I agree w/ all the things you loved about 2k5, and everything you listed would be back w/ the exception of the ESPN presentation...it would just be substitued by 2k Network overlays and such. So if 2k8 had legend analysts instead of Berman for a halftime show, had player interviews like 2k5, Dan and Peter doing commentary, draft preview and recap, an improved Crib, even more customizable TD celebrations, custom soundtracks, blimps, landmarks, etc., you'd still not be interested in it at all since you'd probably have to come to a forum like this and download a roster file that made it like the NFL?

So just to clearify, Official License > Gameplay+superior presentation+all the little touches?

You can also choose facial hair, hair, accessories, etc. Regarding uniform customization, there are a ton of jersey, shorts, and socks templates that you can select and set the colors for them. You can ALSO edit the team's home field I believe, but I don't remember about that. Basically, if the 2K Football game has customization like this, the sky's the limit as far as customization is concerned.

Edit: I forgot, for editing skills and attributes, there's a ton-- a TON of attributes to mess with. You can also edit your player's equipment (which is CRUCIAL in a football game), and you can even edit INDIVIDUAL players' celebrations from a long list of possibilities.
OK, now this sounds cool.

Thanks Meth

Sure thing man. By the way, I'm just throwing this out there-- would anyone else like to put some money together to bet Asianflow that he can't keep the same team's logo as his avatar for a year?

that's not what he's saying. All of those things combined made 2k5 the best game for him... the perfect storm so to speak. But if it's not perfect then it's not the greatest game. It's not saying that the thing taken away is more important or better than the other things they still have control over, it's just that the game is perfect b/c of the combination of it all. there are TONS of people that think like this, btw.

i said it before about the Winning Eleven comparisons but I don't think people get it. America s the main market for a football game and the sales of any football game can not be compared to that of a soccer game in America. the customization of the game is impressive but how many of you loving Winning Eleven know exactly what each of these players on each of these teams look like? How many of you care? People get mad when players have the wrong colored eyes in NFL games. If a soccer game was analyzed as closely as football games are in this regard, WE would still be good but I don't think it'd be held up to such a level.

In actuality the success of WE vs that of a generic NFL type football game is really comparing apples and oranges. The target markets aren't as comparable as many think.

I'm not trying to pick what you said apart, but you just listed several things that are external to having the NFL license.

It seems to me that a fully customizable game would be right down your ally.

Re: IGN on 2K8

I'll say it again: "Legends or custom football game equals a niche market."

Sales of 500,000 copies would be a HUGE success for such a game. No shame in that, as even popular games NEVER get all that much of the TOTAL gaming market.

Capcom sold 1 million copies of Lost Planet, but that's only 10% of the total Xbox 360 userbase (10 million systems sold and counting) and Gears of War has sold to 30% of the 360 gamers.

Are these games failures??? LOL. Hardly. If 2K Sports gets 10% of all the football gamers to buy their game, it will be successful.

To reply to the posts above...

I'm looking for the whole package. Repeat I want a NFL football game and not just a football game.

Having the real players, stadiums, logo's, etc... is a big selling point for me.

Re: IGN on 2K8

I'll pick presentation and solid gameplay over that anyday and twice on Sunday.

Licences never stopped the likes of Konami from creating Pro Evolution Soccer (Winning Eleven) to become the world's best soccer video game series to date; why couldn't 2k8 do the same?

This could easily become a 2k5 vs Madden thread, so I'll leave it at that, but y'all get what I'm saying.
