Just picked this up...

I just picked this up to cover my football needs. i have been wanting to play some video game football and this was only $7 bucks at Gamestop. I loved NFL 2K5, but when this released, I didn't give it a fair shot and just shelved it. I am hoping it gives me what I need.

Anything I should know about before I hop on?

Re: Just picked this up...

Get a nice playbook/scheme going. You'll probaly get dominated your first 10 or so games if you go straight to the lobbies either way, but you'll pick some things up.

I would suggest getting a good friends list going with some OSer's here who play the game alot to make sure you avoid jerks in the lobby.

Also some of the threads here are REAL informative. The special thing about this game is that no two players are the same. Leroy Butler has comepletely different skills than Joey Browner who has completely different skills than Eric Turner. Alot of threads discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each player or play.

Re: Just picked this up...

the single biggest thing you can do to enjoy this game is to avoid the lobby players, and always play on legend.

Cheesing players can absolutely ruin the experience of playing this game, and all-pro and lower difficulties have shoddy defensive AI. Stick to those two things and you'll love this game.

Re: Just picked this up...

Yep just like any awesome online experience - it usually involves the community. I haven't played a random lobby game this year (6 months) and with my friends list alone I can get a game whenever I want. Definitely the most fun I've ever had online.

Things to know.. umm well just be ready for defense to seem hard. Momentum is real in this game. It seems easy to me now because of the years I've put in, but I still remember the times where I couldn't manually do anything on D. Just be patient with it and try to be gentler when making cuts. Stay under control of your player. Sprinting around will lead to heavy overpursuit.

I usually just use the defaults for everything. :/

I'd say start on All-Pro and play whatever quarter length you see fit (there's an accelerated clock feature). Once the game feels easy, bump it up to Legend.
