I know once it hits the ground it would be dead but touching it in the air which is what happened does that change the call?...I mean most blocks hit the ground but it was in the air and caught..

At least, in 2k5, no fumbles are called after the runner is down, because that never happens in the real world.


.....come to think of it, I wouldn't be surprised if a real-world ref screwed this call up, after all. Then again, they do live for these once-in-a-lifetime calls. (And surprisingly, they tend to live afterward, too...)
