What were NFL2k4 sales on the XBOX and PS2? Compare the the 2 and minus a couple of hundred thousands due to the lack of a NFL license.

I see commercials on ESPN and ESPN2 constantly.

Comparing it to madden sales, NCAA sales, or even pokemon sales, is utterly stupid...as those are powerful franchises. NFL2k5 even failed to reach Madden numbers if I recall correctly. It's no shock that too many people don't rush out to buy a $60 game when it's all the things listed above, combined with horrible marketing, and released the same day as NCAA. However, it is interesting to see how quickly it dropped off from week one.

The hardcore fans bought it, and it will struggle in weekly sales until it falls into bargain bins. The sales on the ps3 were laughable, considering how bare ps3 owners' shelves are. You'd think it would have sold a little better there. The 360 fall lineup won't give it any relief, so it's done being in whatever spotlight it even had. I'll still have fun with it though.

So, if this game sold around 300,000 units would we consider this game a failure?

I'm not an expert, but I do know it's incredibly expensive to market in mass media. There's no guarantee it will result in more sales, so there's risk. Would 2k be better off sinking millions into marketing and have the game still not sell?

IMO, good games sell themselves. One example: I've never seen a commercial for Guitar Hero and that game sells like crazy on all platforms (at a high price point, including the guitar). Word of mouth is more important than any TV spot and the word coming out of most people's mouths on this game, excluding some die-hard fans, is "meh."

I'll tell you what is worse. Foisting that charade upon their fans once a year and how the fans and so called hard core gamers keep putting up with it. Why, because when you buy up all licenses and are the only game in town, and then have the audacity to offer a stripped down version of your prior gen games to the market place, and continue to do it through 3 versions of next gen, is simply pathetic. As opposed to taking a huge risk by making an unlicensed game, and not knowing if it will sell or not.

Seems to me like you are making an easy answer unneccesarily difficult.

Thru it's first two weeks, CH2k7 had sold a mere 35,011 copies on the 360. By the end of March that number was up to 136,456.

Where to you come up with the minus? How do you know what effect the lack of NFL license is?

There are so many factors in this game that it is hard to tell why it is selling like it is. Regardless they need to make a much bigger splash with the next game. It needs ot have all of the bells and whistles so it rates higher and the need to improve the game play because let's face it no football game is perfect and I want the perrfect football game. I mean they have been making 3D football games for quite some time now.
