Well on a 17" LCD monitor, when you take 2-3" off of the top and bottom, that makes your gameplay screen only about 8-10" tall or so. It makes it so you have to sit w/in 4 feet or so to really play it well. I enjoy being able to sit 8-10 feet away.

I hear ya. I accidently flipped the cable switch to "TV" and got the full screen non high def picture and it was pretty bad. When I first bought the 360 at launch the switch was set to "TV" but the Madden picture looked good anyway. You might be better off just hooking it up to your regular TV (if you have a 19" or above) and setting it to "TV" for the full screen.

the ONLY thing wrong with the graphics in hd is the field . the field looks flat and washed out but notice how it looks 1000 times better in rain games when the field is "WET" which makes the entire game look 1000 times better . the look of the field means the WORLD in a football game . the "wet" look of the field should be the default normal look , if it were i would give the game a 9.8 in graphics over the 9 that i give it now.

Oh, btw, somebody posted earlier but a 1200 sony and a 600 vizio DO look quite different. TRUST me on this one, but if you are first getting into the HD mix the Vizio is more than up for the job. However a real bargain is those Westinghouse sets. More $$$ than vizio but a real good buy nonetheless.

Because the field "textures" and shadows leave a lot to be desired. The field is just a muddy mess that reminds me of PS2 graphics. The player textures and lighting have never been a problem.
