up there as one of the best adventure games I've EVER played, it's an excellent game...has a few strange puzzles, but most are pretty logical. It's been a while since I played this one, so I don't remember all that much, but I remember I kept playing the sucka for hours and hours, and then played through it again.

I picked up Post Mortem a few weeks back, made by the same folks who did Syberia. I wasn't real impressed, it was pretty tedious, I didn't even finish it.

A sequel to Full Throttle is in the works! As is Sam & Max, both excellent LucasArts Adventures. If you want to go back about 4-5 years, Grim Fandango is THE best Adventure game you can buy, that game is amazing. The characters, story, ambience, it's all the best there is.

For older games: Full Throttle (my favorite), Indiana Jones and the something, Maniac Mansion, the funny pirate ones (I forgot what they were called), and plus, King Quest V, VI and VIII are the best of the all-time, imo.

Funny pirate ones = Monkey Island series btw.

Guybrush rocked.

Actually Monkey Island bugged me pretty often, as I thought some of the puzzles were just insane...maybe I just wasn't thinking right for them, but I thought a lot of them seemed to just revolve around mixing every item in your inventory together until something combined. Great games though.

Did you play Grim Fandango Anr? If not, I highly recommend it, best of the LucasArts bunch by far imo.

Arx Fatalis was a pretty good game, I would say it's definitely not an adventure, it's an RPG with a few puzzles and such. I dont' believe it's the type of game he's after.

Good game though.

Grim Fandango and Sam and Max Hit the Road are tied in my mind for best adventure game. Syberia was extremely good, a notch above The Longest Journey in my opinion, though you can't go wrong with either. (And both are getting sequels.) For all time, Space Quest 1-3 and Monkey Island 1-2 are all excellent. Day of the Tentacle is another great game that seems to get lost in the shuffle.

Grim Fandango bored me to tears. The premise and story were interesting, but the execution was insipid. I guess I don't like pointless puzzle games.

On the other hand, I really enjoyed Spycraft. Unfortunately, it was disappointingly short- I finished it in 1 weekend.
