Gold & Silver TEs

Quick question: What is your strategy for dealing with upper-tier TEs and the bevy of post and corner routes you see from them?

I currently have a team with Dave Wilcox on it designed just for those types of offenses, and both times I've put this team on the field, Wilcox has been eaten alive in coverage--once by Coates and the other time by Ditka. I could understand if I were asking him to run with Sharpe or even Christensen, but everyone else he should be able to stay with I think. That doesn't seem to be working, though. Do you double with a legend safety, or what?

Thats what Ive always done, as I rarely have a team without a legend or CAP SS. the over/under coverage usually works out good.

Thanks, yamabushi. I really didn't want to have to put a SS out there, as I have a legend at that spot on a few of my other teams, but I may not have a choice. I'm going to try a few more games just to see if I got some bad luck, and if need be I'll put Browner or Butler out there.

Id rather not either, my safetys out there to be a Safety not a cornerback, But with guys like ditka and metzalaars, unless youve got a Gold LB with Speed Burner, Closing Speed, and Coverage you dont have much choice......

Re: Gold & Silver TEs

Doubling with a safety is money in this game... Not just on TEs either.

Well, except when a player's attribute will sort of... Override... Even the double coverage.

But still, it seems like I get a lot of my INTs from when a safety doubles on a WR or TE.

Re: Gold & Silver TEs

gold te's in this game can be killers. i had a online game yesterday where the guy i was playing put Ronnie Lott in man coverage agaist Shannon Sharpe, and lott couldnt keep up with sharpe on the deep routes. Sharpe and Mackey with speedburner are deadly weapons. what i do if someone im playing has a gold te , i'll either double with a safety or play zones. ive found out in practice mode that not even dave wilcox can keep up with the gold te's, the only one who does a decent job of one on one coverage is Derrick Thomas, and i think thats because he has speed burner.

Re: Gold & Silver TEs

I hear ya, urlacher. I'm one of the few who really tries to stick to where and how guys played in real life, so I don't really want to add Thomas just to cover as he never really did that IRL, but I may be forced to. I can understand Wilcox not being able to keep up with Sharpe and Mackey, because they're basically big WRs in terms of speed, but a gold LB with coverage should be able to handle most TEs and regular-speed backs. Oh well. I may have to revise. The good thing is that he can more or less deal with Metzelaars.

I think he may actually be better in zone than man. I may have to try putting him in more zones and see what happens.
