Iphone->computer
I have a ton of music on my iphone that I bought from itunes, amazon, google play and/or CD's. My HDD in my PC died, and took the music with it. I don't really feel like tracking down the original download for a lot of these things. And I don't feel like ripping a bunch of CDs again. Is there a program that will take the music files off of my phone and move them to a PC? Google searches, as is much the case lately, are pretty garbage.

Since this is an iPhone, can't you just use iTunes to move the music back onto the computer?

I just plug in the USB cable, then browse through Windows Explorer to the phone drive to copy the files back to my computer.
Oh, wait, that's with my Droid X ;-)

Apple does not allow that, AFAIK. You have to go around Apple to do it.

Just noticed that. I have an iPod Touch and I know that if you buy apps directly from the device, it automatically saves these to the computer when you hook it up. Did not realize music didn't work this way. So this is what I found: How to Copy Music from Your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to Your Computer for Free And yeah, YamiPod looks like another good option as mentioned above.

Apple's kind of like that really hot girlfriend, who isn't all the deep but easy to use (), though is super controlling.

This is what I spent so much time bitching about in the iPod thread. It's horrible. I have an Android phone, and I can use it like a thumb drive and freely move music or files wherever I want without restriction.

If you are having troubles, rename your iPhone to 'Titanic'. Then it is guaranteed to sync.

Download Winamp. It allows you to download the music from the iPod with the correct file names.

Thanks for Sharepod, I could get it to work. Not saying that the others don't work with an iPod, but they wouldn't recognize my phone.

I did seem to lose a ton of album covers and ITunes is kind of dicky about tracking these down for albums it didn't import. Is there some utility I can use to easily add these? I realize this isn't crucial but it's somewhat annoying.

Jaikoz audo tagger. Will not only get the album artwork for all your songs but will also fill in all the other data. You have to be a little careful setting it up and I wouldn't have it overwrite old data since it has a tendency to replace actual album covers with compilation ones. But for those that don't have any, it does a great job of finding them.
There is a free version that limits how much you can do but also a paid one that is amazing. |
