What the NFL will care about is if your game is using nfl properties in a roundabout way without paying the league.

Also lets stop acting as if 2k had to build this game from scratch. They will have had two years of development time by the time this game is released and there are more than a few elements in this game that are in NFL 2k5. I understand that its a new game but they have focused plenty of man hours toward this project.

What alot of people dont know is that 2k pulled people from their other games to work on animations and other things for APF. APF is one of the main reasons that College Hoops 2k6 was delayed for months because the Thomas' wanted to try and release APF in 2006. This game has been a primary focus of this company and I find it hard to believe that you cant implement simple things like a text editor or a franchise mode when you assign a good part of your staff to work on a game.
If you argue the biggest money gets the NFL license, then EA will keep it. In that case 2K needs to worry about how to build a custom football game.

Interesting details on APF. Hard to debate properly when you have the inside info
on some of this. I always thought APF was the stepchild of games at 2K and
that it was a struggle to get money to develop it, and they could only put together
a small development team. Interesting.

Well, hard to defend 2K when it seems APF has had more time and resources then I
ever imagined.

Re: Can Someone Explain VC's Concern Over the NFL?

I can understand ppl giving 2K slack. but how are so strongly sure 2K used that time not "wasted" on editing features to improve gameplay and not just save some money?
i'm a fan of all 2K sports games, but ppl seem to cut them too much slack, and just assume since they left out this feature and that one and another ... and that's what's going to make the gameplay THAT MUCH BETTER.

i'd still buy the game, but i'll be very annoyed if it had no franchise or customizations.

and another example of why 2K can't be sued...
remember that MMO "city of heroes" or something that got sued by Marvel a year or so back?!?
ppl online were supposed making "heroes" looking like spiderman, Wolvie etc.
Case was dismissed.
if that game can't be sued, i see no way how this game could.

See you just contradicted yourself. They got sued they , however, they won the case. So nobody is saying that EA would win the case, people are saying the act of sueing on EA's part would probably be more headaches than 2K needs at the moment. Lawsuits cost money, sometimes they cost a little , sometimes they cost alot.

according to your theory, EA can sue 2K just cause it's a football game, played by ppl in helmets and weird looking pig skinned balls, even without any cusomization.
sure no way in hell EA will win, but what does big bad EA care?
sure, the good ol US of A is country of sueing each other, even something stupid as cracked sidewalks and *******es spilling hot coffee on their crotch.
