2018 Draft Class

Coach and Dan will be handling the draft class going forward, this is a thread for dicussion on the process.

I wonder if we could have ways to improve the matching process.

I mean last season the matching between madden generated rookies and the real rookie class on the excell spreadsheet was done after the fact (i.e. after the draft).

This has two major inconvenients because it changes the size and weight of the drafted players.

And as we all know:

1) Size matters

For most position size is a true decision factor in drafting a player.
So it can affect his draft value.

The draft value of a 6.6 TE is not the same as a 6.3 because you cannot teach size.


2) What you see is what you get

When I daft a 290s DE to play as a 3 technique DT I do not want him to become a speed rush DE.
If his size is 6.7, i want him to remain at 6.7.

So size and weight should be the same as spd, acc, agi, bsh, pmv etc


So in order to improve the process I was wondering if we could match players either:

a) Before the fact then there is no surprise because i know what i am drafting

b) or based on profile and draft other rather draft order only. But that would probably not solve the issue for WR or TE.

c) or we could only amend players names and leave size and weight unchanged


What do you guys think ?

Guys were matched up on the spreadsheet for most positions before the draft last time, so you could have checked it to see what you were getting for many of them anyway.

I am in agreement with Mac on this. Size shouldn't be messed with. Don't want to draft a 6'5" not speedy WR to have him then be a 5'11" not speedy receiver. I will help where I can on this as well.

Ok guys so Danny and I had a chat this is our proposal:

• We will import real NFL rookies into the next rookie class
• The import will be based on http://walterfootball.com/draft2018QB.php
• Coffey did an initial work hopefully we can restart from there
• Players weight and size will never be amended: what you draft is what you get except for name, school and skin colour
• Matching between Madden generated rookies and NCAA class will be based on profiles (we will try to get the closest profile in the Madden class)
• An initial matching will be posted during the PO; we may amend slightly post combine results
• Rookies names, school and apparence will be amended asap after the draft
