All a mashup is is a blend of different songs. Some people do mashups with the beats of one song and the lyrics of another or they mix music and lyrics together.

The only thing mashed up that I am familiar with is potatoes. Is it basically what us old school cats call mixing?

I got an old school mash up. Good times (chic) and the adventures of flash Gordon soundtrack(Queen) as mashed/mixed by Grand Master Flash.

Theyre more commonly called "blends", which I'm sure you heard of. some people like using less than common terminology. Blends, mixes, mashups pretty much the same thing, I guess where you live at uses a diff slang term.
