But the 2K series was the first football gaming series ever that I felt that way about.
Same here, Lott pretty much ends up being on every team I build. Him and Lem Barney.

If O.J. didn't do it, then Greg Oden looks like he's 21.

Rob Moore. No matter what team I make, be it my Dan Marino Air Raid or my ball control offense, he's got a spot. He's a solid possession receiver who works great paired with James Lofton and Marino, but also can be the focal point of a primarily run first offense's passing game.

For me it's a gold linebacker. Usually it's Jack Lambert or Derrick Thomas.

Re: What player can't you build a team without?

I'll go with someone completely off the list:

Leeroy Green (HB)... generic... all 5'8", 180lbs of him.

The guy isn't great at anything, but he has a lot of speed for a RB. I'd say he rivals the speed of all Bronze level RBs in this game and then some, and this is where he can be dangerous. He is fast enough to return Kick Returns consistantly to the 30-40 yard line range, and when charged up and running headlong he can push through and fall forward on yards. He isn't going to break many, if any tackles, but since he's all speed, he'll get the 3-7 yard chunks you need to get the chains moving. His hands aren't the greatest, but in shallow swings & hooks he is more than serviceable.

The best part is that he really helps to spell the starting HB and can serve as a great dual-threat when paired with the starting HB. I know some guys use him exclusively in their "constant Iso" offense, so watch out for him because he can cause some fits for a defense.
