Another thing would be to make a team to defend that. One thing i am learning as i play more is, sometimes you have to have a different team in order to compete against teams like that.

I made me a team with 3 cornerbacks. I use it just for when guys have 3-4 wide outs.

He's basically running a flood route, which is designed to kill zone coverage. If he's going to spread the defense like that, I would play press man coverage and bring pressure. Imo, IRL and in this game, the best way to beat a spread offense is to play pressure defense.

That wont work if he has a faster QB. You cant bring pressure fast enough if your QB is in a shotgun formation.

You can if you scheme well enough to have a guy running free from the moment the ball is snapped.

I'm also under the belief that pressure has to be brought from time to time. I don't believe in sitting back in coverage every down just letting a guy continuously pick you apart with his passes while lining up in Trey/Trips, Quads and Bunch formations. These spread formations have absolutely no protection from the weak side and it can be exploited with a heavy blitz like "Open Fire 0". Even a gold left tackle-left guard combo -- which the opponent who mike01 mentioned before doesn't even have -- can't stop all 3 guys rushing in from that side. It's just that the heavy blitz has to be audiblized late enough so that he can't motion and send a bump-beater specialist WR like Herman Moore on a fly route to beat the cornerback that's on an island covering him. Or send any of his other WRs on a short route to get an immediate step ahead of the CB that's covering.

Good thread. Another tip is if he keeps calling bunch like that, get a gold corner and isolate the wr on the left. Let him go 1 on 1 , and blanket coverage on the right.

Not to derail the thread, but dooes anyone have success stopping jokers?
Jokers stretch, outside plays kill me. 4-3 zone works at times, maybe try a 4-4?
The biggest problem is when everybody gets blocked. I'll get stops in the backfield, but when everybody gets blocked = death. Idiot corner never plays contain.

Even if you draft more than 2 CBs this would not do any good because your nickle and dime backs are programmed to be your FSs and YOU CANNOT CHANGE IT. That means the best matchup you can hope for is 2 legend CBs on his 2 best WRs and 2 FSs on his #3 and #4 WRs. This is still a pretty big mismatch. That is why I said there is little you can do to stop this. I mentioned it at the 2K page because I played a guy like this too and everyone was like No No No, that's not cheese.

Well it is easy to say you should do this or that on D, but just wait until you play someone with Marino, Rice, a Silver and 2 Bronze WRs who comes out in Shotgun Quads and throws it every play. Rice is already WAY too pumped up in this game as it is. But the other 3 will make it impossible. NOTHING will work short of (inside) D-line Glitching.

I tell you what, let's have no one else respond to this thread telling us how to beat people like this except for people who have actually stopped this on D. I am serious. If you have never played anyone like this, mull over your ideas, but I want to hear from someone who beat a player like this and didn't (inside) D-line glitch. The next person who tells me they have actually beaten someone with 4 legend WRs will be the first one.

I am waiting...

And BTW, blitzing does nothing except take people out of coverage and make what is an easy task for your opponent even easier. I brought blitzes of every number from blitzing 7 and 8 to just 3, mixed up coverages, used double trouble (doubles every WR), used coverage shells to try to disguise, zone blitzes, everything. As he said, out routes are a menace because if you go Cover 2 Hard he will throw a quick corner, Cover 2 Soft and he will throw a post, man and he runs crossing routes, if you blitz he throws quicks slants or corners, if you drop 8 in coverage he runs around until one of his WRs comes open. They limited the number of other positions you could choose in the game and I think they should have limited the number of WRs to 3.
I have beat numerous guys who go 4 wide with a souped up offense. The key is to force him to make the read you want him to. I usually manually control a safety and force guys to throw into heavy coverage because I "jump" on his first read which then forces him to quickly look for another read and make an uninformed decision.

Exactly. You want to beat a spread offense, bring the heat. Sitting back in zone will not work. The route that was diagramed is a flood route. It has one purpose beat zone coverage. Pressure defense is the answer.

Re: THIS is unstoppable (4/5 WR sets)

it sounds like teams like these should be easy to score against, and stopping them once should be all you need to do.......
i would run the nick's and dime packages on D and play some good ol'e smash mouth, ball control, 15 play, clock killing offense....on each of my offensive possesions i would have the play clock run all the way to 0....playing keep away is one of the best strategies when facing a high powered offense.
