IGN on 2K8

A generic game won't sell, and if they're going to convince the NFL that exclusivity(sp?) isn't the way to go, this game needs to sell. I'm not particularly excited about the concept of any non NFL football game, but I know i'll pick this up to support 2k football...

On an unrelated note... I wonder how amazingly sexy this game will look.. Next gen 2k5.. *drools*

If the game doesn't support customization along the lines of the Winning Eleven series then it will be a flop.

I so agree. If we can't edit players names and make our own rosters then the game will be a no buy for me.

I really don't need that much customization. I just want a generic game with all the 2K gameplay, strategy and rules of Pro Football.

That's fine and dandy, but you're in the minority. Unfortunately, a game with few NFL Legends won't appeal much to anyone that isn't a hardcore 2k fan. That's why full customization is a must if 2k wants to steal some sales away from the Madden series. Forget about competing with Madden. That's out of the question until the NFL license is once again available for everyone to utilize.

If they make the game PC with the ability to really customize almost anything, it will take the Madden PC and general gridiron PC community by storm, that's my predicition. Even if the gameplay isn't up to Madden PC's standards, the added ability to customize will be enough, a lot of people on the PC would consider unrestricted control over uniform textures and the likes as their #1 priority.

This is no longer speculation. Look, IGN is the largest online gaming news source available. The author of this news bit, Douglas E. Perry, is IGN's chief editor. This is not something they let slip by. This is news that they are certain of and have information that is in fact from 2K Sports.

I no longer see this as speculation. Based on comments by 2K's marketing department, and the continued feeds by IGN that support the basis of a game, I'd say what this article states is very true.
