I thought they'd save it for the playoffs as well. But this was still a meaningful game at the time, as a win assured them of home field throughout the NL playoffs.

It may have had an effect, too. R. Zimmerman hit a homer in the half inning after the race, followed by a pair of doubles that scored another run.

From what Dan Steinberg wrote on the Post website yesterday, they discussed holding it over into the playoffs but ultimately decided that they didn't want any distraction from more important things.

Teddy's win will have an asterisk, though. It was determined that Melky Cabrera had run far enough to earn the victory, but declared himself ineligible after it was determined his wig had too much powder.
