Re: The Little Things That Make APF Special...

IMO a football game does not have to have an NFL license or anything. I could care less if I had tony romo or marion the barberian running the rock. APF is phenomianl in all aspects of football. I think it captures the game fully. They missed out though on what makes a football game a real game though. I think they need to have some folks with an imagination doing this game. This game needs a working legacy mode(Franchise) with scouting and fleshed out features. Scouting could be from HS, Semi pro, colleges, streets, and players from around the globe. A league background is easy, look at how blitz the league did it. Come up with a awesome championship trophy, awards named after players of the past, MVP's, ROY and ect... PLayer models and player edit features are needed. Dont really need legends, so save yall's money. Would be better developing a legend yourself by schooling newbs than to already have one. And the only license you need is for nike, addidas, under armor and accesories like that. Man I should be a developer!!!What do yall think?

Re: The Little Things That Make APF Special...

I'm glad to see this thread resurrected. I don't necessarily need legends in the game either, though I like playing with them. What I like even more is the concept of the ability system and the overall gameplay, which, aside from a bad animation here or there, really makes me feel like I'm playing football--a felling I haven't had in a while.

As far as your ideas go, it's a cum si, cum sa kind of thing for me. I think many players enjoy franchise mode and see it as essential to the sports gaming experience. Until this year, I was one of those. However, this game, because of the sheer number of permutations you can put together for your teams, has gotten me much more into the idea of playing single seasons with lots of different teams. Even though I think season mode could use some beefing up, it's still compelling to me, largely because the core gameplay is so good. The trouble with franchise modes is that it's very hard to get essential elements of those modes right--how many times have we heard complaints about trade logic, player development, drafting, free agency? APF has given us a game that does almost all of the basic things, and so many of the little things right that I think they may be able to do those other modes well, but if no one else has really been able to get it right, then perhaps they made a good decision in going this direction.

Just a thought . . .

Good post. The more I play this game, the more I like it. Although I respect everyone’s opinion regarding including a franchise mode, I have not really missed it. I also think that a franchise mode with legends is far more difficult to implement than people will acknowledge. I honestly do not see how they could pull it off, and make it appear to be fair and realistic. I agree with their exclusion of the franchise mode for this year. If they had included a flawed franchise mode, it would have been more detrimental to the game then not including one at all.

I would like to see them improve the gameplay even more. Add more offensive and defensive strategy, and animations. I would also like them to add more abilities and allow each player to accurately represent those abilities. If they improve the gameplay, add more abilities/attributes, add more "little things", and players, I will buy it without a franchise mode again.

This is the only football game that I have played in which I can honestly say that if I get beat online, my opponent simply played a better game than I did. On the other hand, I made some dumb errors, had match-up problems, or had turnovers. The strategy for this game is unrivaled. The balance is almost perfect.

I am currently playing on the PS3, and most of my games online have been pure chess matches (only a few morons). I also love how some games your team will play great, and then bad the next game. It causes you to change your gameplan, if you want to win. Obviously we all would like to win every game that we play, but this game offers a subtle sense of satisfaction in a loss (if you are not a sore loser).

I was wondering if anyone noticed that the PS3 version seems to play a better game of football than the 360? It seems like the defense plays much better on the PS3. Although the game does run smoother on the 360.

LOL I said the same exact thing on the 2ksports board and got flamed and told a million and one ways they could do franchise. I personally would rather have them skip it this year too and work on perfecting gameplay and AI. Then put out the ultimate franchise ,using the gameplay they spent a year perfecting, when they get the licence back. But not many people agree with me.
