Per my experience, Mel Renfro and Super Agile don't belong in the same sentence. He has slow start up speed and slow top speed. I even tried subbing him in at Safety (he played 2 years as safety), and he did not perform well there either.

I will say that players with Quick Feet on defense are usually going to be good choices regardless of their other attributes. Quick Feet will allow them to accellerate and get into position.

Re: Players with No Special Attributes?

I have to give renfro some love...He has made some of the most spectacular Ints for me on this game....Recently I was playing online and I noticed that even when the Wr gets past him unless it is a perfect throw..He almost always gets to the ball...I'm talkin one handed 360 route jumpin with the best of them!!!He can flat out cover in man coverage!!!He has been money every time that I use him....BTW....L.C. Greenwood IS a beast LI like him a lot too...There does seem to be a "hidden" rating system..For example...Lester Hayes Is a monster in defending the run,so is Carl Banks, and Leroy Butler...Even though it is not listed...Now Banks cant cover like Greg Lloyd but he can hit with the best of them....Another example is Alvin harper...He is Tough over the Middle even though NOT LISTED...Just experiment with players in practice mode and you will notice certain things....

I've wanted to use Greenwood for some time, but haven't found success.

How are you guys scheming him who are having success?

You know how one DE is shaded outside the OT and one is head up? Make Greenwood the DE on the outside shoulder on the backside of the QB (for ball strip). This means you'll need to flip the base formation.

Where Greenwood excels is where he takes that outside shoulder of that OT and uses his speed burner to get to the QB by collapsing the pocket. With his reach tackle he also contains that end very well. For line stunts I like Fan, Base, and Razor when he has that outside shoulder start. When he doesn't (is head up), try the left twist, all in, and mix calls.

Hope that helps. That's how I've gotten production out of him. It looks sweet when it works because it looks so real... this big 6'6'' DE speed rushing against the OT and ripping the QB down.

That makes total sense. I don't flip the formation enough.

I was in practice mode tonight and was working Deacon at LDE. I've had trouble getting production in the pass rush out of that spot until I made a "duh" realization that because of the presence of the TE, I would be much more successful working inside pass rush moves than outside ones, even if the TE didn't stay it.

Low and behold, rips and clubs got me serious pressure, and the occasional outside step with an inside spin worked very well too. That might help anyone who has a guy like Deacon, White, or Jones at that LDE position and wants to make sure they make the impact they should while rushing the passer.

Re: Players with No Special Attributes?

Yeah I've seen some of the quickest pressure come from "All In" and "Pinch" line calls with the DE lined head up on the tackle. This would be your defensive end lined up on the left side of your screen naturally with plays NOT flipped. They seem to trigger moves and run free more often.

When you take an outside shoulder to the offensive tackle, you are most commonly limited to "running the loop". This has its advantages (contain, keep drops die) but it also is fairly easily avoided by a QB watching the line. So, just be aware of what your DE will do when he is taking that outside shoulder. See, Greenwood doesn't use moves very often or very well so that outside shoulder loop speed rush is his wheelhouse, but maybe you want your 2nd level move-heavy DE like Reggie White or Leeroy Selmon to engage the OT immediately and perform a move to get free.

Personally I think it's good to mix things up just like you would in real life to keep OT on their toes, sometimes saving your best line stunt for the most important time in a game, like a 3rd and long. Sometimes I save my "All in" line stunt call until a certain situation where I can nab the QB in the pocket and maybe snag a super quick sack.

Just some food for thought out there. It's amazing all of what is in this game. It never gets old playing defense.

Re: Players with No Special Attributes?

I discoverd Greenwood's strength through a lot of trial and error.

Almost exactly how Casey described it. I would do a lDE swap, line shift, or play flip..i called an outisde line stunt on a play with im lined up next to Randy white, and he just fly right by the OT for the sack, forced fumble, fumble recovery trifecta.

It was very gratifying.
